Danny Rose

I have no problem in saying that I thought he was total ****e last year, but he really has turned it around this season. I'll have a slice of humble pie please and many more if he keeps on turning in committed performances like that.

The one key difference I've noticed is that he wants to defend. Last year he looked like a player doing a job in a position he didn't really want to play in. This season he is chasing back and making good defensive decisions. He did let a few crosses in that he might have done better closing down but overall an 8/10 for me. Well done.

Massive game from Danny today, in a tough environment against good opponents (Ox, etc). Seemed to be marking two people at times because Eriksen and Lamela in front of him were defensive liabilities. Impressive game from Rose, in a demanding position. Well done.

Never doubted his talent as defender but when we move forward he leaves to much space, and distribution is poor.signs Poch is curbing that cavalier attitude

Yesterday, you could see Poch telling Danny to stay back as he wanted us to be solid. It seems to be part of our normal system that he will mostly attacking which at times is a shame as he has cost us goals being caught so far out of position and obviously we look so shaky at the back.

Thought his battle with Oxlade Chamberlain was really good. Both full blooded in challenges and just played very well. His use of the ball going forward has improved but seemed a little more erratic as the game went on but that seemed symptomatic of the whole side

For me, he needs to get beaten by his man less, dive into tackles less and improve his distribution quite a lot.

Yet some have been declaring him MOM or a contender for, over the past few games. The truth is probably somewhere in between. He can improve his game, but he could become one of the best LBs in the country. Davies didn't even make the bench so Poch looks to have faith. Had we just signed Rose this summer, and he'd played these past 5 games we would be congratulating ourselves on what a great purchase. I hope he will continue to improve and work on his game. He can become one of the best LBs in the league.

I think he's got it in him to improve.

My real issue is that we bought backup for him rather than an experienced hand from whom he could learn. Someone who could play now whilst Rose improves.

I really don't think Ben Davies was bought as back up. I think he was brought in a first choice, competition at worst. Just Rose seems to have taken the bull by the horns as it were, and has really worked hard for the starting spot. I am a big, big fan of Ben Davies, and think long term he will be far superior to Rose - but right now, Rose deserves his chance.

Same here. By no means the ideal wing back yet, but he has improved a lot this season. Hoping that we eventually see this trend across the squad - Pochettino and his team actually improving players beyond their initial promises and abilities.

They are both good young full backs. Rose has the edge with his pace and ability to get forward, Davies height and better defensive discipline - though Rose has been disciplined this season. One area of the team that's sorted. Poch put them emphasis on sorting the defence over the summer and looks to have done so. Now the midfield...

What more would you want from him on this seasons performance?

Better delivery
Better relationship with the wing forward
better distribution and decision making when we have possession
being able to do a YP Lee and take ownership the entire left side (yes quite a few full backs do do this) when the wing forward does more of their forward duties(althgough to be fair this is not his fault so much as it is our capacity to keep the ball and distribute in the midfield when he decides to venture forward and provide the natural width we lack)

i would say its more to do with his ball playing. he isnt a bad player at all..far from it, infact this season he is much improved but i still think we could do better

it really shouldnt all boil down to getting in a few tackles and being athletic.....at one point about 4 years ago i would have agrreed with you and said that was all we needed. but these days possession is really important as is delivery

to sign off, not unhappy with him, quite the opposite, but with players like eriksen and lamela and chadli being the winger forwards these days the flanks are not being properly utilised as well as they should be
