Pretty much what I said in the McCarthy thread, except I had Carroll going out on loan in the hope of getting regular game time (to a lower-ranked Premiership side if possible).

my issue with this theory is that it suggest McCarthy would get limited (20ish) game time at THFC (ie if he/Carroll were the same status in the squad), so the £ we spend on him seems like a bit of a waste when we could keep Carroll and give him 20ish games across the season (Lge and 3 cups)

i would prefer to see us keep Carroll instead let him develop in our team, system and set up.

I'll be honest, from what I've seen of both players, I think McCarthy is *currently* significantly better than Carroll. Don't get me wrong, if Carroll fulfils his potential he'll be a great player. But I think he needs a season as a regular starter for a Premiership club under his belt, before he's ready to play a major role in a title challenge. I genuinely feel McCarthy might be ready to make that step up. Others can disagree about that, and maybe we'll find out, maybe we won't. But right now, I'd play McCarthy ahead of Carroll. Might not be the case in a year or two; but McCarthy's value isn't going to drop any time soon and I really think this could be a big season for us.

Week-in-week-out at Norwich or Crystal Palace would do Carroll a lot more good from a development perspective, than a handful of premiership substitute appearances and a bunch of cup games.

As would most people. However, if its in a run-in for 3rd/4th place which of the two is best placed to play those games? I'd say McCarthy is and perhaps that is why the deal is being talked about.

Perfect sense to me

It's perfect sense to have a pool of

7 central midfielders (actually 10 central midfielders being that we haven't actually sold Parker, Livermore and Huddlestone) vying for 3 spots

2 strikers vying for 1 spot

and Lennon not having any competition (well Townsend but he'll most probs be on the other side)

To me i think it's overkill and it's the most bizzare signing i've seen in a long time (and i rate Mccarthy). How about we conclude a deal for positions we actually need to strengthen desperately before signing back up cm's.

I'm sure that we are capable of working on more than one transfer at a time.

that only applies in Levy time on deadline day

re; McCarthy - i have to honest, im not convinced by his ability. looks like a mid table player to me. that said, i havnt seen a huge amount of him, so maybe ive missed some of his finer points

Let's judge them at the end of the window rather than three weeks in

Bob Dylan - Joey - from the Desire album. Great song, great album.

Indeed, outstanding lyrically.

"What time is it" said the judge to Joey when they met
"Five to ten" said Joey. The judge says, "That's exactly what you'll get".

Love the album as an entire piece.

He did ten years in Attica, reading Nietzche and Wilhelm Reich
They threw him in the hole one time for trying to stop a strike
His closest friends were black men 'cause they seemed to understand
What it's like to be in society with a shackle on your hand.

No wonder I love it :) Never noticed that before (Reich).
