Ross Barkley

“But hearing Ross might be available, well, I have played with and against Ross and bringing him through the door, in itself, would be a huge boost.

“I’m a huge fan. In terms of physical stature, right and left foot and trying to get him off the ball, he’s like Mousa Dembele. If Ross wants to push on to the next level, Mauricio Pochettino is the best manager to do that — just look how many players he has got into the England squad.”

Not my words.... but the words of Danny Rose. Worth more than the thoughts of any poster on here IMO.

Agree - still surprised that some on here wouldn't want him. Then again there's also a number who thought we didn't need any signings this summer

That is true to a point, but there are also as many on here who have suggested we need up to 4 to 5 players. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle ie 2. But we all know fans go to the extremes dont we.

Agree - 2 needed - potentially 3 now Walkers gone.

Get him in! Will give everyone a lift. He will become a better player under Poch, and he's not bad now.

Everton spending big, only lifts their expectation of what he should be worth.

If he is available for £25m as has been reported in the last couple of days then yes, only Mr L would wait another 2 weeks in the hope that the price comes down £5m. Even if that means Chelsea swoop in and get him.

I think what was reported was that we might be willing to go as high as 25, not Everton dropping their asking price.

Well Poch said the other day 3 maybe 4....

Given that he's injured, there is not really much need to rush this one. Will be a Levy special on the 29th. I'm predicting under £20m.

He is back in training according to Koeman

Good that he's training again so could hit the ground running. I do worry that this brinkmanship game will backfire and we'll end the window with just a 3rd choice keeper. As well as potentially buggering our season, it could really test the relationship between Levy and Poch given Poch has said how we need 'a few' additions

Nuts isn't it? Decent English player, available for £25m, would be a great addition to the squad, one of our own players confirmed today his view on how good Barkley is...and we hold out to get him for cheaper. If it wasn't for his 1 year left on his contract, he'd be £40m - £50m. As you say, only Levy would do this....fingers crossed it works

right now i'd take oxlade and barkley and a back up right back

Mate, its just smart business, Everton wanted 50M for a player with one year left on contract who didn't want to play for them.

The price is now down to 30M give or take (depending on sources), he's injured (which will put off other clubs), and if (big unknown) we have spoken to him and he wants to come to play for Poch, holding off for a week or two just to get 5M or so off the price is perfectly understandable. 5M could be a ~20K raise for 5 players in current squad, vs. getting a guy in 3 weeks earlier to appease fans (and yes, I accept it adds some risk).

Of course, I get that! However in any negotiation you have to make a judgement about risk/reward - the 'reward' for us from stringing it out for another week or two might be £5m off as you say; the 'risk' is that Cheatski, who still need someone in a similar position, come in for him and make an offer which we cannot match. Taking that risk is fine if we think its low risk, or if we have alternatives - I have no idea whether Poch has back-ups to Barkley if he went elsewhere

Agreed. We should just buy him now - if it really is "just" £5m between us - and we can agree sensible terms with the player himself. Certainly not worth fannying around for that amount. We will probably get it back in Siggi's sell on fee anyway. Act now ffs.
