Diego's Living Room Thread...

Chuffed that Arc was genuinely interested!

Ok so I have various questions, and I am incredibly indecisive, so could do with some ideas. This room is currently a blank canvas, I have a few ideas about what I want to do with the room. But GG always surprises me with the level of knowledge out there, so I thought I'd ask what you'd all do.

I've attached an image of the floor plan. It's all open plan, so a fairly large room, which gives many options.

Ideally it is all about the AV setup. Large comfy sofa's.

While I'm at it, I'm looking at getting a new
  • Panasonic VT50 55" plasma
  • earmarked a Denon AVR1912
  • Still looking at speakers, would love some classic looking floorstanding speakers, ideally B&W, but realistically on budget not bloody likely
  • HTPC, prob go with a MacMini
  • a Sonos connect

I'm open to suggestions on all of the above, to you most learned folk.

After your suggestions re: the stone cladded wall, I moved away from the idea, and decided I'd rather just go with a painted feature wall.

Thanks, (Here's hoping I don't break the forum again)

As already mentioned in the old thread

- If you give me some overall dimensions - would help greatly and I could knock out a quick 3D if time allows

- Do you have existing furniture and if so - what does it look like?

- Or - are you buying furniture from scratch

- Do you only have one window? - i.e. the bay window in front?

Diego - I'm unsure if you're married but if not then ya need to set up your room to be welcoming to women. Mirrors on the ceiling is a good choice.

I would also suggest like a whole bachelor pad experience. No toilet seat down, only one mug so she gets the fudge out first thing as there is no coffee for her and maybe some porn and candles n brick

Sounds amazing, but I am married. Still I'll see how many of these things I can squeeze in.

I've attached the dimesions Arc.

Buying furniture from scratch,

It's all open plan and where the dining room is there are pretty big patio doors which allow a lot of light in.

Hope that helps?

Great

How high is your ceiling?

I'd assume it's a wooden floor and masonry walls?

Is that the only window in the space - i.e. bay window? I'm assuming this is some kind of a row-house/semi-detached?

What is the dotted line at the bottom - door, opening, counter top, etc.?

Ceiling is around 2.7m i believe.

Carpet floor at the mo. Could change that

So the dotted line is not an actual divide, it is open. It is actually the dining room space, and there are pretty large patio doors there which allow a lot of light into the living room.

it is a semi detached, yes. Where the door is on the left, near the top, is the garage conversion which will be my office/gaming room.

Ok - cool

Will scratch something together in the next few days

Judging by that image of the stone wall you posted earlier - you enjoy contemporary interiors/furniture?

Big room, where did you move to?

Since buying a flat I love reading up on interior design etc

Where I live, we are converting old horse stables into houses. My Dad's a builder and I help him with it. This is the front room/ kitchen area on the most recent one:

The lights are pretty effective, you can set them to all different moods and you can store millions of colours on them. They are like these ones on ebay, but better quality. They are just like a bit of tape that are hidden so you can stick any where.

What your total budget for the AV gear mate? I can put some considerations together if you like.

That plasma is very good however running costs on a plasma that size are about thrice that of an LED TV, just something to bear in mind.

Don't start decorating until you know where all your cables are going and how many you will need. If wall mounting the plasma then consider there will be a fair amount of connections going to it even if switching through an amp. Again let me know and I can recommend the correct way to go.

Oh and I personally would fit in wall and in ceiling speakers with a very nice sub (B&W PV1), with the screen on the wall you get all the befits of good audio without the clutter of all the gear, run a IR transfer system and you can put all of the electronics away in a cabinet therefore getting a good looking set up without the clutter of different boxes.

I love this brick man, tell me what I can...er I mean you can spend!

You could even go for a projector in that room!

Diego - I like it

Did you buy it or rent? I want somethin like that.

I am intending to move in with a female friend of mine who has split up with her boyfriend. We are good friends and dont fancy her although she is fairly hot. I am sure I will fudge her at some point when I get her sorry ass drunk. I digress - basically looking in East London or like London Bridge etc.

Anyone live with a female friend? did ya fudge?

Shared a house with a couple and their female friend, fudged the friend and the blokes missus regularly. The friend moved out and another bird moved in, yep went there too. Once you all get tinkled its inevitable.
