Guglielmo Vicario

But we're talking about transitioning him from a #1 to a #2, with potential extra coaching responsibilities (we don't have a GK coach remember).

The 'go back to France' thing is maybe lazy. I know he's talked about the romance of finishing his career with Nice. But also remember he's been here for 11 years, so none of his children have ever lived there (London is France's 6th biggest city after all).

Im not sure its lazy when he has spoken about it and its being compared with the idea he might be willing to sit on the bench and remain as a coach. He won't stay to be a number 2, he will eek out the last year or two playing as a number 1 at a club that can afford him that luxury and lets be fair, regardless of what people think of him, he has earned that right

Most players that move into coaching straight away from playing do so when they might need the finances, usually lower level that happens, for players of Lloris level they generally take a break and get their head round their career.

I was thinking in general - it's often surprising how many foreign players never 'go home'. Mendieta famously still lives in Middlesborough for some reason. I often play against random ex-Wednesday and United overseas players who have just settled in the area and dropped down the leagues (Miguel Llera and Yoann Folly).

I was also thinking that Postie is apparently known for promoting young coaches internally, rather than bringing his own crew with him.

I saw a video of this guy and he looks properly brick, literally pushes every ball back out into danger. Reminds me a bit of Pickford the way he jumps and tries to make his body bigger.

Yeh look he might do, I personally don't see it as I say, been a long career, I see him going for 2 years with someone as an extension of his career and a rest.

Said that yesterday
He really does play like Pickford

....and the obvious one that he is probably on a decent wage...gets that off the books.

Get in, looks a tasty prospect.

Nice to get two done in a week (Fingers crosses), even if one was a renewal.

Are you sure? He struggles to hold on to the ball and seems to continually pat the ball into open play in front of him instead of pushing the ball to the side.

No thats why I used the word prospect. But he is highly thought of in Italy and Buffon called him the future Italian number 1, so I am willing to give him more than a Youtube chance at Spurs. Its about what he does in our shirt, not social media

If we sign him I sincerely hope you are right.

It's funny reading some posters on here. Didn't know who he was until yesterday evening, seen a video of him and now he's brick/another Pickford or whatever else. If only our scouting network thought to watch this video when doing their extensive analysis, and we should ignore what is said about him in Italy - The GG YouTube analysis is far more reliable, I'm going to listen to that....

Opinions are fine, scepticism also as are people seeing it as positive.

But there is a massive part of the base that goes in early and undoubtedly made up their mind. If you are calling him out on his transfer fee alone, the nature of that means you think he is crap. I learnt a long time ago to ignore the price at both ends of the spectrum.

There will be those using him to get to Levy, its being proven already, shame really but is what it is

Bang on (I would say 17-20m for an established good keeper sounds about right to me, not too much or too little considering he is coming from an average sized Italian club). It seems there are some simpletons out there that can't understand when you are on a budget you are going to have to make compromises. 'Just pay the money' = using up more of your budget and not having enough left for other areas that need addressing. History shows that lower priced but smart signings that fit the profile of the team ethos and league are more successful than the big signings. Since the overhaul of our scouting network I have more faith in what we are doing - Betancur, Kulu, Sarr (I'd say Porro too but some still aren't sure about him) and more.

Spending decent amounts on players that arent huge and with the potential to become better and easily worth more than what we paid, and this GK sounds like another one. I think we are heading in the right direction in our rebuild, the CB Tapsoba sounds like another one in this mould and it seems like for all the whinging when people don't have a clue what's actually going on, it seems like there has been a plan all geared towards this summer and beyond.....

:D

I believe that one of the top keepers shown (Flekken) is the guy that Brentford have just bought as their Raya succession plan.
As far as Vicario goes, this sends a good message for our first transfer (not including Deki) insofar as it shows we aren't allowing it to drag on for weeks while we fiddle through price negotiations for a key position but instead have more than one option we'll go for.

Yes! Exactly this. Just get this over the line, and it'll send a message to future potential deals. Don't faff about.

Pickford is a very good keeper so ‘another Pickford’ would do fine.

I agree here. I think our budget will be rather limited this summer. Spending £40m on a keeper would probably leave very little to sign a centre back. Spending £17m on a keeper will leave us maybe £20 to £30m for a centre back and then after that we can buy further players with income from sales.
