From what I saw in our Southampton match, Wimmer is better than VvD.

vvD is a very good centre back but being hyped up as the bext big thing because it seems some clubs lack imagination or the ability to look beyond Name players

Wimmer cost £4M and is better than any City centre back with their average fee being around £35m. Says more about City to me

Someone in another thread said 'team' teams are winning these days rather than galactico teams, but that's because the money teams have spent there budget on brick.

I agree massively

If you have a system and a structure you can out perform teams that have "better players on paper"

The reality is though that City actually have brought really badly... aguero and de bruyne are class but you see players like Delph still there, Ottamebdi, Mangala, Bony... that's almost £120m of player that are brick

Chelsea are earning rave reviews and rightly so but again they spent £120m odd in the summer on Kante, Alonso, Batshuiyi and side show bob.... they should be better having lost no one and actually spending more money than our whole first 11 cost yesterday

Bruma of Galatasary has been mentionned in the press. He looks like a really impressive player, probably a younger and cheaper version of Mané. My question though, is has GKN completely flopped?

Dont suppose we can write him just yet, but it isnt looking good at present, but tbh I never got why we sort of swapped him for N'jie

Just highlights our problem in trying to improve .. our team (first 11) is actually very well balanced, and most players are upper tier PL quality.

- No major gap (we have good back 5, two DM's, good possession based CMs, good front 3 pivot, and the best English striker in league)
- You really have 3 choices
- Buy a WC player to walk on team (unlikely to afford or attract)
- Buy depth players that won't obviously affect first team results (Trippier, Davies, Janssen & Sissoko to a lesser extent are that)
- Buy potential, and hope that potential can take limited opportunities to prove themselves.

I'd argue, I'm not sure Dele, Rose or even Kane (in their initial versions) would be allowed enough time to make a spot on the team their own now. Dele is our "luxury" player, every one else works their ass off and puts in a fairly consistent level of performance.

Adrian Gaffney (journalist following Spanish football (and Spurs fan)) tweeted a couple of bits about Bruma earlier :

There was also a mention that he is delaying signing an extended contract. So whether links to us are genuine, or just part of an agent ploy to extract a better deal, who knows.

Personally I don't think he looks ready yet and needs games. Maybe he could get say 10-15 FAC and EL games if we do well and that would help him settle but I wouldn't want him starting a PL game yet

Impossible to know from the outside if Pochettino thinks GKN just isn't ready yet and just needs time on the training ground or if he's not quite the player we thought he was when we signed him. For me he's shown quite a lot of potential when given the chance so I hope it's the former.

We haven't really seen enough of GKN to judge him for my money, possibly because he could be viewed as a riskier option when we haven't been as effective at regaining lost possession high up this season. Maybe if Lamela had been fit, we'd have seen a bit more of what he can do. I suspect we're going to see more of these 'growth potential' type purchases, though.

Agree. This time last year I would have said theres no way Poch will get rid and is probably just giving him the necessary time to bed in - Poch seems to be good at knowing when to blood a young player. However his situation to me seem pretty identical to N'Jie as I thought he showed plenty of potential with some good cameos yet before he'd been given a proper run to see if would sink or swim he'd been released. GKN seems to also have something about him so I hope he is going to be given further time to flourish....

In his limited time GKN looks miles better than Njie, he will get a few games in the FA cup I imagine (hopefully!!)
