*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Scum OMT ***

Indeed Poch seems to like this 3-5-2 in certain positions e.g. the Southampton game.

I hope he uses it more often, tbh. Against teams that sit deep, perhaps - it could get more of our lads into the box and keep a constant presence out wide (stretching play) while also keeping the back line fairly tight. If we do go 3-4-1-2 again, though, I'd like to see Wanyama/whoever the holding player is dropped in favour of a distributor - Wanyama played really well, but I feel like one of the three CBs could come out early and play as the DM while still allowing for two men back. It would give us even more threat up front. Against weaker teams only, of course - it was a good decision to play him against Arsenal, and I feel like him and Xhaka were the key reasons why both teams started going long in the second half.
I agree that Janssen looked off the pace. He wasn't good. Still think he'll come good once he's gotten used to the tempo of the league.
I am not sure if its that he is off the pace, I honestly dont think he is good enough for this league. There is no doubt he can score goals, his record last season proves it. His strength and his ability to hold up a ball is excellent, no qualms there whatsoever, but his ability to score is definitely questionable.
The chance v Palace was woeful, but 2nd match so was forgiven, Gillingham he was better, but come on, it was Gillingham. We're now 3 months down the line and he does not seem to be good enough for the level we aspire to be at

I think he was trying to avoid clearing out Cech and causing him an injury tbh.

Which shouldn't really be his concern - it's Cech's responsibility to keep his legs in and prevent himself getting injured. He took the risk by extending his legs to clear it - at that point, it's Son's duty to take the risk and go in, since Cech's made his decision. If he's in that position next time, I fully expect either a crunching tackle followed by a possible chance or (if he's smart) a similar sort of leap over Son's challenge being made by Cech/whoever's in that position, provided of course that they want to avoid an injury.

How can webb say they are "not going for the ball" Their run itself is going for the ball, "attempting to play the ball". And the run is "making an impact on the player to play the ball".

Refs not interpreting the rules properly imo.

No. They werent attempting to play the ball - they would have only been attempting to play the ball when the ball went to him

And they didn't impact Wimmer playing the ball; they caused him to play the ball - there's a difference

Its nuts, and the rule needs changing, however by the letter of the law the ref/linesman got it right

Rose was the standout MOM for me, followed by Vertonghen and Dembele. Lloris was good too. Good team performance all around and though it wasn't a win I would have bitten your hand off for a draw before this match started.

Son though annoyed the crap out of me today. Near the end when we were under pressure he hardly tracked back at all and bottling out of that challenge with Czech was unforgivable really. I let such a shout when he did that I scared all my kids!!

Can't be too upset though and we could have nicked it too.

Its a joke. Webb trying to stick up for his mate. Everybody in that studio, even Ian Wright ffs, and 95% of the rest of us knows that goal should not stand

Why do NLD always leave you frustrated. We need to win these kind of games if we aspire to be top dogs. Obviously a good performance from us. But there is an X factor missing. For me its an attacking player who can run the game. Someone with Rose's drive and desire and of course lots of skill.

Mane, Sanchez, etc. Sissoko even might help but technically can he raise his game? He doesn't score, but we know Poch. He brings on this kind of player...

And most out and out strikers - Costa, for example -would have challenged for that ball. Son is obviously too polite.

we just need to get some key players back and some other key players back on form. I'm not sure what we would learn from this game though
not the game from arsenal. they play some positive football in and around the box, apoart form early crosses that find players.

Hopefully Walker can recover from his knock so that we're only missing Dele for the Spammers game, and we can get on a run

I hate international breaks, but this one could have come at a good time for us so that TA, Lamela, Walker etc can get fit

Next time we lose a game, perhaps we can have less of the histrionics on here that we had on Thursday. Still unbeaten in the league, still not hit form, still there in the hunt. Poch is the man - end of.

Not sure what to say about this. We were absolutely shocking, unbelievably bad in mid-week - we improved today, and deservedly so. The one is a different situation to the other, and it seems to me to be fine to be utterly shocked by one and pleased by the other.

Son did play well for an hour tbf. Then just gave up. Tired and going though the motions after an hour. Should get shouted at so it never happens again.
