I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

I think he's the most creative player we have. He's also a bit of a pansy, can get stuck in but a little weak. There is certainly a very good player here. If he played in Eriksens role he would probable get far more assists

Yeah, I was of the same opinion but Lamela's performances in the first two matches were like a low-lights reel of all his faults from last season. That purple patch in form towards the end of last season all but a distant memory. However just as I had given up on him he comes in and pulls out that performance!! I thinking Poch and his pals have been working hard with him behind the scenes.

I guess we have to factor in Lamela was with the Argentinian squad for the Copa America this summer, and therefore like Kane returned late for pre season.
 
Lamela has proven yet again that he is our most creative player. He had 8 assists in all competitions last season. Now he has already got one. Hope he can get more this season. Just wish he can score more goals ! I am convinced he is the best passer of the ball at Spurs. It was inch perfect the way he passed the ball to Mason to score against Sunderland. It was similiar to the pass he made to Chadli to score against Arsenal last season.


These are the highlights of Lamela from last season. Look at his assist for Chadli against Arsenal (from 3:50 onwards). It is masterclass the way he sets up Chadli despite being surrounded by 3 or 4 Arsenal players. Looking at the video, it is proven he does have the skills to excel in EPL. If he can have some consistency, he can be a good player for us !

Considering the time of game and his own personal standing, he was under pressure and nailed it.

My grandma can pass like that but would probably need a nappy considering the occasion and circumstance.

I'm kinda in that camp too. It also bobbled before Mason got it and that's why Mason had a shoddy first touch

But, he had to make the pass to twan ad he was actually involved twice in the play iirc

Let's give him credit for once and see if he pushes on

Mason always had a "shoddy" touch in front of goal. Mason has simply wasted too many of those one-on-one chances for us ! But this time, Lamela's pass was too perfect for Mason to waste !

Agree. Very basic pass so not exactly an achievement to have played it, however good that he didnt screw it up. I didnt see anything in his cameo to get excited about though

A perfectly timed and weighted through ball against a Premier League defence? You'll forgive me, I'm sure, for doubting that you've seen a 10 year old do that.

If that's such a simple thing to do, how poor must our entire team be for us to almost never play a ball through that well?

One assist does not make a great player, but to say it was simple is as Rorschach says is mean-spirited.

Check out the ball at around 37 seconds

The ball from lamella bounced a couple of times and Mason had to stretch to bring it under control.. hence why he alms missed it

Its great highlighting an amazing pass but it was actually a half decent pass but excellent vision

I think we're splitting hairs but if you look at any of the passes that were made in that build up there were bobbles which suggests that it was something they were all suffering with. I get that people should not get carried away with the vision/pass but at the same time I don't think we should overly critique it. He will need to do far more of this regularly to justify his transfer.
