The post transfer window discussion

Soldado has scored two and made two in two games for his new club.
Maybe the problem was poch.

1 on 1 against fiorentina thats not poch, that was a pivotal moment in our season, if it had been almost any other player he would have got chased back to spain with pitchforks.. If only soldado had returned to his free flowing goalscoring under AVB or Sherwood.

I take the point, however whatever the reason was, soldado's head went and he was pretty useless as a striker

Or maybe the problem is that other than a handful of the usual suspects teams, most La Liga teams are the equivalent of an open bardoor when it comes to defending... Did you see Soldado's first goal? he was left in an ocean of space and it wasn't even a counter attack

Its not much better in the Prem, I have never known the English game be so poor at defending.

He was unfortunate. Did he really ever get a proper run in the side after his initial sell with AVB? We had bigger issues then.

Then Harry Kane happened. He tried, and he needed to perform under pressure. Granted he never took his chance when it came, not really. But he never was shown complete faith by the management to say, you are going to be my striker no matter what. In fact when he scored he was often dropped for the next game. Not criticising the manager it was just the situation.

Actually I've watched the games, the first was a clearance that went to midfield, the player hoofed it back to box, Soldado was first to react, made a run, controlled and finished.

I watched the second game to specifically see what he was doing different (outside of it just being a confidence thing)

- He's playing centrally (very rarely wide) as part of a two up front system
- He is the furthest forward almost always, the second striker does make runs, and that's how his first assist came, guy made run past Soldado, Soldado played great ball through.
- Interestingly they play 10-15 minutes without a single ball in the air, everything on the deck
- For all the coments re him getting too much space, he's making it, a couple of the chances he had, 3 seconds before the defender is tight to him, just before the ball gets played, he makes space, time and time again.

I think with better service, Kane deeper, Soldado central his chances would have been better.

I agree with Diego .. circumstances didn't enable him. The only thing I would level at Poch is if he spent half the effort on Soldado that he did/has with Lamela, we might have got something out of the player.

No - there's always the myth about being able to pick up free agents, but that is a myth (you can sign them, but not register them till the next window)

We should be able to recall Coulthirst earlier than end of October if we want though

It seems according to sections u4 & v4 of the premier league handbook, we can apply to register a player outside of the transfer window, and its up to the premier league board. I seem to recall there are a couple of prisidents, (that were not keepers) of clubs adding free agents to squads after transfer deadline, tho can't remember who (seem to recall Wet Spam doing it last season, tho could be dreaming!)

Gutterboy, do you have anything to back up you saying it's a myth?

It always tinklees me off when I hear folks like them go on about ticket prices, if you think you are being ripped off then do not buy them. Its supply and demand and no one holds a gun to my head when I decide to buy them.
I disagree strongly with that view. You many think you are being ripped off, but you are too passionate about football and your team to stop going. You can't easily give up on your passion even if you think tickets are too expensive.

It's obvious that tickets are too expensive. A lot of people simply don't have the money to attend games regularly. As long as the club fill their stadiums every week, it's not difficult to understand that they don't lower the prices, though. The only way something can be done about it, is if fans boycott games collectively and solidarily. If no one attends the matches, clubs would be forced to lower their prices. I really think it's high time this was done. Ideally there should be a roof on ticket prices worldwide to make sure that prices are kept low.

Well its like I said before you pays your money or takes your choice. Some of those who bitch about ticket prices probably have spent hundreds of pounds on booze, meals and going out to clubs, others have probably spent the same on eurodance records, latest phones, TV's and the like, I wonder if they moan about that?

I spend a lot of my money on traveling to watch Spurs and no one holds a gun to my head to do so, I would imagine the same thing applys to those who tinkle there money up against the wall after a night on the town.

As I say you pays your money and takes your choice.

Didn't Carlton cole sign for West Ham on 14 October 2013?

They were also the club that released him. I haven't been able to figure out if that makes a difference.

Ahh I see. Will require someone to look through the premier league rules. I have no inclination to do so, and will not ask anyone else to do so either!

The rules are extremely long winded and confusing. There's a lot of stuff about registrations and contracts, but just the one sentence on the squad list. Outside the transfer window you need the consent of the board to make changes, whatever that means.

Is peace on the premier league board??

Really? we bitch about Levy and ambition, this Window has completely proven the Scum have NO ambition for anything other than 4th place trophy.

Top 4 default is City, Cheat$ki, Scum, United. United is not a title threat, too unbalanced, short firepower. Cheat$ki has had some early season struggles, could really be one of those off seasons. That positions Scum based on their end of season form from last year as strong 2nd place challengers, add a Schniederlin type in midfield and a proven goal scorer and they could have pushed City hard.

City didn't need improving, yet they still bought.

Scum not buying in the financial position they are in, with the obvious 1 or 2 gaps where a quality player could have impacted their opportunities both in PL and CL is fudgeing criminal. I'll laugh all day long because their season will inevitably be -> compete on all fronts, perhaps even lead table at time, then fall apart in February.

Their fans absolutely should be livid.(they pay even more than us for tickets/etc.)

I agree with Wenger to some extent, that there is no point in buying for the sake of it eg Man U, but I think he was daft not get a top striker, difficult I agree. Should have gone for a Vidal and challenged Chelsea with a Stone bid maybe. Show some intent.

Arsenal fans are saints for putting up with not winning the league or champions league, there are no excuses.

I disagree, there is a brilliant excuse, they can't afford to.

sorry, were you being ironic in your first post, if so i apologise for missing it?

I think we have a case of double irony when there 'might' not be any. I dont think Arsenal have any excuses for not doing much better.

Over to you :)

sounds like zero irony then

I think arsenal are doing exactly as they should be doing for their financial situation
