Rating v Man C

Why do you bother mate?

not sure.

one thing people like that succeed in doing is making me have an evil eye on my own players

but in truth i shouldnt lump lloris in the same bracket as these supporters.

there used to be a time on here when it took a lot for us to turn on our better players. i feel the ease at which this lloris v freidel debacle has made people actually turn on the players and not give credit where its due is a symptom of the wigan game and what went on there. the fan base is changing ..... or at least the attitude is changing

pre CL and europe i couldnt imagine people turning on players like mabbut , teddy, howells etc even when they were getting on.

Avb = 1 - Why take someone like adebayor off who can try hold the ball up and put defoe on, defoe on for dempsey would have been the wiser decision.

He caused the pressure in the first place

Because, as everyone knows, what we should have done is gone 4-4-2 with Ade and Saha up front and Kranjcar on the wings. That worked wonders last time against Arsenal, didn't it?

Perhaps a 4-4-1-1? Only who would play the attacking midfielder is utterly beyond me, as our only options are both brick.

If we had Rafa, if we had Modric, if we had Kaboul or Parker or BAE or Dembele, then we could switch formations at will to a style that more suits your liking.

Until then, we make do with what we have. And what we have isn't much at all.

I'm limited in what I want from AVB; I want him to relieve the pressure we inevitably get put under during the end of games by using his subs more effectively. that's it. I don't expect miracles, and I don't want to second-guess a man who's squad is the weakest we've had for years.

Friedel - 6. Strangely didn't have *that* much to do other than pick the ball out of his net a couple of times (both of which I don't think he could do anything about), was generally solid and good at coming off his line.

Walker - 5. Actually a decent first half... but a really, really poor second half. Horrible error for Aguero's goal. Awful passing and general offensive-play for most of the game.
Gallas - 5. Few too many misjudgements today. Caught inbehind with through balls. Dropped off strikers too often, allowed them too much space.
Caulker - 6. Spent a lot of the second half doing too much covering for Verty. Clearly has all the talent in the world, although looks too casual/'indifferent' at times (shown in how he also drops off sometime & lets players run at him).
Verty - 5. Worst game for Spurs... generally poor on the ball but pretty much lost his legs second half - they ran riot all over his wing.

Thudd - 6. Good first half. Really good interceptions, and immense setpieces, plus spells of trademark good passing. Also great shot, unlucky not to force a save. Noticeably tired second half, still felt he did well in terms of pressing, although his passing became too erratic.
Sandro - 8.5. As usual, a complete beast. One man-wrecking shop, was all over the pitch tackling, intercepting, pressing. Took on Yaya in a physical battle and matched him all the way - how many other players in world football can do that?
Dempsey - 4. Clearly picked for the defensive side of his game - and he worked hard - but plays in a vital area of the pitch for us and just DOES NOT contribute enough to the team's pattern of play. Is not a possession or creative type of player, it's not his game, but he plays in a position where this is vital. Big problem. Absolutely anonymous today.

Bale - 4. tinkled me off today. Anonymous mostly, and as someone else commented what was worse was when he did get the ball, he made consistently stupid and selfish decisions. It's immensely annoying as he's one of our key players!! One good shot.
Lennon - 5. Doesn't get passed to enough (unlike for example Bale) by our team. When he did get it, didn't really have any impact, did a lot of his not taking the player on and keeping it safe thing (not always a bad thing btw, but he should take his man on more, inescapable fact... and I love Azza). Great defensive work though.

Ade - 7. Really good personally. bricky's macaronic fans and players were all over him today but he kept his head well. Held the ball up really well, made some awesome runs, could have used it slightly better at times but to be fair he often didn't have options.

subs:

Dawson - 7. Did well I thought, won some good headers. Wouldn't be averse to Dawson + Caulker at CB in the next game...
Naughton - N/A... hard to rate
JD - N/A... as above (although I didn't agree with this sub from AVB)

Was indeed another game of playing with 10 men.

10? more like 8.

Dempsey nowhere again, Lennon nothing and Vertonghen at left back is a waste.
I also don't think Ade worked his arse off as some are saying, did some good hold up play but jogged around for long periods of the game.

Friedel 7 - played well, good saves and no chance with goals.
Walker 4 - what to do? I always preferred Charlie at right back, proper defender. Walker has pace but despite improving his game last season has gone backwards this season so far.
Vertonghen 5 - did ok for a while but overrun second half, needs to play centrally.
Gallas 6 - decent game, got caught out by high-line tactics that don't suit his game.
Caulker 5 - good goal. Don't think he should be first choice, good prospect but turned to easy and should've tracked Dzeko's run for the goal.
Lennon 4 - no impact whatsoever, worst game for a while.
Sandro 8 MOM - held it all together, couple of poor passes but otherwise great.
Huddlestone 5 - some decent stuff but doesn't fulfill his talent and impose himself like he used to.
Bale 6 - put in a good shift but was nullified by City.
Dempsey 3 - thought he was a good player at Fulham but for whatever reason he's gone missing.
Adebayor 6 - some decent hold up play.

Friedel - 6.5 Thought he might have done better with the last goal.
Walker - 6
Gallas -6
Caulker - 6.5
Verts - 5.5 (but is out of position)
Hudd - 5 (I'm a hudd fan, but he was knackered and needed subbing off, I think he can get the mobility and fitness required, but he is going to have to keep working hard on it)
Sandro -8 - he is bit of a machine. hope we hang onto him.
Lennon - 7 I thought Lennon did a fair bit of tracking back today.
Bale -5.5 Not his best performance, could have helped out Verts a bit more.
Dempsey -3 I honestly find it difficult to say what he did or didn't do. The game just passed him by.
Ade -8 Ade worked really hard today, and his hold up play was excellent. He was one of the main reasons we held our own in the first half. Dempsey was not the right partner for him though.

AVB - 4 - i want him to succeed. And i think he is learning slowly - eg 4-4-2 agianst Maribor, and starting Ade. Now he needs to get past his over cautious mindset when we are winning. It might work occasionally, but it hasn't worked very well for him so far this season.

You who criticize AVB, what would he do? We encounter a city that is undefeated and reigning champion, an aggressive 442 out of town, do not think so. Does anyone think that the players on the bench would change the picture. The only thing was that we played a high back line and the defense was not good enough for that.

Gallas 5
Walker 5
Bale 5
Sandro 7

Thats the trouble AVB did, the substitutions were where he got it wrong

I believe the change of Walker were due to injury? Lennon had not exactly brought so much to the game, so do not know if the change affected either?
