Morgan Schneiderlin

What is so difficult to understand in the words "Schneiderlin is not for sale"? Despite our arrogance at thinking smaller teams will bend over and accommodate our bids, that is not how it works. Just like Levy with Modric, the Saints chairman wants to make a statement and he will NOT sell the player this window.

What arrogance?

There has been a lot of discussion from both Spurs and Saints itks to suggest that the deal isn't / wasn't nearly as dead as Krueger and Koeman would have us believe.

So until the window closes, it's only natural that the option is still considered. Nothing arrogant about it.

Absolutely. It is no more arrogant than SCBC bidding for Townsend. I could still see us going in for him again before the window closes.

Decent midfield yes but come on is he really the missing link?

When we lost: Carrick, Keane 1, Berbatov, Modric, Bale we lost a player that truly upset out balance. So when we signed them, we signed a true gem.

I'm not seeing anything in Schneiderlins make to suggest he is as rare and unique as the above.

He's about as close to Carrick as we're likely to get.

I'm waiting for this thread to get filled with angry comments. At the end of the day though, Southampton don't want to sell him and we cant force them to.

You're going to have to provide evidence for this as I've certainly not seen it. Schneiderlin's creative/offensive output over a season is what you'd get from the likes of Fabregas, Ramsey and Yaya in a couple of games. If we're going to blow upwards of £20m on yet another central midfielder(how many have we gone through these past few years?) then I want one with game, not yet another ****ing DM who's "not bad" on the ball, why are we so scared of these players all of a sudden?

I mean just look at how his "creative" and "offensive" game compares to that of Dembele ffs

Schneiderlin just scored as many Premier League goals in 90 minutes as Dembele has in 4047 minutes as Spurs player ;)

@OptaJoe: 2 - In 68 minutes vs West Ham Morgan Schneiderlin has matched his Premier League goal total from last season. Berserk.

Well if Southampton do decide to cash in on their star asset they should be able to add a few £million more to the asking price now... fingers crossed that Capoue and Stambouli go on to make as big an impact in English football...

@GaryLineker: Schneiderlin has scored twice for Saints to give them a 2-1 lead at West Ham. Surprised that no one has made a bid for him in the window!!

Looks like it's probably dead now...

The Frenchman, who scored twice in Saturday's 3-1 win over West Ham, reportedly handed in a transfer request last month amid interest from former boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, and later criticised his club on social media.

Saints chairman Ralph Kruger has insisted the midfielder is not for sale, while manager Ronald Koeman echoed that hardline stance again after victory at Upton Park.

Speaking candidly after the match, Schneiderlin pledged his commitment to Koeman's side while still wearing Southampton colours.

"The situation is I have three years on my contract left," he told Sky Sports News HQ.

"I’m not going to lie about the fact that it was a long summer with a lot of speculation and I was thinking about my future.

"The club refused some offers, they showed me that they wanted to keep me so it’s up to me concentrate and to play my football.

"If the fans or anyone felt that I didn’t respect the club by doing what I did, I want to say that I always respected the fans. They’ve been absolutely amazing with me for the six years that I have been with the team and I have always respected them.

"I just thought about my future. Today my future is at Southampton and if some people are mad at me the best I can do is do my best on the pitch. That’s what I’m trying to do."

As much as I'd like him, good for Soton and good for the player. The club have stood firm and the player was very, very honest in those quotes. he has also, incidentally, not said anything about wanting to remain at Soton.

Actually it's been dead since their chairman went out and said that he would not be sold - just that many poster refused to believe him.

Koeman: "It’s difficult in life to say 100 per cent [if he will stay]. For me, yes, but more like 99 per cent."

So not dead.

On life support maybe.

I'd say that everyone has their price, that we're moving players out, that the price for Schneiderlin is too high and that all have agreed not to peruse for now as the one Poch might feel he really wants in Jan is Jay Rodriguez. We shall see, guessing the outcome of this one is a fool's game!

Gutted! He was the player I have been tracking since the WC. He was awesome today and if he has a great season he will definitely be out of our reach. This was probably our time to get him despite Southampton's protestations. Schneiderlin has also conducted himself the right way which has been a credit to him.

This has got 25 Million deadline day deal written all over it. Poch wants him desperately and he desperately want to come.

Honestly probably a decent player, not the messiah people are making him out to me (only because we can't seem to get him)

Let Poch use what he's got, get a system in place, our squad is young, next year we could buy one or two upgrades for MS type money that are actually worth the $$$

For us it's dead. There are other clubs in existence who might be prepared what they want, someone is even reporting Arsenal are prepared to stump up the 27million...
