O/T The England Thread

That was England's biggest win since another 8-0 win, that time against Turkey at Wembley in the European Championship qualifiers in October 1987.

Yes, San Marino were tinkle-poor opposition last night but it was a clinical performance from England.

I know Azza's injured but I find it laughable that James Milner is ahead of him. He's mainly in the team for his hard work off the ball but Lennon's is as good if not better anyway.

I always thought the same. Milner doesn't add ANYTHING other than hard work etc.

In fact players like Milner is what is wrong with the England national team.

Lennon is the most underrated player in England

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Someone like Leon Britton could do a job for England, not flashy but can keep the ball. But he plays for an unfashionable club.

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Underrated sure and miles better than Milner, but ultimately hasn't delivered enough for England, just like 99% of our players.

For England your right. But never ever been near being a permanent fixture in the England side. Also not just by the national side but fans of other clubs, pundits etc, never seem to really appreciate Azza like the WHL faithful do. Has to be easily one of the most popular players with the fans that we have.

I really like Lennon, but I guess fans just look at his overall end product and think he doesn't deliver enough. They have a point, he doesn't score enough goals. Always had problems with injuries too. I wonder how he would do at a club like Man U. Not that I'd want that to happen.

He has hardly been given the chance. It's always one or two friendlies here and there for Lennon.

He RARELY gets picked when he's on flying form and when he does he's on the bench. Why should he care about playing in a friendly when the manager clearly doesnt care about playing him.

Only thing I would say that is that Aaron, like many England players, has rarely reproduced anything like the level of his club form for England. For England, he has all too often been the frustrating player, who we have seen at times for for Spurs, who lacks the confidence to take on his man.

It also has to be said that England have rarely been set up to best utilise his qualities.

Agree with the bold bit.

I think England (as we have decent individuals as opposed to team players) should always play a team that compliments eachother as opposed to 11 best players. If we play Lennon, then play Walker at right back, they know each other from Spurs etc. even Defoe up top as him and Lennon have a very good understanding.

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

is that partly because he's played with better players with us, Sandro, Modric, Bale, VDV, Berbatov, etc

Granted, but he was picked ahead of Walcott for South Africa 2010 and he didn't play well.

USA - No one played well, apart from Gerrard. Lennon provided the best pass of the game though and Heskey scuffed up, no surprise.
Algeria - I can guarantee he didn't even touch the ball 10 times. I always thought people shy away from passing to Lennon.
Slovenia - Dropped.
Germany - Benched. SWP came on instead of him.

Re: **Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

Thought England were just as bad in the first half as they were in the second; the difference was that Montenegro were much, much better in the second than they were in the first.

Thought Carrick was our best player... kept the ball really well, and not just by playing simple sideways or backwards passes - he played so many accurate balls along the ground to our attacking players' feet, and I think it's a skill and a contribution that's often overlooked.

When Milner has significantly more England caps than Lennon, it's not difficult to see why the team struggles to keep possession or play exciting attacking football. (Milner's pass completion rate was 60% tonight, and is 76.6% for Emirates Marketing Project this season (Lennon's is 85%)) ... And Milner has 1 assist this season. WHY THE fudge DOES THIS GUY START SO MANY GAMES FOR ENGLAND!?

Gerrard often provides an attacking spark for us, but I hate that he's always (it seems to me) so sloppy in possession...

If Cleverley didn't play for United, would he be anywhere near the squad? Seems a rather average player every time I see him...

IMO Carrick and Wheelchair should always be the first-choice central midfielders (and a pretty good duo at that), and Lennon should have the right-wing spot locked down.
