Roberto Soldado

Re: Official - Soldado

So far has looked an extremity limited player technically. Does not do anything particularly well apart from penalties. Missed a glaring chance to day.

Can't beat a man, can't turn, can,t score from a,long shot, can't head very well. He may be a good finsiher [ has not been so far ] , but we need a lot more than that.

Re: Official - Soldado

Roberto Soldado admits his form has not been up to scratch since moving to England, but the Tottenham striker is confident he will start scoring more goals soon.

Much had been expected of Soldado (above) when Spurs shelled out £26million for the striker from Valencia in the summer.

The 28-year-old started promisingly, scoring two match-winning penalties, and a brace in the Europa League.

But he has scored two goals since - with one of them coming again from the penalty spot.

Soldado conceded that he is still trying to adapt to how the team play, but he believes everything will start clicking soon.

"I have scored six goals but I would like to score many more," Soldado said. "I am a realist and I know that on the pitch I am not happy with everything.

"I am not combining with my team-mates how I would like but I know I am very close. I'm striving to get to top form and play at 100 per cent. I am convinced that I am almost there.

"I don't want to stop scoring goals, that's why Tottenham signed me. I'm not 100 per cent but the manager has put his faith in me end he is giving me minutes. Scoring more goals for this team is my target.

"I have scored decisive goals that have won matches, they might have been penalties, but I want more and the manager wants more and that is what I want to give to the fans."

The Spaniard scored more than 20 goals in each of his three seasons at Valencia, and his track record at Osasuna, Getafe, and Real Madrid is also impressive.

But, just like many other foreign players who come to the Premier League, a period of adjustment both on and off the pitch is required.

Although Soldado spoke on this occasion through an interpreter, his grasp of the English language is improving, and his family are also beginning to settle in London too.

There is one aspect of life in particular which has changed dramatically over the last few months, though.

"The first thing that people tell you when you make a change like this is about the weather," Soldado told Spurs TV.

"Valencia has 10 or 11 months of sun and here's the opposite - there's only two or three months, but you have to look at the positives as well from this. I only look at the positives."

Another thing Soldado will have to get used to is the lack of a winter break this Christmas.

"It's going to be different," Soldado said.

"Before I used to spend Christmas with my family, now I am going to spend it with my team-mates.

"But I think it's nice because the fans, who are in my opinion, the most important part of football, can enjoy so many matches.

"It's important that the children can come to matches. It's nice for them to enjoy the environment."

Re: Official - Soldado

nice attitude from Soldado =D>

i just hope the chances start flowing for him asap and he begins banging in goals from open play

Re: Official - Soldado

What's another version then? That Benteke really really wanted to come but we wouldn't pay that much money for him?

that could be one version, I mean Spurs may have thought anything over 25 mill was too much....not too hard to believe is it

or maybe Benteke wasnt wanted by Avb? He preferred Soldado

Re: Official - Soldado

I wish Roberto Soldado was Christian Benteke.

We'd be playing a hell of a lot worse football if that was the case. Benteke and high-possession box-probing isn't a pretty thought. Ibrahimovic at Barca springs to mind.

I think that was very likely to be the case. AVB's first choice was clearly David Villa. Shifting from Villa to Benteke to Soldado just doesn't make sense - Benteke's very much the odd one out. I suspect it was just a good deal we got offered that tempted Levy more than anyone.

To be honest it sounded like we agreed to be used to allow Benteke to get a new contract from Villa - and not because we really wanted him. If we rated him that much we would have paid what we paid for Soldado for him, especially since he was the younger option.

I'm hopeful we get a favour off of Benteke's agent in the future - anyone know what other clients he has on his books?

Soldado - a shambles

How he has avoided intense criticism is beyond me.

I understand he's not suited to a lone striker role and I understand the inverted wingers is a problem, but...

1. If things aren't going well, you work your balls off to make something. He makes no effort. There's no chasing, no harrying. He just stands around looking moody.

2. His movement is just not good. It's outrageous that people think his movement is good - utter delusion.

3. His touch is terrible. There is no concept of him bringing it down quickly and laying it off in one motion.

4. He is amazingly slow. It is bewildering.

5. He is amazingly weak. He better be hitting that gym.

What we have is an old, slow, weak striker, who has a poor touch and poor application.

Yes, the club deserve a lot of criticism for bringing in someone who's the antithesis of what we need, but my GHod, put some effort in, son.

Re: Soldado - a shambles

i see him making runs, he even comes deep, he doesnt just goal hang.......

but yeah, why did we sign him when we had Defoe. Same can be said of Lamela and Paulinho. Would have been better relying on Townsend and Thudd.

imagine not spending 65-70 mill on Soldado, Lamela and Paulinho. I dont think we would have been any worse off with Defoe, Townsend and Thudd
