Gareth Bale

I just don't think it is a 'disgrace'. Sure if he becomes a real play acter and constantly diving by all means have a go. I just don't see it with him. He may get petulant sometimes, and want to try and get one over on the same players who are kicking him throughout, but he isn't a cynical imo. But just an opinion and not an excuse.

@TheRealMonkeyBoy Screw you guys, gonna agitate for a move to Chelbrick in the summer, where the fans don't diss the playahs for diving, innit.

Correct. My point (perhaps not best explained) is that instead of taking the footrace on, and angling his challenge/run to try and either anticipate the knock-on OR jockey Bale, Agger has already made his mind up to play the player/ball, thus his entire posture in defending the situation is 'all at once through the lot'...Bale nicks the ball past him but obviously feels the crunch is coming. Agger pulls out at the last second, despite the intent being there/enough to put Bale off. Bale gets out of the way of what he thinks is coming, it doesn't come, he looks like he's diving when there is no reason at all for him to dive!
You/Wriggly, etc, are obviously entitled to your opinions, but I think we are also entitled to ours and our reading of it. Agger had time to out his arms in the air and gesture that he was pulling out, instead he carried on and pulled out at the last second; he 'played' the situation.

We agree with what the situation was, he expects contact and goes down even though he doesn't get touched. He must know there was no contact, my issue is why is he claiming the foul afterwards?

If he just gets back up and gets on with it then fine, but he's asking for the free kick when there has been no contact which just isn't on IMO

It was disappointing the way he "dived" without being touched. Don't think it was the first time he had done that this season. For all his skills and trickery, he doesn't have to do that. But more disappointing was the way he pushed away the Liverpool players after being confronted. He could have been sent off for that.
I guess it is part of Bale's game that we cannot do anything about.

All the great players have a few negative traits in their play. Remember Ginola and his constant diving ?

To dive or not to dive, that seems to be the question these days in the Premiership. My motto is: real men don’t dive. Well, at least not unless -for whatever reason- you’re weak at the knee. In that case you have no business to be on the pitch in the first place. To add insult to injury some of these ‘drieswimmers’ try to get their opponent yellow- or even red carded. I mean: really, how low can you go? There’s simply no excuse for such foul behavior.

He got twitted by Skrtel in the first-half and nothing was said, Adam tried to taco him again and slapped him in the face, nothing was done, he obviously felt that Agger had little intention of trying to play the actual ball, and was only interested in the man (true) so I think it was more exasperation at the lack of protection. All night the bin dippers went to taco him. Now personally, I think he needed to be braver at the beginning , get up after that first Skrtel nobbling and laugh right in Skrtel's face rather than let him know he doesn't like the treatment...but I still think he had a point re: Agger. As evidenced when 15 mins late, Skrtel got close to cracking his shin in two, the dirty thuggish mug...

Didnt think it was that close of a comparison tbh. Then i had a look at the rest of Cristiano's stats and Bale would have to turn it on from this point forward..

Ronaldo went on to score 31 the next year and 18 the following in the Prem. Call me pessimistic, but i really dont think Bale will ever get to that level.

Can't believe there are people having a pop a Bale on here. The dippers tried to break him in half on several occasions. Possibly even dirtier than Stoke. Two tactics - kick the opposition off the park and hoof the ball to the donkey.

I think the reason Bale reacted the way he did is due to the fact Agger appeared to be swinging straight at him and not aiming for the ball at all. So if Gareth didn't pull out could have ended up badly for his shin. i.e. The intent was malicious

I'm not entirely sure if it was a dive. It felt to me like he was jumping out of the way of Aggers kick and was hence very frustrated at being stopped. Really he shouldn't have to have his leg gashed to have a freekick.

However I do think Bale has a very worrying tendency to roll around crying after the slightest of touches. That really upsets me.

you know what, this is going to sound bad...but, i'm actually okay with gareth doing that you know.

if it means our most important asset doesnt get injured then i am all for it

i'm sure people would rather he leave his leg out there , just like ramsey

if bale can see a hard challenge coming then get the fudge out of the way and if the player doesnt get the ball then drop and expose the dangerous tackle

My only complaint about Bale was that he was like a tribute act to himself
looked a bit like him, but just a pale imitation of the real thing.

I'm with the crowd that think he was anticipating getting chopped and GTF out of the way - good for him. Every time he touched the ball it was like a remake of Shaun of the Dead, with a load of bloodstained corpses chasing him around

Were you all this forgiving when Ronaldo and Nani were at the peak of their diving?

Bale's a fudging exceptional player but he doesn't need that brick. He's not some pansy little winger, he's a big, powerful boy and should be able to give as good as he gets when it comes to thugs like Skrtel. Some of you are sounding dangerously like Arsenal fans.

Agreed

Agger is the captain of my national team, but he's a chav to the bone and a nasty piece of work, despite being a brilliant footballer (hampered by chronic muscle injuries).

I don't like him one bit and wouldn't be suprised to see him do a Terry.

from football365, which i somewhat think is a reasonable observation...

"A quick word about the 'dive' Bale was booked for. Now, if you watch the incident closely, you'll see Daniel Agger move to put in quite a hefty challenge, but pull away slightly. If Bale had not gone down, he would most likely have been wiped out by the big Dane, and as we know there doesn't necessarily have to be contact for a free kick to be given. It was a tricky call for Michael Oliver (who had a pretty decent game), but Bale has a right to feel slightly hard done to."

The most disappointing thing about Bale diving is he is not good at that. He is so amateurish ! He makes it very obvious for all to see. He should learn the art from experienced divers from other teams. Also, why dive in the middle of the field ? Atleast if he does that inside the goalmouth, there is every chance he can win us a penalty !

But the problem is the refs will soon start to target him that even genuine fouls against him won't be given. I remember when Ginola was doing that, the refs made a video about that to use as evidence and as a result we were not being given genuine penalties for 1 or 2 seasons after that.

pretty much this.

I just think until people have millions attached to their name through sheer commercial value, until they actually have the talent that puts butt cheeks in chairs and raises the profile / name of a club or area...then much like how they say throw x amount of million at a player, they will find it easy to say bale shouldnt dive and shouldnt shirk from challenges. after all it isnt their leg and it isnt their careers.

@hootnow and BAE.......so what do you want bale to do exactly when he thinks a dangerous tackle is coming? how does he discourage those tackles?

in the case of agger.....he actually sticks his leg out for me, doesnt get the ball , the evasive manoeuvres bale takes doesnt allow bale to carry on the momentum he had which would have legally beaten agger hands down, so bale loses out to an agger show and tell, foul. cause if you're saying that bale shouldnt have moved away from that then you're saying that bale should keep going until he gets hit....yes?
