Re: Kaboul

One small caveat is that (like Dawson before him) defending that deep really suits him. It's in higher lines where his poor decision making is costly.

I am inclined to agree with you, like Dawson he tends to struggle when he has to compete with raw pace, but then John Terry has made a whole career of it, you play deep and the key word is "positioning"

Just so good today. Read everything, won everything. Just showed so much fight and heart, he knows about the NLD and he brought his passion.

Spot on, if he sits deep and defends he is OK - it is when he gets big ideas and starts trying to play clever football or play a high line that it all goes wrong.

We're going to need to play a high line in the majority of games though. Todays was Poch's plan b, not his plan a.

Re: Kaboul

Excellent, excellent game. I gave him a lot of **** recently, but in games like this, when his back's against the wall, he seems to become the dominant defender we all saw in 2011-2012 again.

Things change. We don't have any centre-backs who look good when we push too high - infact, Kaboul is probably the best equipped of the ones we have.

Re: Kaboul

He looked determined from the go and was simply super - ill also add that Vert was also super - infact the whole back five were. Looked like a really soid unit. The goal from them was a calamity though.

Re: Kaboul

Bizarrely it was Kaboul today that pressed their right back, which made Eriksen able to nick the ball and supply Lamela who fed Chadli who scored.

Absolute beast today, and a proper leader. Great game.

+1

I just think it's good, that we can at last talk about how good defensively we were as a team, against a top opponent.

Re: Kaboul

Absolute top class today. Vertonghen also had a very good game.

It could be that defending deeper helped them, but I also think it has to do with focus and concentration. If they can stay at this level when it comes to the mental aspect of the game week in week out, they could be a good partnership. Today they were up for it and lever let their guard down. That has to be the case every week.

Agree 100%.

Re: Kaboul

Saw Younes play to his level in that game. Absolute beast!! Still think if he can continue on a run of games and keep fit, we can see this type of level regularly this season.

Re: Kaboul

Excellent game, but I think they played into our hands, a lot of aimless balls from wide. What did impress me though was his desire and leadership.

Re: Kaboul

Perhaps we will sell Chiriches in January and keep Dier as our 4th choice CB. I'd like that, especially as it will free up a squad space and allow Dier to get time in his preferred position.

Re: Kaboul

we defended much better as a team today and defended really deep at times with 2 banks of four. special mention for lamela and mason, who put in an extra shift in defence, screening the very slick arsenal midfield. mason was the extra pair of legs we didn't have here in our previous games.
