Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

What would you term major success? I think even @glasgowspur is being very ambitious by saying 2 or 3 domestic trophies, a European trophy and consistent top 4 finishes.

For me, if we keep him for 5 years under this ownership model, I'd take consistent top 6 finishes with a few top 4 finishes and a domestic trophy or two as huge success. I know sometimes you can get a little run of trophies once you win one but we haven't won one in 15 years (and haven't won a big one in 32 years) so if Ange breaks that duck, he's done brilliantly. I'd also add the above must be achieved playing entertaining football but I think that's a given with Ange.

I think we will challenge for the title next year and I honestly think we are on the cusp of something as a club which will see us become regular challengers. In massive part for the reasons I droned on about the other day. Anyway with all that combined I have Ange nailed on to win things with us

For years Spurs have had some excellent players, then played defensively, inviting pressure and putting all of the focus onto some weak defenders.

Now we are playing front-foot football and other teams fear us.

Our future success depends on the quality of our signings i.e. we know we will spend a reasonable chunk of money on each problem position, but will we pick the right player?
Most of our big signings have been duds for various reasons, which has attached anchor after anchor after anchor to the good ship Tottenham. But with Ange at the helm and Lange setting the nets and erm other fishy stuff, we will be right up there challenging.

Put out a team that should have beat villa? Seem to remember in the summer many of our fans thinking we'd finish lower in the league than them. With a squad not blighted by injuries and suspensions.

We also put out a team that would have beaten villa if they didn't kick Bentancur off the pitch.

There are probably more big money signings in the prem, that have been misses. Than successes.

There is a massive premium to buy well then spend loads, always has been. Chelsea and City have and in Chelsea case still do bought loads to cover the failures and could afford to double down. Even if we spent better we don't and never had the cash to do that.

For all our failures we are 10 points or so ahead of a club like Chelsea who I could tell what their plan is after spending a bn on players.

I take hope from us seemingly having a plan and a manager with a strong vision and style. Yes we need to back him but there is more to it than huge spend, always has been

We used to be amazing at it. Had almost a zero net spend on players for almost a decade. Yet still improved. Then the stadium was built and we just wasted money.

Go back to what worked. With better funds. Vicario, udogie, van der ven are players we should be going for.

Having a manager that understands that is a must.

Over this last four games we have seen Ange will stick to his system no matter what. It's not gone smooth but. I like it..

Under poch we had a great system but whenever we played other good teams we could not maintain the press or play out under pressure.

It's early days. But we are playing our way no matter the opposition.

Over that 4 game spread since we lost most of our team I have seen this:

Chelsea: total right off of a game. But we played our way. Almost scraped something..

Wolves: this is the game that stands out for me. We played players that wanted to drop back.. Dier has paid the price for this.

Villa: we had so many chances. Our CB pairing though they tried hard. That lost us the game.

City: we got a lot of luck. But stuck at it.

The Wolves game says a lot to me. Ange was annoyed what they did and how they played. You play his way or you don't play at all.

Can't wait to just get 1 or 2 more players back.

Won't get into the Poch debate but I think we look a better/more dangerous team via the system with Ange

What is undisputed is vs. all of our previous managers, the b players are contributing, even those who were previously outcasts/failures, and our performances against top teams is commendable.

This fudging guy will not compromise, if on 3 losses in row, with 12 players out, you go away to City and refuse to play even slightly defensively, you refuse to play your only recognized available CB (because he isn't good enough), you never will.

I hope we can stay it long enough to get the players back, a couple of buys in January and allow us to push on later in season.

Postecoglu will not accept negative/passive/cowardly play.

So often on here we say that we don't like player X, when what we mean is, we don't like the way player X is choosing to play.

E.g. Skipp can be excellent IF he chooses and is brave enough to dribble and pass forwards and be positive.

His interview about not putting a limit on what can be achieved and the style he wants is music to my ears TBH. Its about creating a style and identity to the side and club which lets be honest we have been lacking since forever. Its sets out the landscape for everyone and anyone, that includes players we have and those who may come in the future, its very much "this is our style and you can either cut it or you can't and if you can't those that can will". His staunch defence of that and the players is very Fergie for me and thats not a bad thing at all. It may yet fail long term but Spurs have needed this for so long now.

Players will want to come and play for Ange also, which is not a bad thing whatsoever

Skipp is an interesting one. My view on him is that he is a good tidy little player. But does not suit our system now, he is not quick enough and is more of a sideways defensive mid. But maybe he just needs to get the Conte out of his system? he showed some small signs of being able to play the Ange way in yesterdays game. Be interesting to see if he is worth retaining. I was in the Sell Camp for him for sure.

I don't see Skipp (same as PEH) getting into a full midfield set that include Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr, Lo Celso & Maddison

Agreed. But with three midfield positions.. We need cover for each. Anyway. Centre mid is the least of our worries..
