Benitez is under pressure at Napoli. Wouldn't be a bad call, actually.

1) Plays a direct, attacking game, which would suit the cloggers we currently call our 'technical' central midfielders (Dembele, Paulinho) and our speedy but somewhat brainless wingers (Townsend, Lennon, Chadli).

2) Is a proven success in the Premier League, first with Liverpool and then with Chelsea last year.

3) Has experience (i.e, won't look like he's on the verge of angry tears when one of his players gets sent off).

4) Would majorly **** off the gloating Scousers. :)

AVB would probably be best served going back to Portugal or perhaps to La Liga and re-learning how to effectively deploy the high line and how to implement his tactics properly.

Didn't Benitez end up having the exact same problems breaking down worse teams at Anfield that we have had at WHL for years now? Wasn't he known as too negative?

No doubt the man can win trophies, he's superb at that but I'm not sure how well our fans would take to him either tbh.

7 pages!!!??

i am far from impressed with the guy but no way he deserves to be sacked. a good hiding in the media channels sure ...but sacked? no way

It's the short termism in my own head that's killing me. It's hard to look beyond those horrendous three results. Then you have to think about the manner of the defeats and the style of football. It's been bad. I've made plenty of excuses and I've always remained behind the manager, as I've said I really like AVB and what he stands for.

But I back him to make sure the team never repeats what happened v City again. But for it to happen again against a rival for a top 4 spot in front of our own fans well it's difficult to see how he manages to sufficiently motivate and succeed in his tactical set up.

I'd love him to turn this around, but can we be sure we won't see this again when we go to Anfield, or OT, or stamford bridge or when City and Arsenal visit us? I'm not sure.

Bale was our talisman, having him on the pitch gave us belief. That we could win at any time on any occasion. Now we don't have leadership or a talisman to look to. We look like a team on the pitch that when things start going wrong we have no idea how to address it. (Against decent sides at least).

I want AVB to stay inside. But I want to see better football, an improvement, and never ever ever ever again to see us humiliated like this again when we've invested so heavily in the side.

****, even Pulis probably doesn't ever get hammered like this.

Hoddle might do it

Nearly everyone suggested would be a worse manager for us than AVB. Knee-jerk central, its good to be back.

Wouldn't want any of those at my club. Laudrup seems a cool guy but I really don't rate him as a manager, I really don't. I find it laughable that he's apparently high up on the list of future Barcelona managers, like really!?

I wouldn't want Capello. I just want someone who will stay at the club for years. Capello will be here a year or two and be gone. Maybe that is what we need though? Someone to almost lay the groundwork, stay here a few years, win us a few things, perhaps make us some sort of contenders?

Hoddle? No thank you. Same with Enrique. Poccettinho? Seriously? He has Southampton playing good football, well they press well. But some people seem to forget that they were playing good football under Atkins too. I doubt he will leave Southampton anyway regardless.

Sherwood? If he takes over, I'll give up football.

Re: Capello at the game tonight

Does anyone even think Levy has anyone planned?

He can't have thought things would go bad with AVB. Everything seemed so positive on the whole. Thing is outside of these results this season:

West Ham (h) 0-3
Saudi Sportswashing Machine (h) 0-1
City (a) 0-6
Liverpool (h) 0-5

...the rest of the season has actually been decent! football does my nut in

You will find very, very, very few people who agree with you right now. Hence the 7 pages. The way it stands, we are looking at a five or six goal defeat whenever we play one of the top six. Don't know if that's acceptable to you, but it certainly isn't to me.

I'm all for giving him this season, but I cannot deny that a big part of me would be relieved if he went today or tomorrow. We cannot afford to continue bringing this ****. We have had zero improvement from the first game of the season: in fact, we've actively regressed. That is horrific coming from a wonder-boy manager who we entrusted with the better part of 100 million f*cking pounds.

Sorry but that s way over the top. Sure the Emirates Marketing Project game was awful but in this one we was making a game of it at 2-0 until the red card. Im not using it as an excuse but there was no way we would have conceded close to 5 with 11 men. But we still had to go for it but with a man down there was just too much space we left behind that got exploited. Everton,Man U,Chelsea have failed to beat us and Arsenal did by a single goal so I dont think we're looking at a 5/6 goal bashing everytime at all...

Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Knows the PL, plays offensive football. Get in. (hah, just kidding) ;)

I really don't know who could/should take over. I was thinking Mancini for a while, not knowing he had gotten the job at Galatasaray. I certainly don't think Benitez is a bad call, but I'm not familiar with what sort of football he likes to play. It's beyond me why anyone would want Hoddle back in, what's the reasoning behind that? Bielsa is just a mad-man, could be fun, but I doubt it would be a good long-term solution.

The best thing would probably be to get a caretaker manager. Give Freund a chance, perhaps.

And I dont know to what extent its been discussed but Walker would be the only first choice of our back 4 if everyone was fit who played today up against arguably the best striker in the world. I wouldnt get rid of AVB yet, its a long and funny season - judge at the end of it....

Nearly everyone suggested would be a worse manager for us than AVB. Knee-jerk central, its good to be back.

Hardly knee jerk. This result - actually the last few games (yes wooohoo we beat the bottom two clubs) were coming, they were a culmination of our poor defense, abject stagnant midfield and ineffective less than creative forward play. AVB has shown no signs of changing his ****ty philosophy. I keep on hearing this 'theory' unfortunately football is not based on papers, books and theory but based on the pitch. I have a theory to rule the world - but not gonna work in practice.
