Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

David Hytner seems to be driving a lot of the Guardian's Bale coverage and he seems to be quite the snide individual.
I do not appreciate his poisonous little jabs, assertions and digs. Far more suited to a gutter tabloid like the Star.

Re: Gareth Bale

So Florida is what 5 hours behind and the paper first of all knows about a meeting including what was discussed allegedly almost immediately afterwards yet has no quotes - yeah right.

Someone close to the situation is feeding them - guarenteed. I'm not saying that means the Guardian has all the facts, they are just reporting what someone who wants this move to happen wants them to report.

Re: Gareth Bale

He came across as weak to me. Unless the plan is for some influential people in the club to show understanding to Bale so that he isn't too angered when he doesn't get his move, then I would much prefer it that everyone toes the party line. Why should our chairman, manager, exec director etc all say he won't be sold for any price only for one of the senior guys to say that it might be best because we can't force him to stay? How weird a thing to say is that? We did it 2 years ago with Modric, and Bale hasn't caused half the problems he had.

Doesn't quite add up though does it - Levy putting out an official line that Bale is not for sale full stop whilst spending hours negotiating. If he's genuinely not for sale why talk to Perez?

Re: Gareth Bale

Does not matter how impressive she sounds, Levy is the one doing the negotiating, that is what counts. Donna does not have a say in the matter

I thought no negotiations or meetings were taking place as per AVB's comments a few days ago. Unless we need to repeat that he's not for sale this summer.

To keep Bale onside as much as possible so that when he stays, he is ready to play well?

I don't really know, I just think that what we say from Levy with Modric, is that he is determined to build a team. I think he doesn't see us as a selling club and is fed up of being bullied into selling players just as we are on the cusp of something. He knows that everytime we do, we take 2 steps back before coming close again.

So I think he wants to keep Bale at all costs, and with our transfer history I'm not really confident we'd agree a fee in time enough for us to replace him. That therefore means the deal won't make sense to us, because the club seems to have earmarked this season to make a real go of things. Signing the likes of Soldado and Pailinho while selling Bale doesn't make sense.

I really think he is meeting Perez out of respect for Madrid, and out of respect for Bale and his family, to ensure that he can't be seen to be stubbornly blocking a big move and is at least considering it. But I don't think it's in his interest at all to sell, and he knows that.

Re: Gareth Bale

Apparently Daniel Levy has asked if Franco Baldini knows anything about some rather hefty charges on his credit card during his holiday.

£17,000,000 to Corinthians, £7,000,000 to FC Twenty, £25,900,000 to Valencia and £8,600,000 awaiting approval to Toulouse.

Are they actually spending hours negotiating?
Really, what is there to talk about at this early stage.
If we even assume that the papers are correct and Madrid really have made big offers of over £80 mill (I'm not convinced) Levy has still told them it's insufficient.
That doesn't take hours.
The time consuming bit is when both parties are very close to a deal and are sorting out values of add-ons, repayment terms and other minutae.
I don't think we're close to that point so conversation is pretty black and white right now

Re: Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale's looming transfer from Tottenham 'isn't going down well in Real Madrid's dressing room'

Stars' positive public comments about the Welshman reportedly turn into 'What do we need him for?' style grumbles in private

Gareth Bale faces walking into a potential Real Madrid dressing room backlash which could turn his “dream” move sour.

Bale’s seemingly impending transfer to the Bernabeu is dependent on Spurs chairman Daniel Levy negotiating a world record deal that satisfies the north Londoners.

But while the Welshman is set on moving to arguably the most glamorous team in the game, he may find fewer friendly faces in the Spanish capital than he leaves behind at White Hart Lane.

Claims from Spain are suggesting the public welcome mat that has been rolled out by Bale’s potential team-mates is not being matched by their attitudes behind closed doors.

It was reported that Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos - the dressing room leaders who effectively forced out coach Jose Mourinho this summer after a season of spats - are among the senior players unimpressed by president Florentino Perez’s dogged pursuit of Bale.

According to the claims, the internal dissent surfaced during a dinner at a Spanish restaurant in Los Angeles during Real’s current pre-season tour of the US.

Players and directors of the Spanish giants were all present when Bale’s name came up as a topic for discussion.

