The Sherwood talk has been around before.

He is highly regarded within the club - a lot higher than Bond and Jordan apparently.

The talk was that Sherwood should be head coach - and then a new dof would be appointed.

But remember; it was only a rumour.

We need a winner - plain and simple. I dont see any candidates in this country who are proven winners. We have one hell of a platform and will be a very attractive proposition for a top manager who has won things. Similar to how Man C got Mancini...we need to get someone who has won trophies and we should be able to get a top manager

Mate, this is the guy who went from Pompey to Southampton, back to Pompey. Its hardly beyond him!

Still, i reckon he'll think he can have his cake and eat it here. He has the chance to lead us to our highest pl finish and possibly win the FA cup. And still manage England. Leaving us now, to manage that shower of brick, doesn't make all that much sense.

WHEN he goes i'll be disappointed, I really thought he could be our modern day Bill Nic, Spurs players and the fans respect him, and we are grateful for what he has done for us.

Thing is, as he is "old school" it's been his dream since a young boy to be England manager, he knows this is his only chance in his life to take this oppurtunity, so in a way I can understand, but I will be very disappointed, as the players WILL LOSE FAITH & CONFIDENCE. If we do not get a world class manager in, we are looking at a downward spiral.

I think Capellos resignation is brilliant for Spurs! Absolutely perfect! Harry was going to walk in the summer and we would have been left with Capello resigning in July and then losing Harry mid-transfer window and 3 weeks before the season

Now we'll know well in advance whether he's going to be going and the most likely situation has to be that Pearce will manage England for the Holland game (OUR LAST GAME BEFORE THE EUROS) with Harry appointed in advance to take over in May. Levy can therefore offer Harry say ?ú1m if he finishes 3rd, ?ú500k for 4th so he is incentivised and also has 3 months to identify a new manager

Wouldn't blame him because he would have discussed it with Levy. It would not be just his decision imo after what has gone on today. I would be slightly surprised and uneasy about what this means for us. He is and has been a great manager for us and this timing sucks quite frankly. Fine if we can share for a while, get top3 and bring Mourhino in but if he is available the likes of the Scum, City and even pool may also have eyes on him.

our big players are on long contracts and they will go when we want them to go.

im not against a big name manager - provided he is the right one, but there are definitely candidates in this country that id be happy with- the names mentioned in the first post you replied to for example.

Well I am afraid if we get a second rate manager (should he go) you can kiss good by to the likes of Modric, Bale etc, long contracts mean nothing apart from how much the players are worth. If you really think the Modric stance was a defining decision, I think you are unfortunately wrong. He is staying until the summer, then he will decide on his future and his pay rise.

Fair enough. At least I know where you stand.

However, The FA will most likely want a resolution to this case long before May and most likely before the friendly against Holland. If we don't allow Harry to talk to The FA or sign with The FA they will most likely sign someone else for the Euros and could end up signing someone else for a longer period of time as well as their targets might not be willing to sign shorter contracts.

I would fear that upsetting Harry by not letting him talk to The FA and taking away his chances to manage England if he really wants to might be a much bigger negative influence than Harry spending 4-5 days with the England squad in February and thinking about England while also thinking about Spurs.

you wont hear me defending that odious clam Terry, but the FA screwed up - if Terry was going to be stripped of the arm band it needed to be either at the request of the players or from the manager, but to take it off him (an innocent man - (for 4 months)) like this is wrong

but i do think they have stripped him of the captaincy because the rest of the squad not being able to respect him or follow his leadership rather than to punish him for the alleged racism - but yea, the FA have gone about it in totally the wrong way

I understand where your coming from but you have to understand the position the FA are in. Chelsea have helped cause this because a court date could have been handed down in March and they said No, didn't want the distractions despite it being a case that would last maybe 2-3 days.

The FA would like to carry on the edict of Innocent until proven Guilty but to wait until July, play a major tournament with Terry as captain, possibly then be found guilty? That is just way too much of a political own goal. It had to happen, Terry doesn't have the integrity to hand it back voluntarily.

Where the FA shouldhave done better was initially discuss this with Capello prior to doing it, giving him the option to support it or walk. They also should have said we actually cannot select John Terry until this whole debacle is over with - that would have shown it wasn't just about the captaincy but about the wider implications of this case hanging around for 6 plus months through a major tournament.

No one can tell the future. It's not about needing to be a big name manager to do well. It's about who are the most likely to do well.

and i think Redknapp has proven that there is more than just a trophy list to show who can do well as a manager.

Pardew doesn't do any of the buying. They have scouts and others to do that.

He'd probably have to win them the league before they accept him. He gets them results, but that's apparently not enough.

There have been enough managers who have done well at a small club, been tipped for big things and then when they've moved to a big club they;ve failed. Spurs havent been in as good a position for decades and therefore we need to get someone who has the best chance of taking us to the next level...and a manager who has won things is the best bet

If Harry goes his replacement is one of the most important in the club's history. Get it wrong and there is a very real chance we could regress and lose our key players. It would be massively risky to go for someone untested at the highest level. If we can get Mourhino in then great, but I am genuinely concerned about what might happen.

Not sure if it has been mentioned (sorry I haven't read back) but it is shaming that Rooney, and the press in general, are clamouring for a manager employed by a club currently top 3 in the PL and who has been supported for the past 2 weeks during a very difficult time for all. Not Harry's fault at all, but truly disgraceful that people are behaving with such a lack of respect.

most people knew this day would come when he took charge, it's happened earlier than we thought.

i still don't think its a full drawn conclusion - he would be giving up his last chance to have a proper crack at the Premiership title (next season im talking about here) i think he will stay with Spurs tbh

I am not accusing anyone of saying such but I am sure there will be some out there that will feel that way, especially if he goes on to manage certain other clubs if England fails.

I didn't think this day would come when he first arrived, I honestly thought he would be a stop gap to keep us up or we would go down.

When we drew with Arsenal and beat Liverpool, 7 points from 3 games I was like, what have we got here

I agree with your order for the first two. Should be our first choices and Levy really should look to do what he could to get them. Not convinced at all on Moyes and Coyle though and I would rather we went for Klopp (Dortmund), Bielsa (Bilbao) or someone like that. Rodgers would be a fun gamble, but I'm not convinced that he's ready.

I don't see any reason to worry about Sherwood though, much too soon. Maybe in a couple of seasons, after him being an assistant manager for a year or two. Maybe. But not now. Not gonna happen.

Nope, am not saying 'fudge Harry'. He's done well for Spurs and am greatful. However life moves on - he's said he wants to manager England and the FA will want him to manage england. We need harry to be motivated between now and May so lets offer him a performance related deal from now til then and make sure we have the best guy lined up to replace him. Everyone is a winner
