OT: What next for Harry?

Re: Harry Redknapp

I think if we were to finish above Chelsea this season, people will fall over themselves to give credit to AVB. They have a better team than us this season, but they also did last season.

Hope they'll still give him some credit even if we finished 5th. Because of how things are unfolding we could be heading for some major disappointment, but overall we've probably overachieved slightly this season.

Re: Harry Redknapp

Shall we just skip the next part then because it's unlikely we will agree?

Where would the fun in that be?

:D

Chelsea were poor across the board last season in the league, players/coaches/whoever - not sure why you struggle to get your head around tgat if you had seen them. They were brick and finishing anywhere but above them would have been a tremendus failure. Imv

I think 5th place finish this season is very good. I think we're maybe better than Arsenal but there isn't much in it and we probably are the 5th best team in the Premiership. If we finish above that then AVB deserves the credit and if we finish 5th then it's still doing a great job.

Re: Harry Redknapp

No I call it how I see it. We have not had a prolonged period of poor form at any point this season. Instead we've had minor wobbles where we might have dropped points a couple of times. Only real disappointments for me result wise were Wigan & Fulham at home. All other results were understandable given the circumstances. Just after we went 7 points clear we had injuries to key players which forced changes in personnel and formation. One of the games we "dropped" points in was Everton a top 4 rival where we had to play without 3 of our first choice midfield, our best striker and best defende. We played well and deserved our draw.

Norwich, WBA and Saudi Sportswashing Machine came about as levy hadn't signed the players we needed we had to start with no Dembele and Livermore in midfield ffs

Had Bale not been the exceptional player he has been this season, then this discussion would be very different. But that for me was also the difference with us and Arsenal last season. We were better than them but for one player, Van Persie and because of Van Persie they finished above us. This year, Bale has been our Van Persie dragging us up when we have played poorly, digging us out when we have played poorly. Last season, no one dug us out when we needed it. Indeed I remember us dominating games and not being able to stick the ball in the back of the net!

My problem is there is a lot of history being re-written. People were coating AVB on here when he was at Chelsea, now he's at Spurs, it's because they had an old/poor side? They still had enough world class players to be higher in the league. But we still did well to finish above them.

The sad thing is that Bale has been managed well and moved to a position to maximise his impact. We needed that as he's our only world class player.

Last season we had 3 and their combined output probably doesn't even equal Bales on his own this season! That's what happens when you manage by picking your best XI every game and hope for the best after telling them to go out and run around a bit

AVB fudged up at Chelsea. He had an old side he needed to rebuild. He ducked it up by going in all guns blazing but it was a poor unbalanced squad by their standards

I would say we are marginally better than Arsenal. Certainly don't agree that they are significantly better than us. The big difference is they have a much stronger mentality than we do. Things like that weren't taken into account last season.

These two threads suggest otherwise:

Re: Harry Redknapp

Can't we just talk about Redknapp in a negative manner (if we so wish) without the same people taking it as a personal insult and dragging it out to a debate over his time here?

errrm no. not that those who appreciated what redknapp did for us are taking it as a personal insult...but here is no reason surely not to get into a debate about harry

Re: Harry Redknapp

I disliked the person more than the manager - who I thought was slightly above average for most of the time

That right. Because this season, Chelsea haven't fudged up like they did last season.

Well now that those that want it that way have succeeded in turning this from a thread about Redknapp/QPR into one about his time at Spurs then obviously you can knock yourself out ;) Find it hard to not get involved at this stage myself - as you can see.

I just think it's a shame that any discussion about what he is doing outside of his time here will eventually get brought back to this tired argument. It should be possible to leave that out of the equation

Last season Chelsea ended the season on 64 points, this season they have 65 points already with 4 games left to play.

It seems pretty obvious to me that finishing above Chelsea this season will be more of an achievement than finishing above them last season.

Re: Harry Redknapp

Still trying to wrap my head around the idea that Chelsea had a bad side last season. I'm not saying they deserved to win the European Cup, yes they were incredibly lucky in the first leg against Chelsea and also in the final, but you don't go to the Nou Camp and restrict Barca like they did if you are a bad team, with 10 men. Teams don't often win the Champions League without being good defensively.

Let's face it, Chelsea underachieved massively in the league, partly because Di Matteo isn't anymore than simply a good/average manager and also because AVB tried to change things too quickly and he upset some of the players. I don't deny he got harshly treated, but you can hardly say his time there was a success.

They have a better side this year and much better players.

Hazard and Oscar are fantastic players, Mata is a much better player than last year and they also have Ba . Totally different team.

Re: Harry Redknapp

I find English enjoying negativity over positivity strange, but it's common place. For me Holland winning the World Cup is as good as it gets or Ajax winning the Champion's League or Spurs winning the Premiership. For you, Redknapp's team getting relegated is as good as it gets. Honestly, I think Spurs winning the Premiership is as good as it gets, not seeing a former coach who did well for us coaching a relegated team.

Wrong, i was refering to the phrase Redknapp said about Spurs, what he really meant was " this is as GHod as it gets" for him.
