Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Why is hardly anyone taking into consideration our injuries? Hearing all of these podcasts, radio shows, tv programs etc and they are all mentioning us being Spur sy and that the honey moon period is over yet we have our 2 first choice cb’s out, we had our whole midfield out injured / banned in the last game and now also have our saviour who has just come back from injury to help us in our time of need getting injured yet nothing mentioned? Hate to be that guy but if this was Liverpool or Arsenal they would all be making excuses for them.
And Keane with a straight face said City were missing KDB as he is massive for them. Wasn't he out for most of a season one season and they still won the league?? Absolute joke. And we still went toe to toe with them with our 3rd squad.

Please let us beat the Hammers. Play like like we did against Villa and take our chances....batter them!

Because Spurs fans are idiots and lap it up ...

Media is clickbait, and Spurs fans are the worse at falling for it, if City has Rodri & KDB injured, how can poor Pep cope with it? if Klopp has Salah injured, you need to understand (despite them having 19 other attackers), if we put out our fudging under 18's due to injuries, sexy ..

Same as everyone raging on the club now because the club has "let Ange down" with not having cover in every position ...
But that problem has been there before Ange got here. Eg. Not moving players on

His interview about not putting a limit on what can be achieved and the style he wants is music to my ears TBH. Its about creating a style and identity to the side and club which lets be honest we have been lacking since forever. Its sets out the landscape for everyone and anyone, that includes players we have and those who may come in the future, its very much "this is our style and you can either cut it or you can't and if you can't those that can will". His staunch defence of that and the players is very Fergie for me and thats not a bad thing at all. It may yet fail long term but Spurs have needed this for so long now.

Players will want to come and play for Ange also, which is not a bad thing whatsoever

Totally agree, fear of failure restricts performance, the freedom to express yourself helps the individual and the team.

In such a short time Postrrcoglu has transformed the playing side of the club. All the team play in the same style, pressing, moving ball quickly, switching positions and on the front foot. I watch all the academy games on Spursplay and it's obvious that his philosophy runs throught the teams. He's bought back the pride I feel for the club.

Ange got Vicario, VDV, Maddison, Johnson, Udogie for first team, plus incorporated Porro & Sarr (both had effectively less than 6 months playing time with us) and added Solomon, Veliz, Ashley to squad, that's 7 first team changes and 3 to squad depth. Asking for more either from the ability to incorporate or finances in one window is not understanding how this works (look at Chelsea's 20+ player change).

Fans will always shout the narrative without thinking, if we had bought another CB as depth and another position went down "why didn't we buy that position?"

Re moving players on, it's been done to death, clearly the financial situation of clubs in Europe has effected that, the wages of some of our players and managers who were potentially less clear, all contribute. We will lose a few by contract run downs this summer and I fully expect come next season, probably only Son & Davies will be in the 25 man squad that was here for Poch.

I agree with you to a certain extent, and I think we are all aware we will never be a City or Chelsea. And there has been extreme circumstances for what has happened with injures etc.

We have a new set up now, and I hope it continues to work. I was merely mentioning our set up under previous managers with getting players early, getting rid etc. Which has been a problem at times long before covid. Like you said it has been done to death, but our past decisions good and bad, is why we are here. I hope Ange gets the people, and that we are able to do it early like he wants.

Yep, my personal perspective is the club player acquisition model has had three stages

- from the Keane/Berbatov days until about Son -> generally good, JD, Keane, Carrick, Bale, Modric, VDV, Lloris, Walker, Jan, Toby, Eriksen, Dembele, Son
- End of Poch era until Paratici -> pretty much brick and overpriced
- Paratici until now -> quite good -> Romero, Bentancur, Kulu, Udogie, Bissouma, Maddison, Vicario, VDV

To your point, still some improvements needed on the outs, but on the last 2-3 years the recruitment is vastly improved

He's a Spurs fan too apparently...

Not sure what he is:

I can’t ever remember you saying who your team is…

Off the record – entirely off the record – Spurs. Actually, you know what, you can write that but you have to also write the full story. And that’s that my first team is Spurs and my second team is Arsenal. It’s a very clear one-two. They’re not joint favourites by any means, but I do like them both.

How does that happen?

I come at things very logically and rationally. And while Spurs is a very emotional thing, that came from school days, as I grew older I started to question ‘why do I instinctively have to hate Arsenal? I admire their manager, I admire their football.’ And Spurs and Arsenal are demographically the same, there’s no sectarian split there. They’re the same. They should merge. They really should merge. I’m a North London fan.

Came across this from 2 weeks ago not sure it has been mentioned before, Jonathan Liew being a bit weird about Ange...

A contrarian. People like him so i don't. Because people don't know him, including me.

There is a word for people like him. That i shouldn't post. I just call them CLINT.

There is a reason managers with a system like to bring in young players.

Energy, low ego, high ceiling and willingness to be coached.

Poch did it, pep did it, Klopp, Arteta.

Have a squad of egos for a system never seems to work. We are a very young team now as well and the older players we have are not full of themselves.

funny I was watching a highlight reel yesterday of Sonny's goals against city and in one early one he skinned Clichy, went around Zabaleta and poked it past the bald old keeper they had - Caballero I think?

That got me thinking that Pep didn't have a monster squad to start with - you look at the team now versus then and honestly they are far more established and elite in terms of the team make-up. Despite that City were formidable to play against and won stuff back then.

I really hope we're in the same place now. Ange is getting a tune out of a number of players cast aside by Jose and clame and has a system that is buys him so much more time to implement the squad transition he wants. Lets face it out of the first teamers on the playing staff at the moment Lloris, Emerson, Dier, Rodon, Reguilon, Hojberg, Ndombelly, Skipp, Richarlison, Spence, Tanganga, are probably not here to stay, while Sessegnon and Perisic have been injured and thus not played much if at all.

If we move those guys out over the next 12-18 months while bringing through youngsters and a few key signings in the positions we know we're light, my GHod teams are going to fear us - cos we will fear nobody.

I'm hoping we're Ange's last job - he can have 10 years with us and teach Mason or Kane or whoever how to do what he does and we have a boot room.

with high intensity systems you also get along better with younger hungrier players. The likes of Reggi and Ndombele have been moved out on loan for exactly that reason, they just won't work hard enough. That was Poch's issue early doors with the "clique" he had to get rid of with Adebayor and Kaboul and the like not keen on the workload.

At this level there's skill in all players, but Ange is after hard working strong characters who won't shirk when it goes wrong. Which if you look that description up in the football dictionary, you would find a picture of James Maddison....

and that is interesting. I never would have classified him like that before we signed him. Now I do. Kulu is the same, Son etc.
