*** TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Maribor OMT ***

bouncing ball on the touch line, facing his own goal, all near players marked, what other pass did naughton have on?

lloris should know better than to play that pass to him in the first place
and naughton should know how to defend better and not play such a blind pass

they screwed up - brick happens.
good chance for them to hold their heads up and put it right now

Are some of us really saying that goal was all lloris's fault ? Come oooon, he did make a mistake, maybe he should have let the ball run across his body to clear, but naughton shoulda kicked it up the pitch, even away.

I came in seeing us leading 1-0 and hearing we were controlling the game, then we give away a silly goal - it changed, maribor looked confident. We have to get control again.

If communication is poor between the keeper and his back four, that'd be because.....oh thats right, he never f*ckin gets to play with the back four.

that was nothing to do with communication.

it was 3 consecutive poor decisions by 2 players: the pass to Naughton, the pass to Lloris, the attempted turn by Lloris.

We started so well. Completely dominated. Scored a good goal. But then - as is Spurs way at the moment - we completely go off the boil. Swap Lennon and Bale, slow down the tempo, keep getting offside to break up our rythm and gradually let Maribor back into the game.

I know we cant go at 100% all the time, but often we seem the architects of our own misfortune.

Need to start the second half like we started the first.

Amazing little trend with Spurs, if we play with a fast tempo, we look awesome and smash teams...

Wish our manager would see this

Here comes one of the biggest WUMs in this 'debate' with his default Lloris attack on posters creating a divisive context out of nothing (note that no one has said anything extreme in particular up to now)

2bh who decided to buy Lloris? Doesn't seem to be AVB he clearly doesn't rate him and he's made a few bad mistakes now bit of the Gomes about him great in a 2nd tier league where you don't get put under pressure with crosses but just looks to have a mistake in him. He looked shaky on the cross just before their goal. Naughton should never have played it bit WTF? Brad all the way for me an expensive mistake I fear...

I don't think we should ever be looking to pass the ball back to the keeper, ever. I think if we do then there is always that risk that it could go wrong, whether that risk be an unspotted striker, that the ball may bobble on the turf of the pitch, that the goalkeeper isn't fully paying attention and so misses or that the defender mibricks the backpass, whatever it's not a clever idea to pass the ball back to the goalkeeper.

The pass was a mistake but Naughton is young, learning and I'd certainly trust him again, even if the mistake reminded me of Gilberto's wonderful backpass all those years back.

Just got in, glad the game is still alive. We will win 4-0, Lloris with an early hattrick.

Just saw a goal from Metalist vs Rosenborg by Ty Son or something, goal of the year, OF ALL TIME! van Bastenesque volley, back of the net! Shiiiiiit!

what else could naughton do, lloris was the only pass on, he was running towards his own touch line and had to deal with a bouncing ball

an experienced full back would have tried to spin and "play the ball down the line" - knowing full well it would end up in row z

but he'll learn - mistakes are important for that
now time for his team mates to bail both he and lloris out

not all his fault but he played two pretty big parts in a three act drama.

We have so much pace that teams struggle to deal with us when we play at full tempo. That is how we should ALWAYS play. And yes, I know we can't always because of fitness levels etc but it's the way we should try to play as much as possible/

This. Every. Time.

Just put Bale on the left and tell him to run wide, then smash it at the penalty spot fifteen times in 45 minutes. We will get 3 goals from it. We walk off happy. It ain't rocket science Brian.

two posters in particular will crucify naughton and say nothing about lloris. yet if it were brad ...oh no

I think most people realise both are to blame. Blaming one or the other really nails the individual personal biases to the mast.
On my TV David Speedie who was complaining about the money wasted on Lloris all game immediately took it as an oppurtunity to have a go at Lloris completely ignoring Naughton's role.

One thing though is that if Naughton made that pass to Friedel he would have heard about it afterwards. Lloris however was just cursing to himself afterwards.

Jesus, didn't realise I was marked as a Lloris hater, because I'm not, I'm a big fan, but I think that goal is on him

partially of course , but in his defense he's probably used to that kind of pass being dealt with run of the mill when he is on the continent. there they dont press as much and technique is abundant. you gotta clear that stuff here. when your team is being pressed clear it.

dont listen to the guys that dont like keepers kicking long, some times its a necessity to clear and gain ground

there's no way Levy would have spent £10m if he didn't have to. AVB clearly sanctioned the deal.

this is his first clear, major error. so not a 'few bad mistakes' just yet.

i thought he dealt well the previous cross, palming it out was all he could do.

no way, he'll settle in as number 1 over the Xmas period. this is the problem with the modern game: near-instant judgements and players deemed a failure after after a handful of games and a couple of months. crazy.

I said in the other thread that 442/4231 its ultimately how AVB applies the tactics. He has actually made 442 look a touch boring too - as soon as we scored we just kinda laid off the pace. I hate killing the pace of the game. Although our mistake gave them a bit of impetus

442 and just fudgein attack the ****s. arghhhhh
