What does AVB and the board need to do to make us better callengers next season?

Which pales in comparison to wages. Of clubs below us Stoke have the biggest net expenditure on transfers over the past five seasons at £80m, compared to our £7.5m. So they've out-spent us by £72.5m, now add in the wage bill difference between the clubs(currently £37m) and multiply that by five you get £185m. Now minus the difference in transfer fees spent and we've still out-spent them by £112.5m. The same theme applies to all the other clubs bar Liverpool who have frittered away money for fun over the past few years.
It's because pundits don't know what they're talking about 90% of the time, but they have a familiar face and sound confident so people buy it.

AVB needs to do more of the same - drink in the experiences of this year and try to learn from some mistakes.
The board have loads to consider in builing up the club/stadium trying to find players who can improve us.
We could really do with doing a villa and finding a Benteke bargain type striker.........
We cant compete for the big big players so we need to unearth a gem of a creative mid and a gem of a cf.
looking forward to return of rose & townsend (good loan spells)
I think we have the numbers (apart from cf position) but lack the little extra quality.
Benny Parker Livermore Bentley Hudd Defoe Ade outbound gallas need to be upgraded but easier said than done.
Here goes ....... ISCO from Malaga if we can get him we have some player...immense....... & Shane long yes I know some might cain me but I think he has decent MOVEMENT and technique and could score goals for us. if not Lisandro from lyon is a cheap & effective option.

very circumstantial until you put him in our side to see what he could do.
I think he has the potential to improve us and score goals if he gets the service.
and more importantly this is a realistic transfer target with potential sell on value unlike Villa.
You never know he could be the next Robbie keane....lol

that was said tongue in cheek. actually i wouldnt mind 10-15 goals a season.....would make a big difference assuming bale stays and he can match last seasons heroics.
none of us can actually prove that shane long wouldnt score 20 goals next season for us. my point is he's a realistic target and could flourish at spurs with decent service. good movement technically astute. and I think he would offer more than defoe/ade and has prem experience and would be tempted to come to us.
cheaper option than benteke though i would prefer benteke.

I think Long may actually be the exact type of striker AVB would like too, good movement and focused on sticking it in the back of the net. Not a bad call.

He works harder than both our strikers, and is probably more dangerous atm than Defoe, who's lost quite a bit of pace over the last few months.

I cant think of a single player we have bought where the world has thought he's world class.....ok klinsmann.
what I mean is that we dont sign players that are deemed world class.....thats for bigger players in financial world than us.....
we are looking to sign very talented players and attempt to make them world class.
I wish we could blow everyone out of the water and land falcao, isco, neymar but its never going to happen.
we sign players like sig and hope they reach the next level....
so with that in mind I think Long is far more likely than Villa or Damiao.
and yes I think he's an upgrade.
a young hungry striker with potential......yes please.
