Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

Only 3 games into the new season and...

The end is nigh? Villas-Boas has three games to save his Tottenham job

Daniel Levy is reportedly not prepared to sit back too long and see Tottenham’s campaign sabotaged by poor early-season results

Under-fire Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has three Premier League games to save his job, writes The People.

Problems are piling up for the Portuguese gaffer as he tries to establish a new regime at White Hart Lane. Fans booed Spurs off the pitch after the home draw with Norwich a fortnight ago, a result that meant they are without a Premier League win all season.

The development and recruitment chief at the club, Tim Sherwood, has been marginalised by AVB who is also at loggerheads with chairman Daniel Levy over his insistence on fielding 41-year-old American Brad Friedel in goal ahead of new £12million summer signing Hugo Lloris.

The club’s scouting network is in disarray, with chief scout Ian Broomfield leaving – and former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp heaped pressure on the dossier-led managerial style used by Villas-Boas with his claim that “bull**** baffles brains”.

Now, if Spurs lose at Reading today and then QPR in their next league game, Levy will **** the trigger – and a likely defeat at Manchester United soon afterwards will see AVB fired.

The Spurs chief, sacked by Chelsea earlier this year after just eight months in charge, has seen his club lose to Saudi Sportswashing Machine and scrape draws with West Brom and Norwich so far this season.

Levy is not prepared to sit back too long and see Tottenham’s campaign sabotaged by poor early-season results.

The chairman, looking to appoint a director of football once the season settles down, is disappointed by AVB’s start to his job at Tottenham, while most fans are still puzzled as to why Levy sacked Redknapp in the first place.

Old school boss Redknapp last week hinted club owners are dazzled by the new breed of manager, saying: ”These days you are getting 70-page dossiers on this and that. Bull**** can baffle brains at times.”

The departure of Broomfield by mutual consent last week severed the last link with the Redknapp regime, as AVB looks to establish his own power base.

Redknapp brought Broomfield from Portsmouth and he helped bring in stars like Friedel, midfielder Sandro, now Brazil’s captain, Rafael van der Vaart, Kyle Walker and Younes Kaboul.

Broomfield helped co-ordinate the signings of Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele and Clint Dempsey last month, but was disappointed the club failed to land midfielder Oscar, who joined Chelsea instead.

People Sport understands Tottenham’s scouts were called to the training ground for a meeting on Friday, as AVB attempts to re-organise behind the scenes.

Villas-Boas wants things done his way and that means Sherwood, a significant figure in Redknapp’s reign, has little involvement.

France No.1 keeper Lloris, signed on deadline day, has already made it clear he’s unhappy at playing second fiddle to Friedel.

But AVB doesn’t seem to mind who he upsets – the same single-minded approach that ended his Chelsea career inside nine months.

As well as Reading today and QPR next Sunday, Tottenham also face Lazio in the Europa League, Carlisle away in the League Cup before the trip to Old Trafford, where AVB’s short reign could come to an end.

What a disgraceful piece of inaccurate gonad*s! If I were the club, Id sue them.

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

How do fit enough ROFLs into one post? Oh my GHod, it's embarassing to say the least.

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

the press attack is what was expected....didnt the board expect this? If not, they are fools and if they did then they are fools with big egos

if they dont now stick by AVB then Levy especially can get outta here too

seriously, AVB is not the best coach/manager in the world, so why have the club taken such a huge almighty risk in appointing someone with so much baggage after his time at Chelsea ](*,)

:ross: :ross: :ross: :ross: :ross: :ross: :ross: :ross:

AVB may well turn out to be an absolute disaster, but that article is just the biggest pile of toss I've ever seen. It just makes them look stupider if he does actually do well for us.

do you think this is a possibility?

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

A new philosophy is Introduced, having had most of the squad off to the Euros since his appointment, lost our best player, international breakes, it's not easy to get to team working together.

Porto, not having watched them, I suspect played some decent ball. Swansea didn't look too shabby under Rodgers. Both teams struggling to get results because of new ideas being brought in.

Yes, it's not easy to get the team playing together, especially when you pick players who clearly aren't right for the formation you want to play when you have others available.

Rodgers has not been getting results at Liverpool...the difference being you can see the effects he's having on the team and their ability to keep the ball and carve out chances. The performances have been good, they've just lacked cutting edge. The performances we've seen under AVB have been dreadful, from a direct result of his poor team selection when there were alternatives that were clearly better available to him.

of course it bloody does, you may not agree that we ended the season in a poor run of form (second half of the season 9th in the form table) or that losing 3 of our best players will effect our performances compared to last season or even that apart from Harry Kane Jermaine Defoe has been our only option up front - but to me it adds weight to Villa Boas' defense when judging our first few games this season and comparing them to us at our best last year

we are in a totally different place to the end of of 2011 and mostly that is out of his hands (key players gone and the striker situation) meaning that if people insist on judging him on the performances we had when things were going well - then it is only fair, imv, to take in to account the transfer window AND the last few months decline in our on the field return and maybe, just maybe we should give him some time to get us back in to shape

If the UK formed a new government today, I'd accept the fact that they had a lot of brick to deal with to sort out this country in the wake of previous incumbents. But if the first act they did was to increase defence spending by double and cut back on everything else to accommodate it, I'd instantly turn against them.

