New DoF?

next person to say berbatov was his even though he came to the lane the season before that french **** joined us, for a look around, well they will get my **** rammed down their throat.

He left us with a squad that was so unbalanced and could not perform. I hate the man hate him hate him.

Comolli joined in September 2005. He signed Berbatov in May 2006. If he didn't sign Berbatov, then he didn't sign Zokora either (who signed a week before Berbatov).

Comolli left us a very good squad, but with no strikers. Redknapp blowing nearly £45m in his first year on Keane, Crouch and Defoe, rather than properly replacing Berbatov (which we didn't do until about 6 weeks ago when we signed Ade), was more what held us back.

I think that is absolute rubbish, GB.

Zokora joined us from the club Comolli had just left but was an inadequate replacement for Carrick, Berbatov by all accounts had been on the radar for a while.

There were three real issues in the squad that Comolli left, it was inexperienced, we had no bite in central midfield and no power or natural partnerships up front. Redknapp tried to address these issues in his first January window.

GB you have to be rational sometimes when you think mate. We were rock bottom when Redknapp took over so what strikers do you think we're going to attract? ffs we needed up finishing 8th (and yes i agree Keane was brick but still). The results speak for themselves and it worked.

As for Crouch we ended up finishing 4th for the first time in premier league history so again it paid off. Say what you like about his ability as a footballer but redknapp signed him to help us finish 4th and we did. We also sold crouch for more than we paid so it worked.

I don't think we ever would have re-signed Keane had Defoe not got injured

Never read so much gonad*s!!

Who was it that left us with no proper defensive midfielder?

Who was it that bought Darren Bent when we already had 3 decent strikers?

Who was it that left our squad unbalanced?

Is it any more unbalanced than the squad Redknapp left Andre?

- Defoe as our only forward senior forward

- 3 aged goalkeepers and 2 aged CBs, not to mention Parker and Defoe in the over 30s club.

- 2 want-away superstars

- a bloated, ageing and unhappy squad

Remember this summer we've had to sell about a dozen players and bring in half a dozen, just to bounce back from the disaster of last spring/Villa Park and Redknapp's short-termist transfer policy.

You mean the disaster that got us 4th place and above Chelsea who outspend us every season by significant margins?

Who are the two wantaway stars? Modric wanted to go, VDV was isn't AVB/Levy's plans so was moved on. VDV never put in a transfer request or stated he wanted to leave.

Unhappy squad? I didn't hear too many Spurs players complaining during the off season. Just the ones who were sold.

You've got to have at least some experienced players. We still have Ekotto, Bale, Lennon, Sandro, Walker, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Townsend, Livermore who are in their early to mid 20s.

Are you willing to give any blame to your mate Commolli, or is everything Redknapp's fault?

Remind me how many top 4 finishes we had under Commolli?

Remember history is written by the victors.

If Ramos and Comolli had pulled off the signing of that kid Falcao from River Plate to replace Berbatov, as they were trying, and Modric and Huddlestone had been tried in CM then, rather than 18 months later, our squad might not have seemed so bad. Remember it contained Modric, Bale, Kaboul, BAE, King, Woodgate, Lennon etc.

At the beginning of 2008/9 season the consensus was we were maybe two players short. IIRC it was Arshavin and Veloso who we had tried late for and failed to get deals done on. Is that so different from now, when we are obviously two players short after failing to do deals for Moutinho and Leandro?

So how do you explain us being bottom of the league under Ramos then? Or his woeful league record in just under a season in charge?

If's, If's, If's. If Redknapp had been able to sign Messi, we would have won the double last season.

Also, are you not contradicting yourself here? You say we are only two players short, well we only signed Dempsey, Dembele and Lloris in the window. Vertonghen wasn't an AVB signing, so the squad really wasn't as bad as you were previously making out.

Ifs and buts.

There was enough positives and negatives to suit either of your views, but nobody is gonna change their mind at this point.

I didn't mean to defend Ramos particularly. I do think Comolli's record can by and large be defended though.

Saying Verts isn't an AVB signing is as ridicuous as saying Berbatov isn't a Comolli signing. Yes some of the leg work may have been done before, but he made the final decision. Otherwise you need to say that Sig and Dempsey were Rodgers signings.

I think Andre signed 6 out of the 8 players/positions he identified, which actually isn't back going for less than one window in post.

Vertonghen was at WHL for the final game of the season whilst Redknapp was still in charge.

No offence dude, but as I remember it you were talking complete and utter gonad*s about Arshavin signing for us up until the second he signed for Arsenal?

Do you know, I am quite capable of crediting Camolli where it is warranted. We signed some good players on his watch. But I would balance this by saying that far too many of them were not ready for the first team at the time and particularly when Jol was with us, were not the players that the manager wanted.

I'd be interested to see if GB was able to a more measured assessment of Camolli's tenure too.
