Cycling thread

Been reading cavs new book and im alarmed to hear he did not even bother doing any sprint training last winter because he never got beat in sprints. I love the guy and i mean really love him as i told him to his face in Nice this year (he seemed properly scared by this) but i do wonder if what makes a sportsman great is there will to win and when that goes even just a little they lose an edge.

This is huge.
Rogers was Wiggo's roommate at Sky the year he won the Tour. He dragged him up every mountain that year.

Cant wait to hear Wiggo's bull**** response to this.

This only a few days after Sky's Jonathan Tiernan-Locke is being done for fluctuations in his blood profile.

Im no wiggins fan or defender of sky but that has Bruyneels grubby little hands all over it.

Rodgers has been done before has he not?

I am not saying sky are clean but i have a very low opinion of Bruyneel it was funny reading his statement online when he said he was done with cycling and retiring. Only because Armstrong on his weird revenge mission was going to completely burn him.

I'm surprised it's taken them this long, it's been pretty obvious for a long time that British cycling were onto something

What we need to do in this country to make sure it is not just a one off or a golden age for cycling is to increase the amount of youngsters getting race practise which is why we need better help from police in closing some country roads on a sunday morning, for what would be a few hours, for this to happen we need more volunteers to offer their time.

I am a member of a cycling club locally and am down to help with races but when ever we put forward plans to have races on a Sunday morning closing roads for 8am to 11am we meet opposition and red tape from councils the highway agency and the police. We had a plan for a circuit recently of 40 miles it would have resulted in rolling road blocks that myself and some other volunteers would have put out.

The plan was for the men to leave at 8am the woman at 8.30am then an under 21 group of men leaving at 9.00am the are not enough women for an under 21 womens group. Then an under 16's group doing a 20 mile circuit leaving at 9.30am.

You should have seen the paperwork involved even though this was country roads on a sunday morning and we had diversion routes for traffic. The needs to be a change in attitudes in this country if we want to continue our recent road success. We need to widen the pool of talent we have available to us. Trust me the councils and the police are against us though.

I agree, I live in Epping and there are loads of clubs around, every weekend there are hundreds of people on the roads and regular aggro between car and bike (I'm on both sides of that argument, idiots on all forms of transport) but the bigger local races which only use smaller roads would benefit massively.

I've also done a few of the charity rides where they do close a lot of roads on the route and it's such a nicer environment to ride in.

Been a bad tour of Dubai for Cavendish, he always starts the season slowly and over weight but looking at how lean and efficient Kittel is maybe it is a German thing but he looks very very professional.

Think cav might have to settle for scraps i know he said he wont do the Giro this year to be stronger for the tour and also the lead out train is not settled in yet but this is a worrying start to the season for Omega.

My other favourite rider Tony Martin looked ****ed as well, wonder what Omega riders do in the off season.

Got 30 miles in yesterday first ride of they year after a niggling injury beautiful feeling can't wait for April now

I folded my business down as it seemed like a massive waste of time, now all i seem to be doing is riding, not even counting miles anymore a lot of the time i just cruise and not really having an aim. Being on my bike on the road is the greatest stress relief i know and makes me a better calmer person.

Glad your back on the bike, days like today there is nothing better then rolling through the countryside.

need to get out on mine, its been house bound for months, i'm a real fair weather cyclist

Good year for cycling with the giro coming to Italy and the Tour coming to England. Only problem is more dingdonghead cyclists on the road. I love it when i see a youngster in the cycle gear instead of replica football kits. My lad don't like either sport sadly.

I live in epping forest, always dingdonghead cyclists on the road, looking forward to the tour, coming right past my house, a few of us are gonna take the day of work, cycle some of it in the morning and have a bbq whilst we watch them come through.

As long as he's into some kind of Sport and not stuck in front of the computer all day... Is he still playing Tennis?

Looking forward to the Tour coming through this summer.. Will be good to maintain it's popularity in a non Olympic year.

Yeah he does the Tennis well remembered i seem to spend half my life driving him about for that but i enjoy it even if my accent does not really fit in with the other parents. At Easter he is doing a sailing week with his school, they actually teach sailing at his school:rolleyes: The kid thinks school is hard and boring but honestly he does not know he's born none of his generation do.

Where you at? are you in Ireland will you watch the Tour come through your way? going to be interesting to see who wins it. From the reports i have read in the close season cav will only race the first week and bow out at the Mountains to keep him fresh for the Tour.

If wiggins goes at it full pelt he will be no use for Froome in the Tour but then i guess that might be some of the appeal of the Giro to Wiggins.

Brailsford is going to help the England football squad with their preparations for the world cup in the summer

Brailsford is good not GHod, no one can help England football team. Reminds me of when the Rugby guy Woodwood was it? did the same thing. The only thing i can see Brailsford help is the fitness. Even his tactics when Sky or team GB race in classics is questionable. He is a tour coach only really.

They have destroyed Geriant Thomas who had such great potential and really could be a great ride. This said i do like Brailsford and think he has been good for British cycling but not sure what he will bring to the table for Englishh football.
