*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United OMT ***

Oh how we could do with a Carrick in our side. It's a shame how we wasted the bale money, IMO personnel wise, although we have great potential, this is the weakest Spurs line up for a long time. No Modric, no Vdv, no bale, no Carrick, no berbatov or Keane, no king. When redknapp was here we had arguably a better team than Arsenal, even under AVB in his first season we more or less matched the gooners. Now they are well ahead of us, liverpool too. We need to bring in some quality which will also enable the potential to develop. It is too much to expect our youngsters to keep carrying the team week in week out especially with how impatient our fans are. I mean Lamela has played one full season and is already written off despite showing promise, Dier and Bentaleb will get pelters despite playing well most of the time. Poch is absolutely the man for the job but without investing in the squad we will be in the same place every season.

are they???? we had all those great players you listed but we never finished above them, and with these current supposed inferior players we wont be far off our usual 67-72 pts totals

Can only hope mate that Mitchell can pull some gems out of the bag like we have done in the past.

It's definitely possible. Our only trouble, like always, is that we get a gem or two, and then lose a gem from another position. Get Berbatov, lose Carrick etc.

We might have more of a shot with a team of youngsters, coz they are likely to stick around for a bit longer imo.

I think Dembele should always play against the best teams. He tends to do well in these games, and he is the best player in our squad when it comes to keeping hold of the ball under pressure.

He does give the side a bit of an anchor. Horrible decision making, but very hard to win the ball from him, a trait which makes it easier for us to lift some pressure when the opposition's baying at us.

Because imo, our coaches were not as good as Wenger. Now I believe we have the better coach but an inferior squad. They have at least 2 world class players in Ozil (granted he hasn't performed as one) and Sanchez. Kane aside they have better striking options. Their midfield has better balance. The only area we are better is the goalkeeper.

Yes we were very poor today but look at the way United blitzed us from the off. Stung by all the criticism heaped on them midweek they pulled a massive one out of the hat because they absolutely had to.

In that first thirty-five everything fell so sweetly for them it was untrue. But there's no getting away from it, they MADE it happen for them.

Massive learning curve for us but brick days like this happen to even the best of teams, never mind a young, inexperienced squad like ours. At least we did not capitulate and concede a bucketload second half like we did so often last season.

Onwards and upwards.

there is no way Poch is a better coach than Wenger, not yet anway.....Wenger's teams no matter who the personnel is will always create chances, attack without fear, be full of movement and that is the blueprint for his success. Never changes. I think we did well under Jol, Redknapp and AVB to get close, and now we wont be far off under Poch either and with more inferior players than we have had in the past

 They needed to check the oxygen levels in that changing room before they came out.. missed passes everywhere.. mason and benteleb played like walkers, infact the whole team was weirdly lethargic. When Smalling just walked past our midfield without a challenge something just did not add up here. They played like how I feel when I used to get back after 14 nights in Ibiza where you sleep for 24hrs before you went back to work. Would like to know if any of the players had headaches before entering the fold. Its like how teams used to be when up against Ferguson at Old Trafford.. slow starts and Utd killing teams off in the first half.

Off to get my silver foil helmet.

I disagree I genuinely believe that Poch, with the same personnel would produce a better team than Wenger. Just in one area, injuries, he has shown that he manages these better despite his players undertaking very intense training and fitness. Be interesting to see how Wenger does with our team. Very difficult to directly compare them because the personnel is vastly different. Under Harry and Avb it was much closer IMO. Also do you think Wenger would produce a top 4 side with say burnley's personnel, which is the suggestion of no matter who the personnel is? Also I cannot remember a Wenger team ever "owning " a Mourinho side.

