Carroll to start over Parker at Swansea?

How many players in their teen didn't show world class potential but then went on to become world class?
Second question is, do people really believe that Carroll will be one?

Who is saying that Carroll will be world class? I think that most of us would be happy to see him establish himself as a first team squad player at the moment.

I thought about him, but he came from another country and I stated that caveat elsewhere. I'm pretty sure that in some of the other countries there is definitely world class talent unrecognised playing in lower leagues or struggling to break into a first team.

From the UK, I can't really think of one since the 80's (when scouting was a lot looser than now) and the same applies to foreign youngsters. The only one I can recently think of would be Sheringham, but even then I don't think he was ever truly world class. Henry could be regarded as another but he was exceptionally good at Monaco and the perception he made some massive jump in ability when at Arsenal is a falsehood. He certainly made a massive leap up from flopping at Juventus but he took a backwards step there. Same with Bergtoss at Inter.

Certainly in the Premiership era I can't think of anyone.

What about Lampard?

Like Wenger, I did not see it. What did he do?

a really really really good pass as soon as he came on that split the defence, thought I was watching Xavi as well as keeping the ball very well, I imagine he got a 100% pass completion rate.

I'd be well pleased to see him just develop into a Joe Allen - a tidy little player that helps our brighter lights shine. A Carrick would be a dream, if he can pick up the positional sense. You don't need to be world class to play an important role in a strong squad - just look at United!

Of course, the problem is that we don't really have allthe "first XI" players we want atm, hence the hope placed on our youngsters to come good.

Exactly. Or we could sell him to Liverpool for 15m. 8-[
