Andros Townsend

I started a post about why I want homegrown players to succeed and then felt I did the response no justice. Unless, you've grown up in the area (pretty deprived) and tried to go through the ranks to represent your local team - you have absolutely no idea of what it means. I've recognised the good and ****e primary schools in the borough, the feeling when you wore your primary school colours, the players who could rip you apart (not only in footie but other sportsday events during the Haringey district sports) and your efforts were to represent your borough (which I did) and by any such luck - a local team (Leyton Orient were the cool club). So any chance you moved on up through the ranks was a dream come true - we all knew who was doing that (Chris Bart Williams during my days, and we all respected him and admired him for being the local lad who actually made it). It is such an effort! So for me; Andros represents that effort and is someone who I relate to as a local lad and be it someone who tried to get to this team some 20+ years ago. He also represents the local diaspora (being mixed-race, half Greek-Cypriot).

I relate to my local-area more than I relate to this country; that includes all the ****e I hate (I do get a little hung up on nouveau-working class who in my opinion are non-community and lesser law following)...

He is sh1t tonight admittedly :D
I sort of understand that, although I don't feel it at all.

I consider the area I grew up the way I do being English - an incredibly unfortunate accident of birth.

I'm Spurs by choice. The 90s gave all of us more than enough reason not to be, but we all stuck with that choice. Just like I chose to live in Chichester - I feel a lot of affinity for those who've also made that choice, much like I do Spurs fans.

Was good for Townsend to get the full 90 today, allowed poch a full look at him.

Seems to have gotten the 'shoot on sight' mentality under a bit more control. Two completely wayward shots, a penalty and a good shot late on to test the keeper. Not too shabby. Thought he was good in the first 45, but started to look a bit isolated second which led to him losing possession quite a few times.

Townsend should be sold to any club who are mug enough to buy him. The guy is barely Premiership standard....mind blowing that Spurs give him the time of day. Can you imagine him in any of the great Spurs sides of the past - or playing for the likes of the **** or Chelsea? I thought not.

Great article about his background from last year: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ros-Townsend-England-hero-family-tragedy.html

Looks like August 28th is a significant date for his family, glad he scored last night. Interesting reaction, almost relief.

I'd like to see him stay and offer us something next season. I rate Lennon, and think both him and Townsend are crucial members of the squad in how they can run at people. Lamela is the only other senior player who offed this but they are more direct.

Didn't work for him tonight, bonus points for having the guts to take the penalty (minus to Kane for not demanding it).

Pace is always useful, but it has to have a purpose, is there a player in there somewhere?

I think there is a player in there, but if the system we played against QPR is the way we want to play then he won't be first choice. He's not a big enough goal threat imo and won't find those spaces in the box like Chadli, Lamela and Eriksen will, nor does he strike me as a natural finisher. His direct running style though can be useful when we need a change of tactics as we saw against West Ham where I thought he was very impressive.

From the limited minutes I've seen, someone like Pritchard who is on loan at Brentford is more of a like for like replacement for those three attacking midfielders.

AnDROSS Deadend (yeah, I went there) needs to get his ass out of this club ASAP. I haven't disliked a current Spurs player this much since, hmm, ever. He ranks lower than even the likes of Michael Brown or Ben Thatcher because of how much weaker the side is with him in it.

He has done NOTHING to support the claim that 'there is a player in there'. Get rid, or at the very least do not field him.

I really don't like ranting about our own players, but the decision to try that ****ing turn on the halfway line when Dier was already advanced up the pitch was very poor.

wait ... rodgers outsmarted poch today by double teaming the wings when defending and overloading the centre when attacking. While poch decided to play wide and the full expense of the pitch. not to say he couldn't have done better (e.g. the first goal), but there was something already wrong with the way we set up. of the subs, the dembele one was correct. but attacking through the wings with speed isn't what we needed

Not the performance you'd want to put in the day before the window shuts, knowing that you're possibly on the outer. Wouldn't be too upset if he was sold (with Welbeck coming in.)

Wise after the event etc but i said in August 2013 that we wouldn't be a top 4 team with a player like Townsend occupying such a key position.
He was woeful today. Virtually everyone on this board could have told Levy and Poch one of the key areas to strengthen this summer was LWF - and with little over 24 hours to go it looks like the answer to our prayers will be…..Welbeck. FFS.

Townsend always has been atrocious. He had two good games for England and that's that. Can't bear him and really hope we sell him. Why Lennon was t on the bench I have no idea. This is the problem with too many players.

No he didn't cost us the game but he's still as terrible as ever.
More annoyed with Poch for the sub than anything else.
