Mods, please merge with another thread if there is one, but thought people would be interested to see the position for CL qualification post Europa league games this week:

Coefficient Watch update:

CL 2017-18 allocations

97.714 Spain
77.178 Germany
73.909 England
70.272 Italy
52.083 France
51.915 Portugal
51.082 Russia

-------------------------------------

CL 2018-19 allocations

76.857 Spain
61.928 Germany
58.915 Italy
58.659 England
41.583 France
41.332 Russia
40.082 Portugal

England have pulled closer to Italy in the 2018-19 allocations (the difference was 0.506 after last Thursday and has now basically halved to 0.256), largely thanks to Spurs defeating Fiorentina, and Liverpool and ManUtd chipping in with wins..

English clubs' contribution to this season's coefficient:

2.375 Emirates Marketing Project
2.250 Chelsea
1.875 Arsenal
1.750 Manchester United
1.500 Tottenham Hotspur
1.375 Liverpool
0.438 West Ham United
0.313 Southampton

Then below we have the summary of how many points the clubs' of each league have gathered in the knock-out round (in brackets, 2pts/w, 1pt/d) and what is added to their coefficient as a result:

2,43 (17) spain
1,86 (13) germany
1,25 (10) england
1,00 (6) italy
0,83 (5) portugal
0,83 (5) france
0.00 (0) russia

WetSpam getting an extra fair-play EL quota was the worst thing for England's coefficient this season.
Still England should finish ahead of Italy in CL 2018-19 allocations, although draw wasn't really kind for them: Lazio got Sparta while England will have either Pool or MU eliminated. And we got the hardest opposition...

I believe this is how the points are calculated
  • One point for advancing to the next round
  • One point for a draw
  • Two points for a win
  • Divide the points by 8 (the number of clubs England fielded in European competitions this year)

West Ham and Southampton completely fudged us over this year. Still, with Roma looking likely to drop out against Real Madrid and Juventus' future hanging in the balance against Bayern, this could be a decent year for our competition with them. Our problem has always been their strong showing in the EL.

After Juve, who will probably go out to Bayern, there's only Lazio left. We'll still have City, one of Manure or Pool, and hopefully us to bring up the coefficient. The only problem is if Leicester make top 4, and specifically 4th, and go out in the qualification round (not at all unlikely), then we'll be in trouble in the 19/20 season.

If Leicester win the league then they will get an automatic qualification spot. Their personal coefficient however will be low so they will likely end up in a group with a couple of big guns which could see them dumped out at the group phase, though if that means dropping to the Europa then it's not too bad.

If Leicester win the league then they will be in Pot 1 of the CL draw regardless of their coefficient.
So are we in danger of not having 3 CL spots next season?
What's the deal with all this?
At the start of each season the number of places in the following season's CL available through the domestic league is known. So England are guaranteed 4 places in next season's CL. If Italian teams had outperformed English teams in Europe this season, we would have been in danger of only having 3 places in the 2017/18 CL; but that now looks unlikely.

With all the Italians now out, we had a real chance to put some daylight between us in the coefficients. City getting PSG and Liverpool getting Dortmund might just have killed that oppurtunity.
Have a feeling unless an English team does something really special next season, we could be down to 3 for the 2018-19 season

So we'll still qualify for CL. ;)

With all Italian teams out of European competition, Emirates Marketing Project & Liverpool's draws this week helped England extend their lead over Italy in this year's battle for UEFA coefficient points. As things currently stand, Italy would need to accumulate 0.702 points more than England next year to take away the 4th Champions League qualifying position from the following season's domestic league.

Isn't the contribution the average of the points gained?

Which would mean West Ham and Southampton have made a negative contribution, producing an average that is lower (1.625) than if they hadn't been present (2.042).

^ That's true, although CL teams gain 4 bonus points simply for being in the CL group stage and 5 more if they reach the knockout stage - so it's quite difficult for any EL team to be at or above the country's average. Spurs are also below the average, but West Ham and Southampton are a long way below.

Imagine City winning CL with Nasri/Clichy/Sagna scoring the winner and Liverpool winning EL with Caulker's winner. It will be fantastic for England's coefficient plus Arsenal may respectively win their favourite 4th place trophy and try some Thursday night football next year. :)
Not likely of course, but defenitely has more possibility to happen than Chelsea's ridiculous run after 1-3 loose to Napoli in 1/8 plus our collapsing in third part of the season which resulted in our 4th place finish and CL miss.
