Brennan Johnson

In football today the fees for players have gone through the roof ( madness) so its pointless moaning about how high/low we/other clubs have to pay for players. Its pointless and all that matters is IF Ange wants certain players we pay what it takes and what we can afford. There is very few ( if any) bargins around and we as fans have to accept it.

and it’s not coincidence that the players making the difference this season are the two proven prem players… Bissouma and Maddison. If you have this spend big money it mitigates the risks

I’ve never seen Bakayoko so can’t comment but he has played 43 times for PSV and scored 7 goals
Johnson played one more game last season and scored 10 goals
In a team that was struggling and a real mess

For what it’s worth I’m not convinced we will get the deal some because of the price relative to the outgoings needed. We need the outgoings before we buy again IMO

Sorry where did i say the word proven?

Goals aren't everything. Bakayokos stats are insane. Compare the 2 on fbref. Yes different leagues. But bakayoko is 2 years younger aswell.

I'm not saying johnson is a bad player. Just i'm not convinced he is worth that sort of money and the wages that will come with it. Ange obviously sees something i don't which is fine. I'll trust his judgement.

The fee does matter though, if we want more than one player. Ange has said he wants another cb. Also the wages matter.

I haven't said not to sign him. I've said if ange wants him fair enough.

As you say if Ange wants him then that is all that matters. Fees are crazy for sure and i do not see that changing.

Most fees have gone higher this window, are they still deals to be done? sure but there are a lot that have been ( compered to other windows) a lot higher then usual. We as fans have to accept that ( mainly because there is nothing we can do about it). I have said many times over the years the vast majority of transfers dealings are a risk and that is not only us but most clubs have found that out. As the old saying goes " you touch yourself and take the risk".

I wouldn’t touch a player with one season under his belt personally
I’d need to know a lot lot more for the money they would want
Unless of course we’re talking £10m, then that’s well worth the gamble

Worth highlighting that 2 I’d them had one year left (Maddison and Bissouma) so would have cost double or treble their fees
Sarr was a prospect not dissimilar to the kid you mention from PSV, same with destiny too
Van der ven we have paid a lot for, but he looks great already. Bentacur and Kulu was exploiting Juventus fudged finances
Johnson is a player than Forrest dint want to sell. It’s a different market so a different fee

I'm not getting your point? My point is there are deals out there for whatever reason. I haven't pulled bakayoko or orbans names out of my arse. We are linked with both and allegedly have talked to their clubs about them. So it's not as if ange doesn't want them.

Your quoting the fee for Johnson and relating it to other transfers
You talked about crazy fees in reference to the rumoured fee for Johnson
Arguably £42m for VDV is crazy considering he hasn’t played for his country
But so far, so bloody good
I really like Orban and unlike most I’ve actually seen him play. he could be anything and if a sensible fee can be agreed he has goals in him and 2 years if experience
I can’t comment on the other lad as I’ve never seen him play. Just googled the fee and it’s £25m upwards… that’s a lot to gamble on a lad with one season under his belt. He could be the next Robben for all I know

What I can guarantee is that if his name was Brenaldo Johndino and he had scored 10 goals playing for a mishmash of a side (over 20% of their goals) in a top 3 European league we would be very excited for him. We have fans lining for Gil to stay who hasn’t done anything like a Johnson has done and okays the same position and has cost us £40m

Hahahaha, I have said this for years, not everyone but there are some who want change for change sake (Not aimed at Baz). You see it all over the place, people want transfers, its sexy, players from abroad are even sexier, in some cases, with reason. But the way people lose their heads over players they never have seen not signing, that will never get old....

We paid £34.5m for van der ven.

It's got fudge all to do with johnson being english. It has everything to do with the fact that apart from pace he has little else.

26 goals and 10 assist in his last 2 season I’ve just read
That’s great numbers for a young player
It’s just odd to me that I’ve read in many places it’s too much money
The money is what it is but I’m 100% certain if he had a few more vowels in his name it would be more palatable to some
The Belgian lad at PSV could be brilliant. I don’t know
I do think Johnson is very good, young player with a lot of good attributes
Things that I think Ange sees in him
And his dad has mad3 sure he has had a real football upbringing too so he doesn’t have an ego from what I know of him
Be nice to have a Welsh wing wizard back here too

What makes me laugh is I have read in some quarters that its a Levy signing, but that its too much money. A year ago that would have insinuated that it would be cheap. There was a post on here the other day along the lines of "why are people worried about what we spend, its not their money" not its too expensive. Just all seems abit OTT

The end of this window is going to be wild, probably the wildest we have known. I suspect alot of lost heads come the end of it...

He has the sudden pace and ability with the ball to go past an opponent from a near-standing start rather than just from running at them. That's going to be useful from the flanks under our system when we are trying to push and pen the opposition back and there's less space to work with
