Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

The Lyon chairman just said this about LLoris on French radio a minute ago:

"At the moment, i'll think he'll stay, but you never know, if Tottenham sell Modric to Madrid then things will move on"

I didn't think Caulker was all that last year - he was OK but got a lot of his plaudits because he is young - he seemed to be out of position a lot when I saw goals on MotD but I didn't watch full games often

I imagine Dawson is a better defender than Caulker at this point in time, and is basically Club Captain

So you haven't been watching games but concluded this? But they wanted to take him back for more punishment? Right. And you said he had no experience. But he does. Now having not watched him he's not good enough. Ok.

Only real complaint I had about Caulker last year was a lack of willingness to take responsibility. Williams constantly lead him through games by the hand and Caulker was always looking for Williams to prompt him into action. It was clear he handled anything he went into, showed a great deal of ability and certainly didnt let Swansea down (as a premier league defender, shouldnt be forgotten) but he does IMO need to "man up" a bit.

Its only natural really, he is a rookie defender, but it is IMO the thing he needs to work on more than anything.

When he does I think he will be one hell of a player.

Good info. This one has last minute written all over it. Be good though to get a longterm keeper in.

I'd love it if we signed Willian. Proper spurs player. Fast, skilful, creative, aggressive (in that he takes people on). Fantastic player, and I do think we need someone who can cover for Bale or Lennon, although if Willian signed I'm sure he'd start with Lennon covering

Don't know much about Willian, but I'll always welcome a good new player to Spurs.

And yes, we probably need cover on the wings. I'd have no issue with AVB bringing in either a promising young winger or a utility player like Kranjcar who can cover that position, but we certainly don't need to spend big to upgrade our wingers. Not when there are other priorities for our budget. Lennon is one of our best players. In fact with the loss of Modric, he's potentially our best player in my view (and I'm including Bale in that assessment). Bringing in an expensive right-winger is arguably the very last thing we need to be doing this window.

Yeah. But he's injury prone and 28. Caulker is probably at the same level, far far faster and athletic and is what? 6 years younger. I understand why he's been chosen.

Can tell how much the press want to get AVB. Mirror back page tomorrow is 'done up like a skipper: AVB tells Dawson he is the captain...then flogs him to qpr'. Never let the truth get in the way of a nice attack hey...

Did you miss the full season of premier league football he played, to acclaim, at Swansea last year?

To be honest, beyond MOTD footage (which we can all agree is no way to judge a player) I didn't see much of him last year. He looked out of his depth when he was playing for England though (but again, I'm genuinely not judging him on one performance). I know he was considered a success at Swansea, so I was wrong to suggest that he still had to "step up to premiership level"... he clearly has done that. Is he ready to step up to our level though? Brilliant if he is, and I'm rooting for him. I just think we could do with a fifth CB... to cover all eventualities.

I saw someone on the Bluemoon forum suggest that he couldn't understand why Dawson had been made captain and then sold. I wondered at the time where he had got that info from. I'm sure AVB has said (publicly?) that he would wait until the end of the transfer window and then name his captain. I could be wrong though.

AVB did say a few seemingly contradictory things but actually did not name Dawson as captain. In fact he said it was up to the group of players and would become clearer when the window was closed. It may be that Dawson had the chance to stay but is considering his first team prospects.

Miaow!

I explained it in my post so... Whatever

He said that Dawson was captain until the window closed in his press conference last Thursday

We'll sign Damaio and miss out on Llorente I reckon.

I'd love that. I agree with the earlier post that we need an 'up and comer' with Ade now secure.

On an unrelated note, the way Levy has dealt with Madrid may benefit us when Barca/City come sniffing around Bale again. If they didn't know before they're now surely under no illusion that we will not be mugged off when it comes to our marquee players. I am quite proud of him for that.

Remember that summer when Levy and some of the board went and had discussions with Madrid over players, Robben was mentioned but nothing came out of it, then VDV popped up, always thought it was down to those initial meetings. No way we'll get that off them after these negotiations :D geezer levy.

Got a feeling that one of Llorente/Damaio will be signed.....personally I would love it to be Llorente. Suddenly the window wouldn't look too shabby at all.

Tema Modric - @realmadrid Detalle a tener en cuenta. El Tottenham fichó a Adebayor está tarde y cerrará el fichaje de Willian del Shakhtar.
Last part suggests we are close to signing Willian

At no time was Dawson made "club captain" he was just made captain for pre season matches. AVB intimated he would announce his captain at the end of August
