Sandro - Beast

We missed him today. A midfield of dembele and Sandro would have been far more solid.

Perhaps a midfield we should return to if we can get the front four performing on the same wavelength.

The problem is that getting the front four to perform on the same wavelength without proper service (passes). Sandro and Dembele have never been able to provide that and I see no reason to think that they all of a sudden will.

Sandro does so much more though, he will often win a tackle that sets the attacks in motion. He also is v good at pressing which i would have thought fits Poch's style. Just doesnt make sense to me he's the heartbeat of Spurs for me.

True, but against the big teams would you rather sacrifice creativity and have a solid midfield, or go for broke and have a cardboard midfield?

Against the smaller teams sure, play more creative minded players. If we play Capoue and bentelab against the big teams we might do worse than we did last season against the top four. Which was 27-2. Madness.

At the moment I'd def go Sandro-Capoue against the big (or physical) teams and Bentaleb-Capoue against the rest.

We really missed Sandro against West Ham and Liverpool

I don't think Capoue and Bentaleb is a cardboard midfield.

What is it that you like about Capoue? I really don't see what he offers the team.... Yes he is on the ball quite a lot and completes lots of passes - but that is because he takes the easy option occupying the space in front of our back 4 and then plays a simple sideways pass. He played in the same sort of position that Hoddle played in his twighlight years at Swindon and Chelsea. The difference being that Hoddle was extremely creative.

I thought yesterday against Liverpool Capoue was appalling. He ranked alongside Kaboul as the worst player on the pitch. He failed to get near Stirling and snuff out Liverpool's creative threat for the entire game.

I personally think that of our existing players Sandro and Dembele would offer the best platform for our attacking 3 in front of them. With Sandro and Bentaleb being the next best option.

I agree with most of that except for your choice of Dembele. IMO he's one of the main reasons we failed to quickly transition the ball to our forwards last season.

It's a point that's been made endlessly here, but Dembele just doesn't ever seem to release the ball quickly enough. I don't know if it's a lack of movement ahead (unlikely, as other players don't have the same problem), a lack of vision (again, unlikely as he seems to be able to make passes from time to time), a lack of peripheral vision or just slow reaction speeds. Whatever it is, he holds the ball far too long for what we're trying to do.

Sandro and Bentaleb for me.

Dare I say it but J Redknapp actually said something that I agreed with. Capoue likes to play the game at his pace and when he plays against the better teams or even a team that presses quickly it knocks him out of his rhythm. QPR were the perfect opponent for Capoue but I would suggest that in the prem those games are in the minority.

Sandro transfer eyed by QPR as Tottenham demand £16m for Harry Redknapp to be reunited with Spurs' defensive midfielder

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2739619/Sandro-transfer-eyed-QPR-Tottenham-demand-16m-Spurs-midfielder.html

"Harry Redknapp wants Sandro but would have to smash QPR's transfer record after Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy demanded £16million for the defensive midfielder.

Redknapp knows the 25-year-old well from his time as manager of Tottenham and is keen to nab Sandro, who seems out-of-favour with Mauricio Pochettino.

Sandro was absent from the Tottenham squad that lost 3-0 against Liverpool at White Hart Lane, but Levy wants double the original £8m fee that Redknapp paid in 2010"

16M, gotta love Levy and his negotiating stance..

If we are not getting schneiderlin then we must keep Sandro. Twice the defensive player that capoue is. That said I have a lot of faith in poch to make the right call.

dembele was a different player for Fulham where he.controlled games such as against Utd. He was more like that on his first season. His game regressed last season. We need him back and I believe playing him in a more advanced role would do that rather than as a defensive midfielder where he is not comfortable.

Dembele is like Townsend, all the tools, just needs a brain (something I just don't think you can teach)

Flatters to deceive, because he gets a lot of the ball in midfield, and can shield it better than almost any player I've seen. Problem is he either hangs on to it for too long, runs down a dead end or eventually just makes a poor pass.

FFS.. IF Levy sells Sandro and doesn't bring in Schneirderlin as replacement.. I will be majorly ****ed. Simple.. no Schneiderlin no Sandro sale.

If Schneiderlin is worth £27m, Sandro is worth £40m.

Why pay £20m+ for Schneiderlin when we can get Stambouli for £5m? Sure he might not be as good and sure he probably won't improve us but he's cheap enough that we'll most likely turn a profit on him :mickey:

Have we not learned about buying players from Europe with no Premiership experience then lol. I honestly do no trust also Levy's decision making regards to buying players.

Stromboli should be a replacement for sending say Bentaleb on loan.. or even Carroll. Not for a seasoned premiership player.

And many took a season to settle.. in particular Modric. Many of the above also have internation experience and country level and European top flight football under there belt also.
