Me too. Even if your personal preference is that he plays further forward, he still played behind the number 10.
Real were using him as one of the 2 in a 4-2-3-1 until recently. Now he's a little further forward, but still nowhere near a 10.
So what did he say? Looks like he says Eriksen is best there and then likens it to Modric to me.

yep about time we started making players stay can not be so difficult when you sign them you say if you want to move to club that is a stepping stone join someone else, but we are trying to build something here, then if they sign the contract they know the deal.
mate, you have it wrong, Spurs will be a massive attraction because of seeing Carrick/Berbatov/Modric/Bale move on. The issue is more getting a certain amount of time out of them, Eriksen would need to give us at least 1, probably 2 more seasons. If we sold him this summer, we lose, regardless of money. If he has a massive break out season next year and helps deliver something, and Madrid comes with 50M+, we will likely take it again.

A real double edged sword for Spurs fans that due to our club' high profile and "partnership" with Real Madrid we get to see some great talents at WHL but we know that whenever one of them becomes world class they'll probably be off within 12 months
Somehow Spurs need to break through that glass ceiling so we are at least winning the occasional trophy to parade down the High Road and are more regular participants in the CL (and the £30M a year it adds to the coffers), then perhaps some of these players might stick with us for a bit longer than they currently do once they've reached their potential.
Unfortunately, considering our circumstances, this is the way we have to go.
Us being a seen a 'stepping stone' isn't necessarily a terrible thing. Of course we want to be holding onto our best players at all times but sadly that's unrealistic. Bigger boys can offer bigger ambitions, bigger wages and bigger prestige that we just can't compete with. Absolutely no shame in that. What's more important is that we have a reputation of being a bastard to do business with. Clubs may know they can buy our best players, but it's absolutely going to cost them.
Essentially we're running a very effective business model in order to reach a similar status of the big clubs. If Eriksen keeps performing then he will be sold in the future, for a huge fee, that will then again be re-invested in the squad. The same with Carrick, the same with Berbatov, the same with Modric and the same with Bale. Every time we sell a great player, another one replaces them and the cycle continues.

You think Bentaleb, if he becomes top quality, will turn down Barca or PSG or City and the wages and the CL because he came through our youth? Those days are over. We will make more money from it but the lure and the time frame will be no different.

There's no way for us to move past the stepping stone point without ourselves taking massive steps up the pecking order. That happens by buying more quality players, and along the way those will see us as a stepping stone.

I don't think that's the case.
Even if that was the case I think it's more likely to happen as a result of a combination of signing new players and bringing through our own youngsters than trying to do that with just our own youngsters.
And like Lost Mango said, I don't think we'll get the kind of loyalty you seem to want unless we also get the results to match the ambitions of top players in the process.
If that's how we're going to operate then we need to do it right like the Portguese and Spanish/Italian clubs do it and get a proper scouting organization in place that identifies talent in leagues around the world and invests in it. We need the best in the business scouts to do that or else we don't make any progress, we do what we did last summer and buy several duds and get one gem.