One source reported: “One of the senior players said that he was surprised that Perez was willing to pay so much for one player and another asked, ‘What about us?’

“A third player was adamant that Bale was not needed, and that the squad Carlo Ancelotti already has is strong enough without him.”

Reports had Casillas, Ramos and Portuguese defender Fabio Coentrao - the latter is understood to have been suggested by Real as a possible makeweight in the deal - as the loudest dissenting voices.

The fact that Cristiano Ronaldo also hinted at his discontent at losing his title as the world’s most expensive player is another element that may confront the Spurs wide-man.

Ronaldo remains the star of the show at Real, and voices were allegedly raised suggesting that such money should be spent on him - having proven himself over four years at the club - rather than on a player who has only one Champions League campaign under his belt.

Whether the reports, accurate or not, will put Bale off his apparent destiny is unclear and certainly Perez seems determined to get his man.

Real sources are insisting that he had contacted Levy by telephone to set up a meeting in Miami - where the Tottenham chairman has a family home, and where the Spanish giants played Chelsea in a Wednesday friendly.

Spurs stuck to the public line that Bale is not for sale, although it does seem they would listen to an offer in excess of £85million plus Real's Spain Under-21 striker Alvaro Morata.

Bale was at Spurs’ training headquarters on Wednesday.

While he has been named in the Wales squad for next week’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland, he is not expected to be fit for either Tottenham's final pre-season game, against Espanyol, on Saturday or the international.

LOL

Did he say to Perez -pop in to see me about that deal if you are in the manor?

Indeed. I've no clue if this meeting took place or not, but lets say it did for argument sake. To me that says Bale is for sale and it's just the price they are haggling over.

So as you say, if he is not for sale then what would be the point?

Cadena Ser: "Levy & Perez HAVE NOT met yet to talk about Bale". Well done Guardian! What a joke of an article & with quotes LOL!!

Re: Gareth Bale

Tottenham and Real Madrid have held a fresh round of talks over a proposed world record transfer deal for Gareth Bale, although the two clubs remain fully £18 million apart in their respective valuations.

Daniel Levy and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez had direct talks last night in Miami, where the Tottenham Hotspur chairman is holidaying and the Spanish team is on tour, but there was only limited progress in what was their second set of negotiations.

Perez slightly upped his initial offer to £86 million (€100 million) but Levy reiterated his valuation of £104 million (€120 million). Either fee would shatter the existing world record transfer fee of £80 million that was paid by Madrid to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

The issue of Real Madrid players being included as part of the deal was also raised but, Pérez remains reluctant to include Spain Under-21 international Álvaro Morata in any deal. There are also differences between their valuations of of Madrid players. Levy, though, will only do business if he is satisfied that the Spurs squad would be improved by any deal and is mindful that money in the bank will be of no use on the football pitch next season.

That is why he has been interested in Morata, one of the outstanding young players in Europe, being included in any deal. Levy has also already sanctioned significant spending this summer, with Toulouse midfielder Étienne Capoue about to join Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Nacer Chadli as another incoming transfer. Madrid have been in Miami over recent days for last night’s International Champions Cup final against Chelsea while Levy has a home in Florida. Tottenham had previously indicated that they were not willing to hold further talks unless there was a significantly improved offer and the next step is now unclear.

Levy is renowned for being one of the toughest negotiators in football. His willingness to again speak with Pérez, however, appears to suggest that he is ready to sell at the right price.

Re: Gareth Bale

I would love Levy and co, when this is all over to make a complaint to the press association. If this meeting did not take place that they can prove that certain people were in certain other places and not having this meeting we could IMO sue. Consider this, say with Bale we could have got 20m a year shirt sponsorship, but because of the constant media lies interested companies were scared off because of the flimflam lies. Say right now that Levy is in Bermuda having lunch with Joe Lewis. What does it say about the Guardian & Telegraph (two of the more respected rags) is it any better making up stories than hacking a phone to get a story.

Re: Gareth Bale

i still believe bale is going. fake injury, total silence, conflicting but unrelenting noise from the press. and our ability to freely invest in the transfer market.

Re: Gareth Bale

There's a new story contradicting the last every other day. English media is fudging dreadful.
