Roberto Soldado

You based your opinion on Madrid preferring Higuain

I'm telling you Madrid haven't got a clue based on your reasoning.. Otherwise if you we're right why continually look to replace Higuain with the list I mentioned.

Soldado left because he was not a Galatico... not because Higuain was better, Soldado was brought through the ranks and didn't have the big money mystique Madrid presidents yearn.. Raul was also keeping him out of the side... Not Higuain.

Can you honestly not see the difference.I mean lets go with your list...who was in the list again

Ruud Van Nisterlooy = Sold before Higuain

Adebayor = sold before Higuain

Huntelaar = Sold before Higuain

How in your mind were Madrid looking to replace higuain when he was still getting games and they didn't sell him. They stuck with him when he was young and trusted him to play big games WHILST SELLING SOLDADO. I mean they decided to pick a 18/19 year old Higuain over Soldado who was 3 year older because they thought he was a better player, despite being younger. Hell they sold 3 of the 5 players that in your mind "replaced Higuain".

Well they would have struggled to sell Adebayor, with him only being there on loan.. :p

Baldini and Capello sent him on loan to gain experience and he came back and signed an extended deal. Capello was then sacked for political reasons. IMO Soldado didn't make it because he wasn't a Galatico.. Same reason Negredo didn't make it.

So wait.... ok just so i understand what you're saying. Soldado and negredo didn't make it because they were not Galacticos? so how did Higuain make it (you realise he isn't a Galactico either?)

well obviously resale isn't a deciding factor in the move for Soldado - we're buying a player who we expect to hit the ground running and prove his transfer fee by helping the team reach it's goals

you would have to have a low margin of error for something like 25 mill being justified by making CL. So its basically like this "Yo AVB , we give you solly that mean CL aaiiieeet!!"

i can imagine paying 25 million for etoo even when he was 30 years old. marekting, branding , household name and talent....yep sign him. I cant see that soldado

im not sure i follow mate? that's how we do things (as far as i am aware) look back at the last few times we spent big in one or two windows and then look at our financial reports for the following years - we spend big on paper if all is paid up front in one go but in reality the deals are spread out and serviced over the coming seasons. it makes perfect sense and allows us to spend money we don't physically have laying around but can manage based on our revenue

no no, i'm talking about doing that because you threw money at a player that's hit his ceiling and is probably on downward road as far as valuation goes

when we spend big, look at how old they are and how we potentially could have predicted a higher value as their careers went on with us

I dont think this deal will go through. I think it has all the hallmarks of the big failed deals of recent times like Moutinho, Rossi, Mata, Arshavin. I think we will fail to agree a fee and we're already hearing the kind of rhetoric that other clubs dealing with us on potentially big deals have come out with. Just seems too big and complicated with lots of installments, payments, figures znd add-ons. Just too much to disagree on! Will be shocked if this goes through.

this is true - however our very apparent interest is a sign that things are changing for us, imv - we wouldn't be in for Soldado unless we planned on spending big (be that 18 mil or 25) as it's obvious to all that it is what it would take in order to get him.

unless of course we want to go down the tin foil hat brigrade and say it's all one big ruse to kid us in to thinking e're making the effort

Yes he was.. 12m for a teenage superstar from River plate is different to a player that joined from a small non league side at 15.

hmmmm no he wasn't a galactico...are you now tweaking the description of the term galactico to suit your argument? jesus christ.

that was the idea with Bentley but look how that turned out. Over 27 mill in total, transfer fee and wages, down the plughole. there are no guarantees

a different example, we signed Ade for 5 mill, wow what a transfer fee bargain, but it looks like we have signed brick Ade who now we will find hard to get rid of. no guarantees

Ok he isn't Galatico in terms of Zidane or Figo.. But in terms of buying one of the best prospects he was, definitely in comparison to Soldado's timeline at Madrid.

Higuain has had the best talent surround him at Madrid, whereby Valencia have seen players over and again leave. Soldado would out perform and out score Higuain if he was still at Madrid.

Two pages of absolute nonsense. Not because none of you are correct or incorrect but because NONE of us know the financial situation. How can anyone make an informed decision based on... errr.. no information?

Who said we cant afford £25m?
When was this said?

No one has said anything. Its a bit like someone speaking for me saying (out of thin air) 'DHSF cannot afford a new car' when infact I fudgein well can. I just choose not to and until I need one and the car is fascinating then ill go buy it.

Who died and made everyone Levy?

ps - the chances are Higuain will command double what Soldado would reportedly get at Spurs its that recurring expenditure that we couldnt afford. One off payments? who knows.

we can speculate on the information we do have available - like financial reports for example.

no one knows what AVB is thinking for next season but we all speculate judging by the info we have available - what's the difference?

He isn't a galactico period..not in terms of FIgo, Zidane or any other big name signing you want to name. Higuain is NOT A GALACTICO and that's a fact so please don't tweak things in order to suit your argument.

The second part i won't even respond to because you're jumping onto another point (yet again) and it's quite tiresome being that we can't prove it either way anyway.

Nonsense is a harsh word but ultimately we are football fans and finally we may spend big on someone who is established and in their prime to help us achieve our amitions and we talk about finances. Our job isnt in the board room thats the job of Levy et al.

I speculate too and nothing wrong with it - its great and I also enjoyed the last two pages BUT it seems that there is a bit of 'fact' flying around ie we will not spend £20m on a player (sorry Afrian) but that is gonad*s. We have already bid over £20m so that 'fact; already falls flat. Speculation is one thing but talking about our finances as if theyre fact just leads people down a spiral staircase.

DHSF - finances are part and parcel of modern football and id say for any supporter who wants to have a real grasp of the club and where we can go/what our goals are etc it's important to have an understanding of the finances involved - there's enough info out there for anyone to make themselves aware if they want to do so. otherwise we'd all be sitting around permenantly tinkled that we aren't buying Messi and Ronaldo every window
