***Tottenham Hotspur VS Liverpool - Official OMT***

I feel Liverpool are nothing special and if we had gone 442 we would have beaten them. We are a superior team and I think they were there for the taking

I agree, In some ways Im deligthed with last nights result - in others quite disappointed.

So many here (and on other boards) were so worried about last night, about Liverpools form, about our injuries...

and yet we went there and went toe to toe and matched them. Yes they shaded it on possession/attack, but they still couldnt break us down and I had the sense we could have played all night and they never would.

This goes to show just how much we have improved, what resilience we have in the side.

We went to Anfield, wrecked with injury, without a manager (which I believe makes a big difference), on a miserable Monday night and matched a full strength and in form Liverpool blow for blow.

How cool is that?

All that said, I would have taken Kranjcar off for Saha and played 442. Probably with Livermore/Modric rotating on the right in a classic Wonky - Walker making up the width.

I think that would have won it for us

Happy with a point. So what we missed one chance, they missed loads. Depleted team and no Harry I thought we would have got spanked but showed true team spirit. Can't play good football all the time and Bale had an awful game, these things happen.

Considering we don't do well at Anfield at all that's 4 points in the last 2 years. Very happy with that

Honestly mate, this is exactly my problem (not you in particular, but the volume of people who share this idea) - why should we have got spanked?

Havent you noticed just how good we are these days?

Stop with the small time thinking! We arent manged by Jol now!

The other major factor recently has been Redknapp and the trial...take the injured who weren't there, and that's bad enough, but when the manager doesn't make it at the least omen, and hasn't really been around the club for a while, I think it's very unsettling...I was proud of the boys out there last night...yes, wish we'd nicked it, but as it stands, if we got third and the FA Cup I'd be delighted!

and matched in form Liverpool blow for blow.

In what ways did you see us matching them blow for blow?

I remember prolonged periods of the game where we couldn't come out of our half. I'd hate to see us matching other teams like that because it was awful and sad to watch being suffocated out of possession and pressed to the brim

Totally agree, our pressing game was non existent as well. They had lots of players who could be pressured easily into losing possession yet we stood of them.

We struggled to put together any real attacking moves, but they had no answer to our defensive game at all.

A supposed full strength Liverpool.

I thought we matched anything they threw at us.

And then in instances like around the 40th minute where we bult a 30+ pass move at which point they couldnt even touch the ball we simply embarrassed them.

Such a shame Bale couldnt nick it at the end.

Sorry, but your post paints a (largerly innacurate, imv) picture of an even draw and to be quite honest it wasn't the case for most of the game. Apart from that brief spark towards the 40th minute and Bale's 1v1 miss we were pinned back and hoofing aimlessly forward. Yes, we defended well but that is ALL we could do for most of the game which in my mind is a poor display since we couldn't control the tempo/rhythm nor pose any substantial attacking threat. Not the team we've been watching scoring in 22 consecutive games prior

We were pressed from the get-go and KK for all the ribbing he gets did his homework well and figured a possession/passing team is toothless without the ball which is what they did well for most of the game - and which is what cloggers can do if nothing else. Half a decent striker would have put their chances away.

I appreciate the whole 'let's look at positives' spin many are looking to bring in this morning but let's not be ostriches either, please. Call it fair, when it's fair

you fickle bunch. It was a solid performance against a very good side. Let??s not get ahead of ourselves. It??s not long ago that we were played out of the park everytime we showed up at Anfield

But before the game many did scientific anlysis proving we're MUCH better than them man for man

Point is - we need a Plan B against hard-pressing cloggers

Who would have thought playing one less attacking player in favour of a 'solid' midfielder would leave us shorn of attacking intent and sat back defending for much of the game?

I would have imagined that instead we would have enjoyed a high possession rate and had lots of attaccking impteus, considering all the space our attacking players should have enjoyed....
your sarcasm sucks. 0-0 against good opposition away from home with loads of injuries = thank GHod for 4-3-3.

They had 52% possession and 6 more shots (only 4 more on target)

Doesnt strike me as such a one sided affair at all.

We enjoyed a fair bit of possession and got into their half frequently, we just couldnt get any sort of final ball or genuine penetration - much like them.

Yes they edged it, but not by much.

As to plan B, wouldnt you suggest with Kaboul, VDV, Lennon all out what we did was already a plan B?

One that matched a supposed form team, on their own patch, and should arguably had taken 3 points-still cant believe Bale missed that 1 on 1

Nayim, not sure if you wathced the game but we most certainly didn't match them. Not for 80% of the timeat least and were pinned back continously defending for our lives under pressure

How can you possibly suggest it was an even game is beyond me. Our midfield was non-existent, ffs. They controlled the tempo and rhythm, we resorted to hoofing at the back and occasional push and run by Bale. Yes, we fought hard to that point but were second best on the night in most departments.

this.

Perhaps you should watch it again, because that certainly isnt the game I saw.

They huffed and puffed and did fudge all.

We defended like trojans, and couldnt break them down either - but still enjoyed plenty of the ball and passed it brilliantly under pressure to retain possession at times.

Yes it was more they attack/we defend over all but we matched everything they had - and ultimately should/could have won it near the end.

I suspect the late rear guard action as affected your perception of the entire game.

We werent great, but we werent lucky to get away with a point either

I thought first half was even. Posession was probably about 50-50 with neither team dominating the other. We typically passed the ball around a lot more than Liverpool - who preferred to get it forward early with the long ball to Carroll (who I thought held the ball up really well last night).

In the second half Liverpool came into it more and we got pinned back in our own half, having to defend wave after wave of attack. Even then we had the best opportunity of the game to actually nick the win when Kranjcar put Bale through one on one. Our problem really was that the central 3 midfielders + Kranjcar were just too deep. This created too big a gap between the defensive 8 and Adebayor and Bale up front leading to us either having to hit it very long or play intricate passing in dangerous areas of the pitch.

The one time we did get some posession in a good area Krancjar was able to put Bale in one on one due to Liverpool's very high back line (really pressing us). Had Harry have been there I think he may have got Kranjcar into that area halfway between our penalty area and the half way line to have taken advantage of ths more. However it would've been a gamble on our part as he was also needed to help deal with Liverpool getting their fullbacks so far forward.

A definite point gained I'd say. While Liverpool are clearly not the team they used to be and we have better technical fooballers than them, they still play with an energy and a tempo at home and push the opposition back.

I cannot leave this without a world for our defending.... Every one of them defended like their lives depended on it - it is difficult to pick any of them out indiviually really as they all stuck to their tasks so well. Friedel was brave when he needed to be and judged whether to stay on his line or come out perfectly. He also stayed alert and positioned himself so his saves were all reasonably routine. Walker and Ekotto defended their flanks really well, they were up against two good players in Kjuit and Bellamy and often facing a fullback overlapping as well and they always took the right option in which player to go to or which player to track. King and Daws were exemplary, both put their bodies on the line and they dealt with almost everything that was thrown at them. Parker was his usual lion hearted self, tracking runs, putting himself in where it hurt and also always offering for the ball (until it became a complete backs to the wall defensive action) and Livermore played as though he has been playing in this team for years. He shows no signs of being a young player promoted from the academy who is in his first season in the top flight. I was worried at the start of the season when it was revealed he turned down a loan move to West Ham, but fair play to him - I think he knew that he was good enough to play a big part in our season.

Let's now hope we can get Lennon and VDV back for Saudi Sportswashing Machine and get our attacking game back on track (as we'll need to be just as good defensively to stop Cisse and Ba - who will cause us different types of problems to Liverpool's front 3 yesterday).
