New England manager = Roy Hodgson

can you list all of the factual and non speculative reasons for dumping Harry?

This is where, IMO, the argument breaks down.

I want Harry gone. I believe he has taken us as far as he can and that a more 'detail orientated' manager could take us further. I should have course give you reasons as to why that is, but none are going to serve as irrefutable facts to support my view are they? For every "13 points thrown away" comment I might make someone else will scream "Champions League QF!!"

All I can say is that Harry has done a great job, that I am grateful for his time but that I think we can do better than he is able to muster. I think he has reached a peak, and so his flaws are glaring.

Lack of tactical 'hard wiring' is one of his biggest failings for me. And it leads into a patchy at best transfer record.

Given that we dont have Chelsea/City/Utd sort of money it is essential we have a terrific transfer strategy - I see little actual strategy in how we perform here. And the lack of tactical work on the field, structure and shape/patterns of movement, has cost us dearly IMO. Even when we enjoy the majority of possession we dont know how to break teams down, we dont have any 'plays' in our locker to get through a defence.

So while you might hold up Harrys achievements as reason to keep him, I say they are passed - but serve as evidence of the massive potential in this team/club. Just because these last few seasons have been better than the 20+ before, are they the best we can hope for?

I don't think he was 'blooding' young players like other teams have done. He was simply using those players to complete fixtures that he didn't want to play, with minimum impact on the first team.

If we didn't have those fixtures then the players would have been out on loan from the start of the year.

Fair point mate...but given the fact they were being blooded for whatever reason, and a few looked useful, why not use them?

There was a chance of WBA stopping Arsenal in their last game. Now there is no chance of that with Rodgson being linked with England. English FA is deliberately victimising us. First they wanted Redknapp when we were in good form, causing us to lose our way. Now, they take away our only chance of finishing in top 3.

Once again I think that is very subjective. Most fans over rate their own players, and I think we often take it to the next level. I don't think our squad is all that.

Full backs = New set all round please. First team and back ups aren't good enough
Centre Halves = Same as the full backs. Sadly King seems to be through. None of our current first team centre backs are good enough and need to be replaced. Dawson could make a good back up, sell the rest.
Wide men = Lennon and Bale. Sell the rest and bring in some more. The back ups aren't good enough.
Central midfield = the one area we are OK both first team and back up
Forwards = Keep VDV, keep Defoe if he is willing to be back up. Get rid of the rest, and don't sign Ade.

And non eof this is Harry's fault after 4 years?

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at the Redknapp threads anymore tbh, the polarisation between the fans is ridiculous.

Interesting - I could hardly agree less with you if I tried....

Full Backs. The first choice two are amongst the best pair in the league. The back up is non existant because Redknapp loaned them out but if Naughton and Corluka (and Smith) are back then along with Danny Rose as well we probably have better back up than most other teams in the league as well - 3 England under 21s and one full international.

Centre Halves. Kaboul is a very good centre half in the making. Is getting better with each season. Dawson would be better back up than pretty much any other team has in the Premiership. Gallas is also still a very good centre half (albeit injured too often). Caulker can come back and be excellent back up. Therefore probably 1 top class centre half is required.

Wide men.

Pienaar and Kranjcar would get first choice starting places for most other teams in the Premiership. The problem though is that neither are like for like. A pacy, tricky true winder is required as backup. Townsend probably should've been retained instead of loaned out to give us a true winger type player

Central midfield. The one area where I agree with you. Modric, Parker, Huddlestone, Sandro, Livermore. No problems there really.

Forwards. Personally I think we should do all we can to sign Ade but also make sure we have a better replacement for him than Saha if he cannot play. Without Ade our whole gameplan doesn't work as with VDV wandering around so much and often ending up alongside or even behind our deepest lying midfielder the centre forward is left isolated. Our centre forward has the hardest job on the pitch. He has to be able to play up top on his own, hold the ball up and run the channels but also be good enough to get involved in our intricate passing game around the penalty area (there aren't too many forwards like that out there - in fact Ade is one of the best in this respect).

