**** TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Swansea Rovers FC ****** Official Match Thread

Almost any team that plays open football against us is asking for trouble, especially if we play our favoured 4-4-2 with Lennon/Bale on the flanks and VDV+1 up top.

Think we should be picking the team which worked best for us earlier this season ie midfield of Bale, Modric, Parker and Lennon with VdV and Adebayor up top

I always think that when teams are off-form they're better off sticking to the basics and what they know rather than p1ss about with different formations, players and combinations

Agree with this and this team if everyone fit

I'd start with Ade up front by himself and VdV on the right of a five man midfield. Get a couple of goals up and then go 442 with Lennon on the right.

That's gonna be the hard part.
I don't think Swansea are gonna be there for the taking.

The idea that we should roll them over just because they play an 'open' game is laughable. They aren't Saudi Sportswashing Machine. They more resemble Arsenal.
They will be closing us down all over the pitch and pressing us. They'll probably end up having most of the possession as well.
If we win this, it will be down to our players working their arses off to stop them in the same way Everton did.

Exactly. Assuming Swansea will be easier to play against just because they play good football is asking for trouble. They are a very, very dangerous side, and can hurt us if we let them have even a bit of space.
I think the approach when playing them is this; tell the players to play as they would if they were playing against us. How do you stop Tottenham? Quite similarly, how do you stop Swansea? What works for one will probably work for the other.

Only just seen this tinkle poor OMT. Where's the effort gone these days?

Swansea 10-0

Just has to be:

-------------Friedel

Walker--Gallas--Kaboul--BAE

---Parker--Sandro--Modric

----vdV--------------Bale

-------------Ade

again, unless Lennon is fit again.

Spot on.

Wouldn't rush Lennon back, spot on the bench, come on in the second half!

Agreed, except Livermore for me, instead of Sandro or Lennon, even if fit.

Swansea don't play open football at all.

I agree. They play good attacking football and very often try to build from the back, but they defend as a unit, get men behind the ball and are quite solid at the back.

The only real situation where they are "open" are when they get counter attacks against them, since they build from the back so often they sometimes give away some guilt-edged counter attacking opportunities. Everton exploited that quite well when they beat Swansea.

Nearly, Livermore will start.

I hope so. I think Livermore and Parker (/Sandro) offer more going forward than Sandro and Parker with a relatively small loss defensively, especially if we field a 3 man midfield with Modric in it.

I think we will win now - especially after the arse result.

I could see our players being even more motivated as a result.

7-1 to spurs