Souness, Neville and Hoddle pointing out we have no leadership now.
Needed someone on the pitch to see what was going wrong and offer leadership to fix it.

i didnt see anyone mention our lack of leaders when we came back from 1-0 down to beat Chelsea and Arsanal, or the countless other games we have rescued from losing positions this season

sometimes teams have an off day...sh!t happens

I deeply hate saying this, but perhaps throwing the EL and both of the cups completely will effectively give us the edge over all our rivals for top 4. Most fans won't care if we throw games to get a top 4 trophy. From a long term fan point of view it is sickening but from a financial pov etc it now makes sense to "put all our eggs in one basket" when the rewards are so great and with a stadium to pay for, its the easy decision.

United outplayed us in every department today.

Very annoying, as both AVB and Sherwood came away from Old Trafford with three points.

A Top Four finish is still not quite out of the question, but we need to win just about every match remaining to achieve it.

There is an easy way to beat Spurs and that is to put us under a bit of pressure. That's it. That's all you need to do. We can't handle it at all and generally we fall to pieces.

Utd were on us from minute 1, with sometimes 3 or 4 utd players around the Spurs player in possession. They suffocated our game completely and forced us into error after error. It was quite impressive really and though they ran out of steam after about 60 mins the damage had already been done. Mourinho's team do something similar in a lot of matches. They are all over you like a rash for about an hour and then they sit in a defend the lead the usually have.

This quest for top 4, does it include actually playing in it. Imagine we draw Barca, Real, or Munich in our group. We have to learn first, how to deal with pressure situations or we'll end up with hammerings. Today we clearly couldn't handle the pressure whatsoever.

We would have been fine if Bentaleb marked Fellaini the entire game.
Poch stuggles to change anything before half time.
And no one on the pitch took any responsibility to offer Walker more protection.
Where were the leaders?
Bentaleb and Mason should have swapped. It was that obvious I spotted it.
It wasn't just that, Mason was marking space in front of Fellaini, which forced Walker infield and between Fellaini took up a dangerous position between himself and Dier.
Mason could have just got goal-side of Fellaini, which would mean Walker can look after Young and Dier can cover Rooney. Unfortunately, Mason didn't adjust his position.
Note however, in the second half Bentaleb was goal-side of Fellaini and jumped with him and broke the link with Rooney. We feared Fellaini's aerial threat which Doer didn't cope well with but they caused us much trouble by feeding the ball accurately to Fellaini in the right channel.

IMO you don't need two holding DMs, just one who reads the game and is allowed to adjust. Carrick schooled our two how to play there.
Earlier Schneiderling and Wanyama, played as a two and dominated Chelsea's three in Southampton's 4-4-2. It can be done.

This is the game book of how top teams win, it is how Arsenal have finished top 4, season after season, for eg despite their attacking reputation. Press high and you'll force mistakes, then punish them, that is it. After that all you have to do is defend set pieces and sit back and play on the counter attack with pace.

Arsenal finish top 4 every season because they consistently beat teams outside of the top 4-5. We need to focus on doing that now.

I am afraid the game was lost in the first 35 mins. Starting Townsend and Chadli put us at a massive disadvantage, as they dont help out in midfield so when they lose the ball Mason and Bentalab were outnumbered all the time and when pressed were forced into errrors or gave the ball away. Add to that almost everyone from our side had an off day. Tyime Dembele came on the horse had bolted. We only looked slightly better inn the second half because Utd took their foot off the gas and let us have more of the ball. Its sickening because Utd really arent that good. I bet Liverpool rip them next week at Anfield.
It will be interesting to see who we get rid of and bring in next season. On a positive note I think if Poch achieves a top six finish with our current squad it will be a great achievement as we have so many average players.
Would love to see Schniederlin bought in to bolster our midfield but fear he will end up with that French taco at L'arse. It will be a crucial window, but I think we spunked the Bale money on a load of average squad players, and the 2 big money signings we made( Soldado and Lamela) havent made the grade and will probably be gone if we can get any money or offers for them

That is why. I wanted him to start but I don't believe he is an AM. For me am AM must create and score goals he is not very good at this, however, he does look after his FB, when he plays as LCM and is strong in terms of recovering the ball and tracking. Unfortunately, that means you must drop Mason or Bantaleb.
