Hugo Lloris

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/jan/19/tottenham-hotspur-andre-villas-boas?

Excellent article from the Observer about AVB, so I won't post in full here.

But it does focus on AVB's fostering of a strong esprit de corps and that, central to that, is treating everyone as equal, regardless of reputation. Absolutely no favourites. It a policy that has proved popular with all the players.

This is, in large part, why AVB didn't summarily drop Brad and install Hugo as number one as soon as he arrived from Lyon - even if he might always have known that Hugo is the better keeper and would eventually claim the number one spot for himself. Had he done so, the team spirit that he had been carefully nurturing throughout the summer could have evaporated in an instant.

So there were bigger, far more important things at play than the mere choice between two keepers. AVB knew what he was doing.

Which has been argued by many all along. Putting the team ahead of individuals.

Oh I so want to say something - only 6 days left :)

I wouldn't really call this saying nothing ;)

Try looking beyond the fact that Lloris wanted to play and see that he's now our number one, both him and the team are doing well and nobody got hurt in the process. Maybe he could have prevented a goal if he had played instead of Friedel, just as he could have dropped a clanger or it could have affected the overall team spirit.

Some people - especially the obsessed - can't see the bigger picture.

Le fait luxueux un mouvement*? La seule position au club où nous n'avons pas une option française.

Does he fancy a move? The only position at the club where we don't have a French option.

Nous pouvons nous permettre à mais ne préfère pas comme c'est un marché trop cher vendu. La beaucoup meilleure valeur pour l'argent sur le contenu (France/Les Pays-Bas).

We can afford to but would rather not as it is an overpriced market. Much better value for money on the content (France / The Netherlands).

A big hello from Spurs' British signings:

Gareth Bale - £7 million
Kyle Walker - £4 million
Kyle Naughton - £4 million
Michael Dawson - £4 million
Aaron Lennon - £1 million
Tom Huddlestone - £2 million
Scott Parker - £5 million
Danny Rose - £1 million

Aucun dont aucun n'a été récemment signé et seulement l'un a été signé prêt pour la première équipe.

None of which were signed recently and only one was signed ready for the first team.

Bale, Dawson and Parker makes 3. (and yes they all went into the first team)

There has been no major transfer fee inflation for English players over the past few years - especially not for those from lower league clubs.

Bale, Lennon and Dawson were all first team regulars in their first season at Spurs as well as Parker.

I think the measure in question was goals conceded rather clean sheets attained!

oh no, i fully got that. But if you're taking away the games he conceded in, a la 90291 or Rossi, you'd have ended up with neither 0 in 0, nor, 0 in 12.

You'd have ended with 0 in X. X being however many clean sheets he had.

There is some good value on the continent, but I think Wenger is correct when he talks about the relative decline of players from France (on *average* - there still produce some great individuals there). Belgian, German, and Spanish youngsters are the ones to look at imo, though the latter two are really difficult to pry from home. But we might be able to leverage Freund's German and AVB's Portuguese connections, the same way Laudrup's been doing with La Liga.

In England, if they are very hyped (Zaha) then it is very difficult these days to do a good deal...even the lower league ones are fairly expensive now (Villa paid 2.75m for Bennett and 3m for Lowton!). We have some great youngsters coming through our academy so I think we should focus on bringing in the English ones younger and developing them ourselves. Easier said than done, admittedly.

All right Hawking, this is a fackin' football forum, turn it in ;)

Btw, despite being renowned as more of a shotstopper than a distributor/box commander, Lloris's save percentage is actually quite low - 9th worst in Europe's top five leagues at 61%, compared to de Gea's 78.7%. Hugo's clearly not a bad shotstopper though, so I think the problem lies more with our defending - he's faced an enormous 64 shots within the penalty area compared to just 16 outside it, which is a pretty astonishing ratio (80%) even though the total isn't bad overall. I think the recent higher line we're playing now might also tend to enable fewer but better chances on our goal - if their counter does break through our midfield, they tend to have a lot of space. Luckily, we have a few pacy players in our backline and Lloris is good at coming out to snuff the potentially dangerous situations from distance.

I don't think a very high ratio is necessarily worrisome so long as the overall shots and goals conceded is low, but it's something to think about.
