Sandro - Beast

Re: Sandro - Legend

Okies , cheers ... the first half was not so good but he did up his game in the 2nd half .

I'd like to get individual player stats , any sites recommended?

Re: Sandro - Legend

Wonder if we could have a three of Parker Sandro and Dembele successfully?

I assume for bigger games we might turn to this in order to quell the opposition attacking threat.

Parker Sandro
Dembele
Ade

Sandro doesn't need Parker alongside him, he does the job of two men. Competition for places. Love it.

Re: Sandro - Legend

No mate, he started improving towards the end of the half and carried it into the second. Then he started giving possession away a little toward the end, which I put down to tired legs. Very positive though, as he hits his form then hopefully we'll see lots of the more effective passing we saw second half.

Its splitting hairs as to when he improved but I think he got worse as the first half wore on. I think he starts to get anxious if we're not leading by 30 mins and starts trying to force passes instead of playing it simple. I admire his desire to win but sometimes he'd be better playing a simple pass, especially when its still early on in the game. His passing was spot-on in the 2nd half though - no doubt about that.

I'm only pointing it out as he had a poor first half against both QPR and Norwich at home (and was subbed against Norwich). Complete contrast to his away performances where he's been an absolute monster.

I really like this site, as it gives you a slight idea of a players performance based on staticstics. But take it with a pinch of salt as I bet Jenas accurate sideway passes would give him a good rating ;)

Re: Sandro - Legend

Reckon he meant dembele..

Cheers :) In deed I did.

From Windy on twitter, pretty much always reliable.

Some passing stats: Dembele 77 passes at 92% completion, Sandro 60 @ 90%, Bale 50 @ 70%, Walker 43 @ 93%, Vertonghen 42 @ 90%.

Solid stats, we still need Sandro's passing to improve, but he's getting back to the levels he were at before his injury plagues season last time around.

Those stats also go some way towards confirming what I thought during the game, Dembele is sitting a bit deeper than he has in some games in the past and getting on the ball more, I really think that's important for us to give us that skill and ability in the centre.

Re: Sandro - Legend

was my man of the match today

actually who got the official man of the match i do not remember hearing?

really? his defending was immense I give you that but he was absolutely dog brick at passing and gave it away so many times

edit - dont get me wrong I love the player, but thought Lennon had a better game than him, and he scored so would give MOM to him.

I think it says a lot about our strength in midfield that even after losing Modric, we can still afford to have a quality player like Parker on the bench. Sandro has had a great start to the season, but Parker will definitely play a part for us as well. There are many games to go.

Re: Sandro - Legend

Sandro still isn't at top form for me, effort is there, defensive duties are there, but still a little short of the best we have seen from him.

Re: Sandro - Legend

Sandro seems to be the club joker, this along with his kung-fu video seem to make the Tottenham players look very happy, even Bentley and Gomes!

Re: Sandro - Legend

Good interview, he does seem a very likeable character with a winning mentality. I also found this bit interesting:

"It helps all the players a great deal that the manager speaks perfect English, perfect Spanish, Portuguese, French, and so everybody understands very clearly the message. Personally, it is a big help that the manager speaks to me in Portuguese. When I first joined the club, I didn't speak any English and it was difficult to fully understand, even with the help of people translating for me, exactly what the messages were at times. It was frustrating."

I can imagine this can be a big selling point to young international players who don't speak English very well/at all. To have a manager that is able to communicate with you in your native language, can only be positive.

Re: Sandro - Legend

Think he has just about overtaken Disco Benny as my favourite Spurs player right now. Both absolute legends, love that they play for Spurs

Re: Sandro - Legend

The Brazilian midfielder is a superb destroyer, but has also been influential going forward this season, suggesting he has a greater role to play under Villas-Boas.

The twin giants of Dembele and Sandro have quickly become the bedrock of Spurs formation, and they are certainly imposing themselves on opposition attacks.

No midfield partnership has won recovered possession on more occasions than Sandro and Dembele, and Spurs have allowed the second fewest shots on goal in the division, with only Emirates Marketing Project being more stingy in that regard.

Dembele and Sandro have been integral to that strong defensive showing, providing a huge screen in front of the back four.

But these two are clearly not only defensive players, and whilst everyone already knows about Dembele's skill on the ball, his Brazilian counterpart has also been ranging forward with success this year. In the match against Aston Villa, Sandro only attempted one fewer pass than Dembele in the attacking third, and his distribution was vital all over the pitch, as he completed the second most passes (behind Dembele) of anyone.

It is in matches like the one against Villa at home where Sandro will need to be more than a destroyer of opposition attacks. With teams sitting back at White Hart Lane, the presence of the Brazilian will be important in breaking sides down, and pushing Spurs' whole defensive line up the pitch.

This should give Spurs more opportunities to win the ball near the opposition's goal, and create chances as a result.

Sandro is also important as a ball-carrier. Again he is not as proficient as Dembele in this regard, but he can certainly dribble up the pitch with enough pace to begin Spurs' counter attacks.

With two players able to kickstart Tottenham's forward movement, the other team cannot simply focus on Dembele and ignore Sandro as a purely defensive player. The Brazilian creates space not only for the Belgian when he roves forward, but also for Spurs' trio of attacking midfielders.

Sandro has spoken recently of how he is enjoying working under Villas-Boas, and that he now has a clearer idea of what is expected of him. His attacks may sometimes look a little cumbersome, but he is effective. For proof we need look no further than this marvellous 720 turn to escape two Villa players last weekend.

Sandro said:
"When the weather is good some of the other Spurs boys, like Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone, like to come round and we have a traditional Brazilian barbecue..."

No wonder THudd's put on some weight. Have you seen the amount of meat that goes into those barbecues?!
