***OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Swansea City***

We looked in control in the first half. Swansea offered little, and the rain was a more threatening opponent. Swansea came in to the game more in the second half, chasing the game. They could have equalled when the ball ricocheted off of Vertonghen and hit the woodwork, thankfully the ball stayed out and we went on to win a largely scrappy match played in difficult conditions.

I feel as if we deserved a bit of luck given the reverse fixture. And we had it through Sanchez staying on the pitch, and the offside for the first goal. We could very well have had at least one penalty, but in the end we won without one.

I was very happy to see the return to first team of Lamela, who received the predictable yellow card, the only blight to what I thought was an industrious and well crafted performance. I think he’s showing good signs of progress on his way back in to the team. I was also pleased for Wanyama coming back. He can be a key player for us in the second half of the season, so good to see him get the minutes in.

Overall, job done in not easy conditions. Three points. Another goal for each of Llorente, and Dele, and progress on road to recovery from both Lamela and Wanyama. Very happy with tonight.

Everyone tonight must of been soaked by the time they got inside.

Swansea offered nothing until the pitch started being a factor. We kept at it, and the second goal was huge relief in the end.

If the rain had continued as in the first half, there was a good chance the game may have been abandoned. I see some were moaning about the pitch but considering they play rugby on it and believe me the amount of rain was extreme, it held up well.

Sanchez was a silly boy and then a lucky boy not to get another red.
Ayew should have fallen over Lloris.
Including the first goal...the luck certainly is flowing our way.

We weren't brilliant, but against the current Swansea team you don't need to be.

Just a footnote. Dele done another one of his silly dives down by the corner flag, he just can't help himself. There were more than a few that weren't happy about it. (Spurs fans)

His ankle looked clipped to me, he was being kicked all over the park and probably should have got a penalty too.

Ayew wasn’t touched at all by Hugo
Alli was fouled and that was clear on the replay
Sanchez was lucky but as they said on MOTD the first booking came after acting from Ayew
No mention anywhere really if the attempted leg breaker (words used for Alli foul on DeBruyne) on Alli tonight from Clucas I think....

Nice to start the year with a win. But we really made hard work of it. After scoring the early goal, thought we would go on to win comfortably. Instead, it was really tense until we scored the second goal late in the match. We dominated the match but failed to kill the game off until the late goal. We almost let Swansea steal the points as they hit the post and had other goal scoring chances as well. Fortunately for us, they didn't make use of their chances. It would have been unacceptable if we had fail to win after drawing 0-0 with them at Wembley earlier in the season.

Credit to Llorente and Alli for the goals. It was a good freekick from Eriksen which allowed Llorente to his first ever league goal for us. But Llorente was a bit fortunate as he looked offside for the goal. Llorente also should have done better with at least another goal scoring chance in the first half. Disappointed that Kane didn't score in this match. After scoring hattricks in his last 2 matches, Kane should have started this match to try to create history by becoming the first player to score 3 consecutive hattricks in the league for the first time in 71 years. But Kane did well to create the goal scoring chance for Alli after coming on in the second half. Too bad Kane won't get the assist for Alli's goal as Alli hit it straight to the goalie and needed the rebound to score. Son didn't have much impact but should have scored from his chance in the second half. Lamela also had a quiet match for his standards but he did win us the freekick in a dangerous place which Eriksen should have scored from in the second half. Was really annoyed Eriksen failed to score from yet another freekick. He should have let others like Lamela take the freekick.

Our midfield had a mixed match. Our midfield did well in the first half but was under too much pressure from Swansea in the second half. It was good to see Wanyama returning from his long injury in the second half. Let's hope Wanyama and Dembele will improve our midfield which has been inconsistent this season. Sissoko didn't have much time to make an impact after coming on in the second half.

Well done to our defence for keeping the clean sheet but we rode our luck at times. Sanchez needs to learn to avoid getting unnecessary yellow cards and giving away freekicks in dangerous positions. He was very fortunate not to get send off for 2 yellow cards in the second half. With him already on a yellow card, it was silly of Sanchez for taking too long to clear the ball and then fouling the player after losing the ball. Lloris didn't have much to do but he was too slow to react when Swansea had the one-on-one chance which they failed to score from in the second half. It seems we badly need Alderweireld back to make our defence tight again.

It is always a great feeling when we win. But it would have been more enjoyable if Kane had continued his goal scoring run. We have now won 3 league matches in a row. Let's hope we will now go on a long winning run to stay in the top 4 race.

What the hell, Match of the Day?! I look forward to seeing the bad offside call against Llorente, plus two dodgy non-penalties (one for us, one against)...and nothing. Absolutely nothing. gonad*s.

Or, alternately, he's been playing non-stop for about three years now, and has had to adapt his game thrice in that time - to compete across environments in the Copa Libertadores, then to compete against Dutch forwards in the Eredivisie, and then, literally a year later, to adapt to forwards of all sorts in the Premier League.

And, in the space of the last couple of months or so, he's had to cope without Toby beside him to ease him in, and with having to cover for Trippier all the time - who is increasingly being shown up as a weak link against pacy wingers.

And he's just 21, to boot.

So, no, I don't think he's developing a 'careless streak'. He's being ever-so-slightly less than perfect in his decision making after a period where it was literally unbelievably how easily he took to the Premier League. It happens.
I agree with this. His reckless moves this season can definitely be understood from a young player in his first season. I'm quite certain both Alderweireld and Vertonghen would have looked much worse if playing for us at 21.

However we shouldn't overlook the mistakes Sanchez makes.

I don't think anyone is. However, his mistakes-to-excellence ratio, when placed in context of age and first season in this league, is tremendously positive. The boy's superb!

No mention of that Dutch dude called Mike for them, who could have been sent off for 3/4 bookable offences too. Ah well, we won, it wasn’t pretty but we could easily have lost that only due to the pitch on another day with the same conditions.

Recall Onomah for Dembele

With Sessignon we could potentially agree a future sale of Janssen to Napoli, although he can't move this window

Onamah hasn’t been getting into the Villa side for a few weeks.

No chance he’s ready for us, certainly not cover for Dembele.

I think we will actually get in Barkley from what I’ve seen (granted on Twitter)

Er - he played five games out of six in December before going off injured in the last game of 2017 against Boro. Has 24 appearances so far for Villa all told, that despite being out injured earlier on.

But I agree, he's not coming back this window unless it's to rehabilitate his current injury.
