Moussa Sissoko

So many ridiculous excuses being made for this guys absolutely horrific performances.

With the injuries mounting I hope in future games dembele is subbed for ccv, with dier going into midfield.

If we put sissoko in the engine room, he is quite capable of causing total chaos - and not for the opposition!

He has had minimal game time since he contributed VERY WELL to our wins vs Burnley and Southampton. Can you at least hold back a little until he has a BLATANT f-kk up?? Not just a mis-hit shot or a mis-controlling a ball?

We are going to need Sissoko in the run-in - whether you like him or not. He does bring strength and pace that could be crucial in some of our upcoming games, especially with some of the injuries we are getting now.

Let's get behind ALL the squad for now and hope for the best.

We will have the summer to cuss the likes of Sissoko if need be - and Poch; whether you like it or not Sissoko was HIS buy

COYS

I agree with all of the points you make but on the final part, I don't know that to be true so much. I think that Sissoko was probably 4th/5th choice on the list for what Poch wanted and my feeling is that he was prepared to accept he wasn't going to get the signing he wanted but in conjunction with Levy it was decided if we don't sign him then with the transfers out, we could be struggling depth wise. So whilst Poch would have said yes ok, I don't think he was particularly bothered whether we did or didn't sign Sissoko specifically and was thinking its a body, an option that should be better than what I have let go. Whether that is the case in reality is open to debate as Sissoko has looked pretty average but he is part of the squad, we need him to play his part if he is required and then hopefully in the summer the situation will be rectified by his sale or he will return with a renewed vigour and appetite to play for the manager.

That all just still sounds like it was ultimately a Poch buy, or if you prefer a buy he gave the green light for.

Remember we were told in the case of Moussa Dembele fro Fulham last season Poch turned him down for coming in the summer seeing as he couldn't join in January.
Seems odd that it can be said he would turn down a very cheap (nearly free) signing but sanctioning a record buy that 'he wasn't that bovvered about.'

You don't just 'get in a body' for a club record fee. We lauded Levy for backing Poch in the summer; we can't now backtrack and say "well he wasn;t really a Poch buy" just because he hasn't as good an impact as would have been hoped.

I'm not suggesting it isn't a Poch buy, what I am saying is that he was evidently further down the list of players that Poch wanted and to that end, he wouldn't have been that disappointed if we hadn't got him. That's my own personal feeling on it from how it played out and how he has been utilised. Whether he is a record signing will have little relevance to the manager. I think that both Poch and Levy realised we were short on numbers and decided mutually to go for it despite him not being a first choice and probably not even 3rd/4th choice because we could have been caught out and logically speaking, record fee or not, you would expect him to be better than what we let go and therefore an improvement on the squad quality. Essentially, it was a panic buy to cover the bases that Levy will have sanctioned as it was a name discussed by the transfer committee, including Poch and he was 'gettable' imo.

What's happened to josh onomah?

Didn't set the world on fire in his cameos but at least he can routinely control, pass and kick a football on target.

I very much hope Poch brings josh back into the fold and puts Sissoko in the under 23s, where his level of performance belongs.

Hopefully Edwards and the like can teach him a thing or two before he is sold upon the immediate opening of the transfer window.

Well, i agree basically with all that. My point was that if people want to throw such vitriol on the player - particularly because of his price-tag - they will need to save part of that vitriol for Poch too imo

Well the price tag is nothing to do with Poch so I can't agree there. Levy will deal with all of that side of it and always has done. I should imagine the manager has zero input into the price or payment structure. Totally agree with you on the vitriolic outbursts. We bought a player, he hasn't looked great....... so what? it happens. With that player not looking great we are still second, well ahead of where we expected to be at this point and barracking him every time he comes on won't make him perform better. We need to support the whole squad, even those players we don't particularly rate, they will play a part in how well we finish whether it because they contribute directly or because of their influence around the squad - sometimes simply being there with people who you get on with creates the right environment to go to work.

Just to clarify i'm saying i think many are giving Sissoko 'extra' vitriol because of the price-tag, not that i think that they should be.

Couldn't agree more. He didn't set the price and knowing our chairman, it wasn't that price anyway. People need to just leave the whole price thing alone. I think most people wouldn't have fancied him at £10m so people getting on his back about how a club payed an overinflated fee is just stupid.

i'm Genuinely starting to have a massive dislike to this point

There is a reason you pay a premium for premiership proven players....and that is mainly because the risk is low and acclimatisation to the league is minimal / sometimes nothing.

Yes its a new system but sissoko has been training with this team for months...match sharpness? again if you really wanted to reach everytime he has a sub par game you can indeed cling to this. But for a guy that has played multiple years in this league, that costs us a record level transfer fee and is supposed to be a player that is bought for his physical attributes primarily i dont think its fair to the team / supporters / management to say that he is new to the system and not getting much game time. you can get that reasoning and performance level from a 10 million pound player but we shouldn't easily and happily attach them to sissoko's performances......this is a multi billion pound industry and he gets paid more money than entire households in 1 week....plus we are really trying to push on and acheive something here...and if a 30 million pound bench player with ample league experience thats long in the tooth in age and mentality is going to keep putting sub par performances then we should pull him up on it

i think he should own it, he played bad/average/not worthy of this seasons tottenham team and thats pretty much it..no excuses....get on the training ground come back and try your damnedest to do better
It's always about the price tag, isn't it? The player doesn't set it, but he has to live up to it.

I'm not the biggest Sissoko fan, but he has shown he has the quality and I think a run of games is what might allow the Euros Sissoko to emerge. As I said, we shall see. I, for one, am not writing him off quite yet.

Of course Poch knew the price before Sissoko was purchased and sanctioned the deal anyway. He may not have known the minutia of the deal or been involved in the negotiations but to think he didn't know the bottom line is not really believable. What that bottom line is seems a matter for debate, but whatever the price Poch must shoulder some of the blame. He pulled the trigger on this.
In saying that, you win some and you loose some. Transfers are a gamble no matter what. And who knows, he might improve or score a late winner to win the league. Football is funny like that.

Look he never going to make it here but has a job to do even if it is to run around a bit for the last 10 minutes.

Ultimately a poor buy.

From your mouth to GHod's ears! Let us hope so.

Shy? WTF? He has 20 under 21 caps and 50 full international caps so telling me he is shy is a lame excuse

There is something psychological going on when he gets near goal. Other players surfer it, especially amateur players. Whether called a 'rush of blood' or whatever Sissoko has more ability than his finishing shows. He craps himself when through and has no composure. Call it shy, lacking temperament but he has ability, more than he showed last game.

Are you serious? He looked like a non league player after he came on on Saturday. Zero positional sense, composure or creativity. I know its not easy coming on a getting up to speed in a game but he's an experienced international in his late twenties, not a 19 year academy player.

Poch most definitely isn't one to just get a player in to add bodies. He'd rather blood a youngster than do that....
