Jan Vertonghen

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

Not if Walker keeps playing like he did v Arsenal. I think at the moment Kaboul becomes just a rotational choice until he proves himself worthy again.
ExACTLY. We've all seen how AVB operates. He'll have to work his way into the team. No favouritism at the club presently it seems. If Daws keeps performing he won't be removed - same for Verts. The good thing is Kaboul is an effective RB as well so that'll keep young Kyle on his toes. Ahhh competition!!

This. If anything i don't think Kaboul will secure a first team spot this season, there just isn't enough time for it.

Next season is a different story though, as he will get a whole pre-season to impress once more.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen says that the Spurs squad are savouring life at White Hart Lane ahead of the visit of Inter Milan on Thursday.

Spurs are currently unbeaten in their last seven games and four straight Premier League wins has seen Andre Villas-Boas' side continue their Champions League push.

The North London club go into the game as underdogs but Vertonghen says he is relishing the prospect of taking on the Italian giants.

"This is why we play football," he said. "It's a tough week, a tough season, actually. We started the week well at West Ham and we needed the win against Arsenal. That was fantastic and now we prepare for Inter. No doubt it's a special time for the fans as well."

"I only arrived at the club six months ago but you can feel this is one of the most important games of the season.

"It's my first win in the North London derby, so I'm happy. We had a difficult 30 minutes but we stayed compact, stayed playing as a team and the goals were great for us.

"We said don't concede an early goal in the second half like at United, but we're a very strong team, we can play compact and we showed that again."

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

Right! we're all tinkled off but let's get some positivity in here (most of us need to work in the morning and it's going to be very very cold in these parts)...

How good was he?? Some of those almost casual tackles in the box reminded me of King (think Robben, Henry...) so sublime!

Oh and he scored two - the second was fantastic considering his balance

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

been our best player on the pitch our previous two league games. Colossal.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

In future, if we decide to play a second DM in the team i reckon he'd be the better option rather than Livermore.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

He's been superb all season bar a blip around January time. People got on his back undeservedly.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

He was fudging excellent today.

Apart from the penalty. (Which wasn't given)

Vertonghen is now our 4th highest goal scorer in all competitions with 5 goals, behind Bale, Defoe and Dempsey. He has now scored more goals for us than the likes of Lennon, Adebayor, Sigurdsson and Dembele. It must be embarassing to those attacking players to have a defender scoring more goals than them. Hope they will improve their scoring.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

Would prefer Vertonghen as a striker than having Adebayor. Vertonghen looked so composed for his 2 goals yesterday, something which Adebayor lacks.

Re: Jan Vertonghen watch thread

Top, top quality - I was afraid we'd miss King more than we thought, but with Jan's form, and to an extent Caulker as well (and Dawson's return), that's never been an issue.

CRACKING finish.

Re: Jan Vertonghen official

I have no doubt we are practicing set pieces in training. We have looked brilliant from them this year and have scored a few from them recently. Siggy against West Ham, Vertonghen against Inter, both Vertonghen goals against Liverpool. Bale against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, both Bale goals against Lyon
