Andros Townsend

Andros if you are reading this please stop trying to do those Cruyff turns when you are the last man. It puts us in dangerous positions too many times and cost us a goal against the dippers. You know you don't like to track back so stop it. We want you to Succeed you're one of us. So get your head down, work hard and listen to Poch.

It's not the turn in itself that's the problem, it's the way he does it. Ekotto used to pull off Cruyff turns as more or less the last man rather frequently, but he did so with excellent close control, awareness and he always got himself or his leg in between him and the opponent. Made it extremely difficult to win the ball off him, perfect bit of skill for those situations.

Townsend's turns so far in those situations have been way too open, too easy to read and easy to tackle.

I thought Townsend had a very good game on Thursday. Unfortunately when Lamela came on he made no impact on the match whatsoever. I am glad

This guy is truly terrible isn't he? Like embarrassingly bad. People confident we'll be shipping him out in the summer? Like far too many of our players, has SOME decent attributes, but he simply isn't good enough technically. So pleased when he came off and we look better for it!

He didnt attempt a single shot today. We've finally broken him of the habit. Now we have to build him up into a decent player again.

I'd like to see him given a chance down the left where he'd be able to whip balls in on a more regular basis. I'm sure the likes of Kane and particularly Soldado would thrive on that kind of service. He has the ability to beat his man fairly regularly on the right but once he does he tends to cut back on his left and the chance to whip in an early ball is lost.

He has done better and as someone else said, he has not been shooting stupid shots all the time, he has the tools of a useful player and has been improving unlike Lamela who is not shown signs of improvement and Dembele who has a good game once in a blue moon.

Shall we see if we can employ a left half too?

;)

Not up to standard in the EPL. Cannot see for the life of me how he has improved. I'll concede not skying shots into row z is an improvement, I guess.

Once again he promised a lot but delivered nothing, he shows no sign of becoming the player the hype suggested and I feel he should be moved on in the summer.

I think at this juncture we have a decision to make with regards Townsend. If it were my call, I think I would use him as bait and a makeweight in a possible deal for Schneiderlin. With Lennon being used as a makewight for Mirallas as well and maybe going for Ayew on a free. That to me would improve the first 11 whilst maybe having a net spend in all liklehood of around £15m. He is an infuriating player who has the potential to be decent but I am not sure his thinking and thought processes can be unscrambled or that we can actually wait for them to be unscrambled.

Southampton? The team currently above us? I highly doubt Townsend features in any of their in depth player files...possibly on a post-it note stuck to the fridge "Milk, eggs, tea, that washing detergent the lads love + don't forget to have fudge all to do with Townsend"

They bid 12.5m in the summer for him so I think its safe to say they have more than a passing interest in him.

TBF Jord, our play was well off the pace in the second half. I don't think Townsend added much, but he certainly didn't take much away either.
