Andros Townsend

Im not talking goals/assists im talking measures of everything relating to what happens on a football pitch...

Stats mean nothing, Xavi is the best playmaker in the world but go check his stats out.

Stats do mean something, just not everything. Since when does how many goals and assists someone scores not mean anything?

Xavi has been one of the very best playmakers, but if by stats you mean his assists number then Im guessing they wont be high because a playmakers job is to keep attacking play ticking over, to recycle the ball quickly and effectively. Same with Modric, a great playmaker for us but wasn't credited with many assists. But I bet if you look at their pass completion rate, number of passes in a game etc they'd be impressive....

If you don't think Xavi's stats are good then you're looking at the wrong ones.

What i am saying is the stats most people look at are goals and assists. Lamela may have more assists than Townsend but are there stats to say how if a player crosses in a ball and it leads to a goal rather than it being the main assist? i.e Townsend crosses the ball it bounces off of 2 players falls to our player to shoot it gets blocked and then Kane gets on the end of it to score? the goal would not happen if the cross did not come in. these are the sort of things that do not get recorded and people do not use in arguments when comparing 2 players.

It doesn't matter what stats you look at, Townsend is useless.

I think Townsend looks at Lamela more as a rival than a team mate, especially when it comes to taking freekicks.

Against Villa, he aggressively stopped Lamela from taking the ball from Kane for the freekick from which Kane scored from.

Against West Ham recently, he rudely tried to grab the ball from Lamela but was not given by Lamela who stared back angrily at Townsend. Lamela eventually wasted that freekick.

Ofcourse, both should forget about taking any of our freekicks as long as our freekick specialist Eriksen is on the field. But really don't like the attitude of Townsend. He could start an on-field fight with Lamela if he continues to be "aggressive" towards Lamela.

To be fair to Lamela he has been putting in the best corners for us of late. Also a number of passes that we fail to convert - like the through ball to Soldado 2nd level fiorentina - gets lost in the stats.

Lamela works hard, moves the ball forward and occasionally loses the ball, signed for a fee, disliked.
Mason works hard, moves the ball forward and occasionally loses the ball, youth product.

the fee is why hes a spacegoat. He's leagues above Townsend which is an embarrassing comparison personally.

Take the bias out and there is no comparison.

On every objective measure Townsend is a poor choice.

I think Lamela is a bit better than Townsend and perhaps has more potential, but I don't think the team would be any worse off if Townsend had played all of Lamela's minutes and we kept the £30m-odd in the bank.

It's definitely our weakest position, we have two players who aren't delivering competing for one spot. Hopefully, one of them will step up.

Not a terribly bad player, but he's not smart enough for our system. Far too one dimensional, constantly running into blind alleys and never looks capable of a good pass or shot. Today he was very poor.

We need to upgrade, sadly. Because he's a homegrown and a Spurs fan, I really wanted him to succeed, but he's failed to live up to his initial potential.