Of course some fans overrate players but I think you are also a little guilty of underrating some of our squad.

The following are all excellent players who would get into most of the top teams in this league.
Walker
Kaboul
Ekotto
Lennon
Bale
Modric
Sandro
Parker
VDV
Adebayor

The following are all players that would get into the starting line ups of all but the top 6 or 7 teams and be considered great squad players at even the top level teams:

Corluka
Dawson
Gallas
Pienaar
Kranjcar
Huddlestone
Defoe

Don't let the fact that we have had some misfortune, a loss of confidence and perhaps some injury/burn out issues fool you into thinking that we don't have good players. The one thing that we lack compared to the other top four challengers is that real outstanding centre forward (Rooney, Aguero, Van Persie, Drogba). All of those players have won games for their club singlehandedly this season. We do not have that and the only way we are going to get it is to go out and spend massive money on a transfer fee and wages or to take a gamble and get lucky with an up and coming player.

I'm with you on this mate. We haven't get the 2nd or 3rd best team/squad in te league and we are doing amazingly well considering.

I'm going to draw a line under it all now that redknapp is our manager and Hodgson is England so that I can support the team and our manager. Redknapp has taken us where no other manager has in 50 years

I guess you're joking... but if you're serious, then that puts my Lasagne theory FIRMLY in the shade!!

As it happens (guys'un'gals') I personally think IF Woy goes, the WBA players (who I imagine hold him in VERY high esteem) may well go out on a limb to 'Win it For Woy' in the final game... y'never know!

I do apportion a significant portion of the blame to Harry. For example choosing Walker over Corluka I believe is a massive fudge up. Letting Pienaar go was another, as was letting Crouch go but keeping Pav. Decisions I just didn't understand.

But I also think we are massively hampered in the transfer market by our Chairman.

He has an input

But ultimately, the buck stops with Levy

He'll either pay for players or he won't

Adebayor is a brilliant example

This is the argument that's done the rounds for years. We've had several Managers, several scouts, DoF's all apparently failing to identify transfer targets. They come and go, the problem remains the same.

If our chairman was of the belief that Redknapp would get offered the England job (which almost everyone thought was a safe assumption) then wouldn't it be dangerous to give him a large transfer kitty only for his replacement to have to build his own team in a year/six months? It's not as if Harry has a good record when it comes to profit on players either so it would be even more dangerous.

imv only if Redknapp insists on bringing in older experienced players with little sell on value....Levy hates this policy, considering the delicate nature of our finances its right we dont go too far down this road.

Show Levy a talented player with a potentially higher sell on value, and just like in the past Levy will be in there like a flash trying to get the deal done.

What exactly are your expectations in the transfer market?

Under Levy our transfer system has brought us both Carrick and Berbatov that were excellent and brought big profits, and now Bale, Modric, Lennon, Walker, Sandro, Hudd, Kaboul and so on. You don't rate all of those I take it, but surely you must rate some of them and you must have seen the progress being made in our playings squad and as a result our league results under Levy.

What clubs would you compare us to that do better than us?

thats not entirely true. Levy has backed managers, big time, gone out and paid big fees for the likes of Palacios, Pavlyuchenko, Modric, Gomes, Bent, Bentley, Bale....

even in Jan he would have gone in big for a Remy or a Hazard, younger players with potential and whose value has the chance to increase

This gets repeated, but it is only partially accurate. Levy does like younger players with potential to improve, but not only for the possible sell on value.

1. Younger players can improve into players that are so good we couldn't actually buy them at the moment. Bale and Modric are the best examples. While we might have gotten experienced players that could have offered as much as Bale and Modric in their first season or two those experienced players would never have developed into the players Bale and Modric are now.

2. Younger players have more of their careers ahead of them. For example: Parker and Sandro probably ended up costing us similar amounts, but 3 years from now if we don't sell any of them Sandro still has a lot of years left at the club, making that initial investment worth more to the club in the long run.

Not saying that you're not aware of this or that you disagree, it's just that the sentence "sell on value" gets repeated like that is all there is to Levy and his transfer policy.
