Moussa Sissoko

Shame we'll just go and waste whatever we get on someone like Barkley.

Wonder whether people would have a different view on Barkley if, for example, he was foreign and coming from a team of Everton's stature in another major league

A loan is no good. He'll be here till he retires like Bentley was if we don't get shot this window
Chill! Bentley was the exception. Most have been sold at the end of their loans, eg Bentaleb to the club he was originally loaned to for £16m, N'jie to Marseille for £6m, Fazio to Roma £2,7m, Pritchard to Norwich £8m, Stambouli to PSG for over £7m.

All bar Fazio were the right side of 25.

I can see Sissoko putting his feet up for the rest of his career on his huge wages.

Irrespective of whether he is rated or not (not by just about everyone it seems) Sissoko was a member of our squad who got quite a lot of minutes last year. If he leaves for another club this coming season then, rate him or not, he still has to be replaced in our squad. We are already one player down due to losing Walker. If Sissoko goes as well then that is two players we need to bring in just to be level with where we were last year in terms of squad strength (which was probably already two players short of what we needed to challenge on multiple fronts).

I don't disagree on signing someone to replace him and Walker. But most of the times he came on the pitch any random player on our bench would have been likely to make as much of an impact. Except Vorm, arguably.

I don't think we were short on numbers last season. But Sissoko, GKN and Janssen didn't make enough of an impact. I think any one of those 3 we keep around will be kept around with the expectation that he will make more of an impact this season.

Also quite possible to replace someone with a young academy lad. Could see KWP, CCV or Onomah fill one of the openings in the squad you highlight.

I know, but he was nondescript as a player.

Relative to price paid, its difficult to think of many worse signing which we've ever made. Perhaps Sergei Rebrov? Helder Postiga? Those were both big deals in their day...there haven't been many worse

Rebrov scored a wonder goal against West Ham and actually played games.