Harry made tactical mistakes too. I remember him playing Zokora and King together in central midfield away to Wigan once and we lost the game following a dreadful performance. fudge knows what goes through a manager's head sometimes. But Harry was usually quick to learn from his mistakes and played balanced sides that were set out to win the game most of the time. I still have absolutely no idea what AVB was thinking in leaving Adebayor and Dembele on the bench last time out, and I have no doubt in my mind that if they'd started we would have won the game. Don't bother saying they weren't fit, as soon as they were on our performance massively improved and both looked fine - the problem then was that when we were finally on the front foot he took off Defoe, to let Norwich back into the game, to bring on a player who actually wasn't fit in Huddlestone. Utter madness.

The fact is, if we'd dropped points in the last two games because of say, Vertonghen not yet adapting to the pace of the English game and making a mistake, or because Ruddy had been outstanding in goal and we just couldn't convert the many chances we were creating, or because of a poor refereeing decision, or because the opposition scored a wonder goal out of nothing etc, then I'd be more sympathetic. But until AVB starts picking the team in an intelligent, methodical manner, he does not deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Any money that was written by John Cross Gooner

Its so laughable its unreal

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

do you think this is a possibility?

I think he could be an absolute disaster, just as I think he could be a roaring success. He could also probably guide us to a respectable 5th place this year. The point I was trying to make is that there is no way of knowing yet, but journos will still try and come out with articles like that too prematurely, which makes them look amazingly stupid if he does well.

I wanted AVB. He was my first choice. He was my only choice to be honest. And I don't think the club care too much about his baggage with the press. They would have made their own decision based on his interview, and based on talking to people within the game. The press are irrelevant. If we get results, they will have nothing to say. Chelsea is irrelevant too, there's even a story with Walker today saying that he spoke to Ashley Cole who had only positive things to say about him - and Cole was reportedly one of the biggest rebels in the AVB Chelsea team. And everyone was worried that Chelsea players would tell our players not to listen to him! Our players love the training sessions, and they seem to respect the tactics he wants to implement and are excited for when it all clicks. It says a lot Dawson wants to stay rather than take the first opportunity to bolt...AVB has obviously been very fair with him in explaining why he isn't going to be picked, but has honestly said he has a chance to fight his way back in. That's good man management, rather than bad.

But I am slightly worried. Let's say we lose today - a total possibility considering there are no easy games, certainly away from home in the Premier League, and then we draw to QPR next week as their signings have started to gel themselves, then we've basically used up 5 'easy' fixtures that we should have taken some points from, before a hard run of games where we will simply have to get results. If we then don't get results in the harder games, we will have a worse record than under Ramos. It won't be good. We do need to start picking up soon.

John Cross was on the Sunday Supplement this morning and was actually quite sympathetic towards AVB and said AVB needs time and backing and that Spurs are in with a great shout of finishing in the top 4

i dont think he wrote that article

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

Andre Villas-Boas insists he felt under no pressure before recording his first victory as Tottenham manager away against Reading on Sunday.

The Portuguese was the subject of speculation about his future, having not won any of his first three games.

But Villas-Boas dismissed such talk after his team's impressive 3-1 Premier League success at the Madejski Stadium.

"I talk to the chairman Daniel Levy every day. I didn't feel under any pressure at all," he said.

He also refused to react to comments by his predecessor Harry Redknapp, appearing to criticise modern managers in the mould of
Villas-Boas who present players with "70-page dossiers".

Villas-Boas said: "It is not about the manager, it is about the players. It is the players that take us to success. Different managers have different leadership styles and the way they go about their business.

"I don't know if Harry was mentioning that about Jose Mourinho but it seems strange. I don't use those situations but in the end the most important thing is for your team and your players to reach a level that is needed for success.

"It doesn't matter if a manager is modern, old-fashioned or old school. The most important thing is you have to feel what is right, feel your convictions. Then you can sell your ideas better and take your players to success."

Villas-Boas admitted there had been anxiety in the Spurs dressing room after a defeat and two draws in their opening three games, but he insisted: "I am extremely happy because the players showed tremendous responsibility, commitment and concentration.

"They have been working so hard and deserve to get this first win. We managed to mix the result and the performance and come out of Reading very satisfied."

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

Gotta give it to AVB today, in spells today we looked awesome! Really reminder me of Porto under AVB moving the ball about fast and very direct in the final third.

Long way to go but that is by far the best performance under AVB

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

Love his passion when we score too

He wants us to succeed and boy how much does he want it !!!

Could hear lots of AVBs blue and white army from the away fans too, a good sign

COYS

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

Even if he claims the pressure from the media isn't getting to him, you can bet that he's glad that we've won our first game.

Hopefully the team will work on trying not to concede late goals from now, or reducing the number at least. I always thought it come down to mentality and fitness, but organisation must play a part as well.

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

Its good to see a manager out of his seat directing the team, not sat down in his chair looking puzzled when you've just conceded 3 goals in 20 minutes to your biggest rivals after being 2 goals up.

Re: **Official** Andre Villas Boas - Head Coach

i would hope the club are about sue or at least complain to the press complaints commission regarding the "AVB has 2 or 3 games to save his job" articles printed over the weekend

a new manager, barely a couple of months into the job, and the press dare insinuate that his job is already on the line?????

If Levy truly believes in AVB and is giving his full backing, he needs to come out and do something about these disgusting rumours and articles
