Sounds like Ange also fits that remit plus he is about our level of manager we can attract.

Take into account the state of our squad and our lack of resources (due to enics near zero tolerance approach to providing additional funding to support the team) and its clear if enic stay we are on a medium to long term trajectory of ending between 6th and 8th. And that’s assuming things go well!

Therefore Ange is about the best we can hope for and on the subject of hope we can only hope he can surprise us all.
If we end up with Ange it would be very disappointing. He's much of nothing. Not overly exciting football, not done anything remotely exciting or unexpected, not young, not any new or radical ideas. He's not well connected around in Europe either, so no chance of bringing players with him (unless CCV and Hart is the level).
He's basically Nuno with more attacking football. It won't end good, and it will end. Sooner rather than later.

With the state of our squad and resources Ange is about our level.

Why we are in the state we are in is another question altogether but reality is what it is.

We have a very capable squad, who is seriously underperforming. The squad is better than a lot of teams above us. Need a GK and preferably 2 CB's and a creative midfielder. There's lots of talent there, and a good mix of youth and experience.

Make that 101 times…

Some people are here to moan about the club, others about the fans and you two fit in those catagories rather succinctly. And you both might be right, maybe we are doomed and the fans are a bunch of pricks ;)

It's only my opinion but there's not much point debating with a "back in my day" poster. It's like trying to convince a Churchill dog to stop nodding, it's inherently in their nature.

On the club front going via your recent posts, it's only a suggestion but it might be worth considering that there is a potential situation where things go well and we find the right combination in terms of dof / manager. People will have a go at you for suggesting 6th to 8th is the best we can hope for, it's a reasonable prediction but it is fun to hope for better as unlikely as it may be.

Edit - To make this post thread relevant, it will be fascinating to see where we end up and how the fan base will feel about it. Conte departing was predictable but the DOF getting banned from football was less so, although hiring from the match fixers was probably a giveaway.

I just hope for a promising new direction the fans and the players can get behind. Not returning to old ways (ie Poch) and not going for folks that just don't suit our mentality/ ethos (ie serial winners).

I'd be happy with 6/8th next season if we played entertaining football.

So half the team need replacing ....

Fair summary TBH

I am ok with 6th to 8th based on the fact we are likely to go through a summer of redefining the management structure and the time its
going to take to bed that in. As long as their are positive green shoot of something being put in place and the footballs half palatable.

I like to enjoy the day and the game not endure them.

I was thinking about that, when we were at our best under Poch, I didn’t enjoy it, because every point was vital, every game was absolute must win, yes we were playing well, but the two seasons where the league title was at stake it was just stress and worry, all week every week.

I probably can’t enjoy it if we are not competing.

And I definitely can’t if we are.

I agree, but there is a certain sadness in it being the best we can hope for (in terms of the league position).

It depends on how we do in the cups, if we're talking an 8th place finish but alongside an FA / league cup win and a conference league campaign where we find out there's some real talent in the academy, in my head that's a dream season and I'd bite anyone's hand off for it. Obviously it's all hypothetical and it's not like we can affect it.

Poch in this set up doesn't work but the choice to move away from what was working with him at the helm for the sake of being a more viable business venture will hurt forever but that's a different discussion and probably a different thread.

Completely. I'd much more of this view than @Baleforce view that brick football and top 4 is preferable.

So many fans have disconnected from teh club over the last 4 years and Spurs need to rebuild that. The consequences for the club are awful if they dont as fans will seep away.

Therefore an attacking manager is priority and if that means 6th/8th then so be it

we’ll see where the rubber hits the road on that, that’s basically what we were in the 90’s under Ossie, Francis then later Hoddle, pretty, mid table football.
