*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace***OMT ***

First choice DM = unavailable

First choice FW = injured

First choice CB = anyone's guess, we simply do NOT know, but Moreno was injured and I'd say Fazio is a better player and a better fit than both Lovren and Mussachio.

Yes, Jord, I know, I know, the CB situation is opaque and there were all sorts of seemingly 'logical' reasons to avoid making more than one derisory ten million pound bid for Schneiderlin or any bid for Rodriguez, or to preserve that profit we ended up with. I don't want to start all that up again. Sigh.

Essential point being, don't blame Poch for some of the players he brought on today/started. He had no choice, and I strongly suspect that he didn't want them playing either.

To be fair to our boys, I do believe exhaustion is taking its toll Parry said we have played more matches than any other Premier league side. 34, I think already. Have played something like 7 games in the last 21 days.

And equally we shouldn't be blaming Levy for the minimal amount of changes to the squad this summer. If we start next season with pretty much the same bunch of inept footballers, by all means.

I was there - Surely the worst decision he made was not giving the foul against fazio in the first half which would have resulted in a red card?

Have only just seen replay of their pen which clearly never was; Kane pen was right in front of me - my immediate reaction was no pen - I thought Harry anticipated contact which never came and then went down. I will look at a replay later.

Taylor, Mike Jones and Jon Moss are the worst referees in the PL at the moment.

We can't have a 23/24/25 man squad full of top-four quality players, though I know that wasn't the exact point you were trying to make. I'm not disagreeing with you in that we need quality, not quantity, but the backups and competition players that we do have heading into the next season and the one after that have to still be players Poch trusts and knows: I think he was largely forced to choose his 'backup' players this summer, and that's what we got - backups. The actual quality players (if the Glorious Leader deigns to make bids of more than 10 million pounds for them, of course) will come in the next few windows, but that doesn't mean we should judge these players according to inflated standards when their roles in the squad were probably meant to be very different to the marquee 'quality' players that we also need.

I hear what you are saying. My key point is that we can only judge Poch when he has reformed the squad and brought in some key quality players. I hope this process starts this window.

I don't think the squad changes this summer were 'minimal', though. We did bring in five players, after all. I think they were by far cheapest changes we could have made, and that that's screwed Poch over to an extent. Still, nothing to be done about it now. Rest assured, I'm wearily expecting much the same type of behaviour next summer, and I'll take you up on your offer with glee then. For now, just important not to rush to the well shouting at Poch when he's been deprived of Bentaleb and Mason and has had to bring in lesser players to make up for that hole.

Regardless of decisions we weren't cormoftable against them. They had lots of chances. More than ours. Not a good day.

We brought in a LB because we needed one and for good money.

We brought in a backup GK.

We brought in a backup defender in Dier, more likely one for the future.

We brought an experienced CB. He cost less than half than what Mussachio would have. So ****ing what?

We brought in a CM on the cheap, but as a squad player that's exactly what you want.

We are taking this season for Poch to assess the players already here. Now we know exactly what we have, which we didn't in the summer.

On balance, Palace deserved their win today because Spurs failed to put the game to bed once we took the lead.

You can argue about the refereeing decisions until the cows come home but the fact remains we simply weren't good enough to come away with anything today.

Unless we get rid of say Adebeyor Kaboul Chiriches and any others this window I cant see us bringing anyone in. This is when the high wages of the premier league come back to haunt us . Its why we cant offload players like Soldado plenty of Spanish clubs would have him but cant afford his wages. Just another expensive misfit we are stuck with. Even if we try to sell him rather than loan him we would be lucky to get a third of what we paid for him, likewise Lamela and Paulinho to name just 3 we should be looking to get rid of.
Hopefully next season the board will back the manager and get the players in, in positions we need them that the manager wants. Not a load of average players bought by who knows? Only trouble is we havent got a Bale to sell and give us a big transfer kitty

We brought in back-ups this summer. I was just talking to Pirate55 about this: almost every player we brought in was bought as a back-up, and thus they should be judged based on their intended squad-role as back-ups. And to that extent they've been decent signings for the most part. What we didn't do was bring in quality, the quality Poch asked for and the quality that would have ensured an easier transition for him. Instead, we faffed around making one solitary ten million pound bid for Schneiderlin in the hope that it would trigger some release clause, and then gleefully sodding off when it didn't and we were asked to pay what he was really worth: avoiding spending on the quality additions because we decided to go down the sneaky route and buy the 'back-ups' first instead, because that was cheaper and easier. We probably assured Poch that we'd bring in the actual 'quality' in future windows.

I'm not looking forward to Poch getting his hopes dashed when those 'future windows' arrive and our Glorious Leader proves the worth of his words yet again, but that's for another time. Yes, we brought in back-ups this summer. Yes, Poch now probably knows what we need and where the squad is at. But we also made absolutely pathetic, abortive attempts to sign quality in the summer, and the failure of those pathetic, pallid attempts has held him back and led to situations where throwing on Capoue is seen as a viable solution to the loss of control in a game.

Just back 10/10 from our away support as usual as for on pitch what can I say? Your manager wants schneiderlin you give him the Sunday league equivalent in Stambouli that's the sort of reaults you will get. Good day out and the support is very much behind poch lets just hope levy backs him In window(s) something which I somehow doubt he will

Absolutely bang on!

Thought I read somewhere we only paid £10m-£11m up front for Soldado, the rest was conditional on appearances and stuff. If so, even if get a bit less than that back, it's not too big a hit.

which is why we should have totally changed our team against burnley midweek. guys like eriksen must be spent. that was the game to givebthem a cheeky break as there is no let up now for a while

Simples. I agree. Outshot 21-9, fewer shots on goal, etc., and Lloris made some key saves.

This game wasn't much different to most other games we have played against this kind of opposition this season. A fairly even game, could have gone either way, but this time it went against us. This is our level at the moment. We're simply not good enough to dominate these games from start to finish. I think the Chelsea game gave a lot of fans a false hope, me included. I think everyone agreed from the beginning of the season that we are not good enough to finish in the top 4 this season, but after such a result it is difficult not to start to dream. Today we weren't great, but we played at pretty much the same level we have played at in most games this season. We've had the rub of the green in a few games this season, tonight it went the other way.

I noticed that a lot of people blame the central midfielders today, but I don't think they were that bad. I thought Dembele and Stambouli were okay. Not great, but okay. Capoue wasn't that horrible after coming on. I don't think he is good enough, but we didn't lose because of him. Palace were in the ascendancy for pretty much the entire second half. Nothing changed after Capoue came on.

A bigger problem today was that the players who need to produce the goods for us, Chadli (despite his assist), Eriksen and even Kane (despite his goal), weren't very good. I am one of Eriksen's biggest fans, but he must have put in his worst performance for us today. Slow, weak and seemed unable to control the ball (which seemed to be a problem for a lot of our players today. The pitch didn't look great, but still.)

We are also very dependent on a few players to do the business for us. We have a lot of players, but not a lot of good players. Townsend is far too close to a place in the team. After his injury he isn't not even quick anymore. I can't see anything he brings to the team. I hope that we can find a few players to strengthen us in the transfer window. We need to get more quality in, although I realize it is a difficult time. I am surprised we weren't in for a player like Shaqiri, though. Surely we can compete with Inter Milan for players these days?
