Ratings against man u

When Rooney came on, he sat in the hole and Scholes could drop off and dictate play. Suddenly Van Persie and Kagawa had Rooney to either play off or occupy our defenders. It seemed that we really had a hard time adjusting for 10-15 mins. To me, we then smartened up a bit and rather than press and get picked off, we let Scholes try and break us down from 45-50 yards and started to deny Rooney that space to operate. In essence, I thought we took the gamble TO defend deep, keep compact, maintain our focus and also our discipline. If we hadn't defended deep and compact with a form plan, we'd have lost for sure. That was my read on the second-half anyhow.

I did not see it this way. I don't think that there was any tactical master-stroke from Ferguson, he just did what Redknapp used to do with us, and chucked on another attacker (and then another). We failed to deal with it and sat deeper and deeper as the second half went on. Our midfield failed to provide an outlet for our defence and no one in a white shirt could hold onto the ball. I thought that we looked tired as the second half progressed, errors started to creep into Vertonghen's game and Dembele looked dead on his feet when he went off.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the result, particularly coming this early in AVB's time at the club, when we are still a work in progress. He also lacked options from the bench, which was really lacking in quality. I thought that it was the typical game of two halves, the performance in the first half was excellent and we were very poor in the second.

Friedel - 6 - conceded 2 goals, reluctant off his line again (that Carrick corner almost went in, ffs) - few shots straight at him don't fail to deceive. Lloris HAS TO start against Villa based on form alone

Walker - 5 - poor
Caulker - 7 - fought hard
Gallas - 6 - struggled for pace
Vertonghen - 8 - MotM

Lennon - 6 - marginalised
Dembele - 7 - faded in the second half
Sandro - 8 - beast
Bale - 8 - fantastic goal and 'assist' for the 3rd

Defoe - 6 - predictably isolated
Dempsey - 6,5 - tap-in goal - little else

People slag off journalists, but people here are the same with their lloris agenda. The marks for friedel, people who are desperate for lloris give friedel as low a mark as they can realistically go and people who love friedel go as high as they can go. It's been quite funny to read.

THANK YOU!!!!
starting to wonder if people actually support the team / players, i get this feeling of peopl wishing freidel to fudge up jsut so lloris can play.

there appears to be No consideration to the awareness and experience it takes to position yourself infront of a an attacking pattern / momentum to make saves easier for yourself

and how many of those bullet shots did he murder and catch like a soft cushion. like thats easy to do.

did carrick take any corners for united? and if he did , did it nearly go in straight from the corner? cause if we're talking about that looping header then that is categorically just petty

I agree. Brad had a fantastic game yesterday but some people will always see what they want to see.

I am really pleased with the way that AVB is handling the goalkeepers. Dropping a player in form would send a terrible signal to the rest of the squad and would have me worried that he hadn't learnt from the mistakes he made at Chelsea.

all i can say in my defense is that id rate 6 as a 'standard' score for a player and through the game they either go up or down from that starting point depending on how they fair. after watching the game and the highlights i think that an average/standard score for the goalkeeper is fair. made the safe saves but no more.

comparing my team ratings with those who have given Friedel a 7 (for example) shows that ive generally scored a little less overall for ALL positions, not singling out the goalkeeper unfairly. only Bale got an 8, the rest were 7's and 6's (apart from Walker who got a 4) - so i will oppose anyone saying im being unfairly critical of the goalkeeper in my ratings

it's funny how if we didn't have this whole Lloris situation and Friedel was getting the same scores then i imagine it wouldn't even be picked up on.

:ross:

look how high that ball was. he'd have had to have been on Crouch's shoulders to be able to get anywhere near that.

to call him out for that is laughable mate.

see about 10:20 in this link, you'll how high and looping it was.

ArcspacE is quickly becoming the biggest wum on this forum.. his anti friedel agenda is absolute lunacy.

Yes We let Scholes have a lot of the ball , but he does not really hurt you, so I did not mind him having the ball, most of his passes are 5 yards square. Yesterday he did ping a couple of long forward passes together, but that is unusual for him.

They did not create much, they were mostly just sending high balls into the box. Their danger man was RVP , who did the most damage wiit ha lovely ball for their 2nd goal.

i dont believe this. are you joking or being serious about that?

Honestly i'm curious, not trying to offend but i'm kind of speechelss abit with all that

I recall Friedel receiving many 6s last season, even in those games he had little to do. I also don't recall posters suggesting there are fans out there who take pleasure in Spurs players failing or hoping to fail - that is quite frankly despicable. No one should be immune form objective criticism.

People have been saying Brad must lose his spot and Lloris has to earn it - well, the latter isn't playing so I'm not entirely sure how that is meant to happen while the former has been a consistent 6.5/10 season, imv and conceded over a goal/game. I think it's fair to give Hugo a crack against Villa - hoping Friedel to decent into a Gomes-like poor streak of form is completely unreasonable and highly unlikely. Look at De Gea and Lindegaard (sp) - they've somehow managed the situation to a reasonable success (although both are young keepers needs to be noted).

it's a shame we lost all that excellent data that someone produced based on the player ratings of the board over the course of last season - would put this argument to bed i think

i presume that Lloris will play on Thursday.

we just have to understand that the keeper situation is a long game. mid to long term Lloris is the answer. right now, Friedel deserves the start.

AVB - 10

Team - 10

Badger Cull - 3

Absolutely - I've been thinking of that myself lately

Also - I'm not so sure why so many take apparent offence to the suggestion

- Lloris is a better keeper than Brad
- Lloris being the better keeper than should be starting ahead of him irrespective of the fact Brad makes a few decent saves in a game or has some wikipedia stats going for him

Brad has always been unremarkably reliable - he is not prone to high-profile errors in games. He's a solid keeper who will more often than not produce the default performance necessary. I don't recall many instances of match-winning displays or MotM games (Gomes had many of those at the end of our first 4th place finish) - how many games last year did he get a 8 or higher rating?.

It's been 6 games into the season and Brad has done ok - absolutely nothing more than that, imv - so why not give our new keeper a run again Aston Villa - home game/reasonable opponent. Else Brad will carry on the way he always has.
