Paulinho

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

I think we need to tell him not to come back till September. Have a proper rest and start looking to get back in the team in October. We have enough options to be able to do that.

where would he go? brazil is home but would he or any other brazil player except neymar feel safe/appreciated :)

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

If that bid is true, I dont think it will matter what we think, DL will see the profit and sell. Another £20m towards the ever-growing Stadium fund

Margate? I was thinking physical rest more than mental rest. I'm sure Poch will quickly be able to sort his confidence once his body is back in shape.

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

Who would you replace him with for that amount?

Bender, Khedira, Koke, Kovacic etc would all cost more and have bigger suitors than us.

Do we need to, it was basically like playing with 10 players for most of the time when he was on the pitch last season the mannequin they use is training for shooting past would offer more

I'd go for someone like Clasie. I'd prefer to have someone who can run a game for us in that CM

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

You should go back and watch him in the confederations cup games last summer - especially the one where he was up against Xavi and Iniesta

He was the same there, it's one of the biggest myths around that Paulinho was great at the Confeds, he was just as average as he is now.

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

Soldado, Lamela, Paulinho, Eriksen, Chadli, Capoue, Chiriches...........honestly, who expects every one of those signings to come good? Look at Our own history of transfers, look at every other club, not every transfer comes off! Its impossible

Its no shame to that some transfers fail, the biggest problem is taking too long to accept that the mistake has been made when all the evidence is staring you in the face.

Sometimes you have to go with the head and not the heart.

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

£25m for him would be a fantastic piece of businesss. Substantial profit on a player despite him having a poor season and poor world cup

I really like Claise, but for me he'd be to upgrade on Dembele.

What Paulinho theoretically gives us is a technical yet physical, high-energy box-to-box player who chips in with goals. Claise is a deep sitting ballplayer. The reason Mourinho is so keen on Paulinho is because he's still not found anyone to replace Lampard. That's the type of player we'd need to replace him with too.

How many foreign player have had a difficult first season then gone on to great things once they've acclimatised? Henry being the most famous example.

I want to see what he can do after some rest and with a manager who can instil confidence and give him a role in an organised system. A new arrival is probably going to have a difficult first year too, and we'll be back at this point in a year's time. One of the reasons Poch was appointed was to bring organic growth rather than buy in success - lets see him earn his money.

I'm not sure we need a box to box player if we play 4-2-3-1. Pairing Clasie with wither Sandro, Capoue, Bentaleb or Dembele would be fine for me. Lamela, Eriksen, Konoplyanka behind a striker.

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

I see the biggest supporters of Paulinho suggesting that to get the best out of Paulinho we have to set the team up in 433 formation with our middle 3 consisting of a destroyer, a playmaker, and Paulinho.........how about a destroyer, a playmaker, and Sigurdsson. Are we any word off with Sig in that formation and not Paulinho?

I'm not saying I want this formation, its just an observation that even with the apparent ideal way of incorporating Paulinho we can actually do fine without him and with Sig in his place and we would be 20 mill richer.

Oh and Sigurdsson is another example of a player we are still waiting to see the best from. How many of these players can we carry.

Paulinho will never be someone we can't do without. He is not the player that will elevate us to a higher level. He is just a simple midfielder able to do a bit of everything and that's only when he is on top of his game.

Isn't that another myth? Henry scored 26 goals(17 league) in his first season with Arsenal. The thing with Paulinho is at no point have I seen a great deal of talent in him, even during his "high point" of the confederations cup I thought he looked bang average, everything about him is so laboured and limited. I've never seen a central midfielder so uninvolved in the game, all he's there for his to jog around and hope to pick up the scraps in the box but even then his finishing is hardly clinical. Add all of that onto his laziness off the ball and cowardly ducking out of challenges and shots(West Ham), I really struggle to see anything in him. The thought of getting £20m for him blows my mind.

My concern with that would be the lack of mobility/link between the back 6 and the front 4.

Poch's system last year was to have one DM (Wanyama) and one deep ballplayer (Schneiderlin) in his two. But instead of having his #10 central of the three, he played him on the left (Lallana) and had a Paulinho-esque player in the middle of the three (Davis).

If we did replicate Soton's system, the closest fit we'd have would be:

------Eriksen----------------------Lamela
------------------Paulinho

-------------Sandro---Capoue

------Lallana----------------------Rodriguez
---------------------Davis

------------Wanyama---Schneiderlin

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

I'd like to see all last years buys get another season under settled management, but getting back what we paid for Paulinho, I think I'd take that and give our new manger some pochet money.
He showed what he is capable of against Stoke but I just can't see him being consistent and the fact he never settled his last time in Europe raises doubts he will this time.

Haha, Pochet money :)

Re: Official MKII- Paulinho

That midfield looks very unappealing, hope Nabil isn't just tossed away because he didn't come from Brazil with a big price tag, he's very talented. Also Jay Rod played left all season but that's a minor point.

Put Sigurdsson, or heck even Chadli in that position instead of Paulinho. Seriously, would we be any worse off?
